Buzz Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 Fished Hickory Creek on Dec.22 and Dec. 24 with good success. Saturday the 22nd was a bit cold and nasty with the rain, but I caught several nice Rainbows some in the 13 and 14 inch range. Monday Dec. 24th I did better with even more fish in the 13 and 14 inch range with one 19 inch kicker Rainbow. He came to a brown chenile grub. He was around some large rocks. I did not expect that fish today. Glad I had my net. Colors that caught fish were brown, cream, and black. Cream was the biggest producer. Kyle If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
chub minnow Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 We had great luck on the 24th as well. The biggest fish went about 16-17" and put up a great fight. I had the best luck on a #8 black ugly bugger, but they were biting on everything including salmon egg and bead head nymphs. My buddy was catching them on white plastic grubs as well. It seems that there are more large fish than ever. Hopefully more people are obeying the catch and release rules.
Buzz Posted January 12, 2008 Author Posted January 12, 2008 Thanks Phil for the new Hickory Creek forum. It will make it less confusing when posting news about this fine little piece of water that has a lot of potential. This last fall thru winter has been one of the best fishing in several years and it's nice to meet fellow local fisherman on these forums who have the same passion for fishing and conservation that I have. chub minnow Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 We fished Hickory this morning and things were pretty slow. The water is very high and, although they are there, the trout don't seem particularly hungry. We also went and checked out Capps creek - What a mess!
Buzz Posted January 15, 2008 Author Posted January 15, 2008 Yeah, Hickory has been getting a lot pressure. I was there the Sunday before last and had to use nearly everything I had to catch the ones that I did. It appears that the c&r seems to be working better this season, so they will become somewhat smarter, plus I'm sure with the higher water they have plenty of food flushed to them. I haven't been to Capp's since the storm, but I did see the picture of the mill dam. It's very unfortunate and will take a long time to do all of the repair work it needs. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
