Daddy Carp Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 I went to the Fall Creek area this afternoon to fish & check out the lake in that area. I stopped in at Fall Creek Marina and then at Lilley's. I was lucky enough to meet 3 guys from the area who are definitely PROs. I enjoyed the meeting & conversation very much and truly apreciate them taking the time to pass along a few good pointers. I felt almost like a kid who went to watch a basketball game and ended up meeting the Globetrotters! lol I fished for about 3 hours below Fall Creek trolling & casting. Not too bad for my 1st in that area. I was throwing several lures & spinners I've not used for a longtime, along with a couple of stand-bys. Had some follows and 3 hook-ups. 1 for dinner and 2 went back for next time. Hits on a blue/grey, bluefox inline with white tail. The best hits & follows was on (yes Leonard, the same) a cross between a stickbait & a diver. This is a brown crawfish pattern that I least expected rainbows to dive on. For some reason, they do. Guess these didn't read the book....LOL For a Dummy to the area, not a bad day. Hope that as I get smarter on the fish up there I can catch more of them......My next re-learn is going to be when I blow about 10yrs. dust off my Fly stuff & tying bench. BEST OF LUCK TODAY & BETTER LUCK TOMORROW.............D.C.
Leonard Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 DC.. enjoyed putting a face to a name.. Thanks for the chat. sounds like a little slow day on the water, but fun.. Got a few tugs on the line. as for as size I didnt catch any monster either. Well nothing over maybe 12in.. but had fun.. I like watching them come up behide the lures just to see them chasing it.. Tip: If you see alot of fish following you lures, slow down a little. You'll see more takes that away.. Just my opinion.. Leonard http://www.taneycomonights.com
Thom Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 DC: I was one of those guys and it was tough that morning. I caught a few using a hares ear but went back in the afternoon before and switched to 1/100 oz green jig tied with red thread on the front. Fishing both sides from fall creek down and just out from the condos picked up about 20 small fish. I was just fishing it near the bottom about 6 foot under a small float. Bearly teasing the float so it would dimple the water two or three times then letting it sit for a few seconds and doing it again. I talked to another guy in the area and he was using a brown jig and doing much the same. He told me he had stuck around 30 and I saw him land and release several just down from me in the afternoon. Amazing what a difference it makes when you have the menu for what the fish are eating. Thursday and Friday it was much the same. I tied several small brown maribou jigs and could catch fish steadly throughout the day. The wind made it tough to stay in the fishing lanes but it was probally also helping me catch fish. Another big difference was that I switched from 6X to Orvis 7X and it improved the bite also when the water was still. The fish were mostly 12 and 13 inches with a few 14's. I just got home but I will post some pics later of some fish and on what flys were working. Thom Harvengt
Daddy Carp Posted November 17, 2007 Author Posted November 17, 2007 Hey Thom! No wonder I couldn't catch very many. They were all down there following you!!! LOL Ya, it looked like you were pretty busy & in the middle of a project when I was there. Enjoyed meeting you and will look forward to the time when we can share a few fish stories. I spent most of the time that day just playing around with some hard baits. Slow, but a few. If you would, carry a couple rocks with you when you go out fishing. From time to time, throw one in the water. That will scare a couple, of all those fish swarming around you, over to us....LOL. Have a good one! D.C.
