Project Healing Waters Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 ...before the hearing date set for review of the permits, MO DNR expedited the permits for the CAFO chicken farm just above Roaring River State Park and allowed them to open. The place is now full of chickens and making chicken poop. The group from Cassville that is fighting (unsuccessfully so far) this huge chicken farm in the Roaring River watershed adjacent to the state park spoke to MTFA in Springfield last month and we received an update letter a few days ago. The group hired an environmental lawyer, who has brought in two expert witnesses for the appeal hearing. Nobody should really need more scientists to testify at this point, since DNR's own environmental impact report details what will happen to Roaring River and Table Rock Lake as a result of this CAFO. DNR just made it clear they didn't CARE. Now it goes to court. MTFA donated money to the legal fund. Anyone concerned about Roaring River SP and about the proliferation of CAFO's in MO under the current administration in Jeff City needs to get involved. We can all start by writing a check of whatever size we can afford to the legal fund. This won't be cheap. FYI, there is a MUCH more serious HOG CAFO that has also been approved and is under construction adjacent to another state park in south-central MO. And there is at least one more of a similarly egregious nature somewhere in the state that DNR also approved preliminary permits for. Even though the senate bill that would have given the CAFO lobby a nuclear option was defeated in 2007, it will be back in 2008. And the CAFO's are still being built and going into operation. So...in the end...the damage we hope to prevent is still happening anyway. http://www.projecthealingwaters.org
Daddy Carp Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Kool-aid!! Don't throw any more money into legal fighting of these things, put the money and time where it counts. So many well meaning people have been caught up in the liberals "side-tracking" and diversion tactic of arguing while they proceed it is unbeleivable. PUT THE MONEY INTO ELECTIONS AND RECALLS!! There are so many radical liberals who lied and cheated their way into offices of all levels riding on the kindness and non-combative nature of decent voters it is appaling. The time is NOW to get their butts out and silenced while we still have something left to reconstruct. Tomorrow will be too late. You can argue in court for years, RECALL and Ouster is imeadiate. Put the money to work on RECALL and OUSTER! That is the only answer. The liberal judges will let them tie it up in court until the things at risk are ruined permanantly and are no longer worth fighting for.
Brian Sloss Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 The large CAFO chicken and hog farms that threaten to do major damage to the Roaring river watershed is the fault of liberal activist judges? Now I've heard it all! It is far and away conservative politicians that would support such operations. This is happening under GOv. Blunt's watch and a Republican majority. But somehow it is the evil Democrats and liberals fault. If you are an outdoorsman, it should not matter your party affiliation on this one. An accident or a good flood starting upriver and coming down through Roaring River and into Table Rock Lake will prove that. Just notice the fish kill that will follow and I sure would not want to eat any fish that are left behind alive. I should just ignore political comments from now on, it will be a lot easier. What can we do and where can we find more info on this case? www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
Danoinark Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Absolutely! This is by all means a non partisan issue and all sides should get involved in the legal battle. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Daddy Carp Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Absolutely! This is by all means a non partisan issue and all sides should get involved in the legal battle. Dano Dano, I agree 100% If you read what I posted, you will see I made no references to political party of either side. If Brian or any one else has an agenda to promote the "liberal" movement and circumvent the constitution, laws and will of the people for special intrest, I am totally against them and will state that to them or anyone else. It is a well known fact that these type of excentric liberals exist in both the Democrat and Republican party. My post clearly states that instead of wasting time and money to fight them in a biased court that allowed it, use the resources to recall and elect so that we are not fighting the same battle over & over while the problem continues with a new name. Hence, don't cut a tree a limb or leaf at a time....Take it out at the trunk and remove the root system. Sorry ofense was taken, but I did not classify "liberal" to a certain party. That title was assumed by the reader. If that is the stance and basis of the party in opposition to Gov. Blunt, then I can understand his misinterpratation. If I mean, "democrat" Trust me, I will clearly state that or "libitarian" or "republican". Sorry for any misunderstanding as I certainly do not want this to be or become a politacal football. I want to see it corrected for the sake of the environment and the bad guys removed regardless of who, what or where they are. God Bless.......D.C.
Project Healing Waters Posted January 4, 2008 Author Posted January 4, 2008 The ag lobby in this state isn't a R or D thing...not a conservative or liberal thing, either. It is deeply embedded across the political spectrum and steamrolls most everything else it encounters. BUT...let us make no mistake that it is our so-called "conservative" Governor and HIS appointed Director of DNR who are pushing this sort of devil may care natural resources agenda. At a town hall meeting at Bass Pro Shop back in the middle of last year, the Governor's daddy (Congressman Blunt) stood side by side with the CEO of Mo Farm Bureau as he said regarding an environmental impact statement, "I don't worry about things that MIGHT happen. Let's build this thing and if there's a problem down the road we can address that then." They were talking about the proposed ethanol plant outside Rogersville that the Blunt family OWNS and the EIS that says the ground water in the area will be depleted in nothing flat if that plant goes into operation. While we're on the subject of clean water and CAFO's and other development along our streams and rivers, take a look at THIS. The fisheries biologists in MO and AR have been telling us some very unsettling things about preliminary water testing right here in our backyard that looks about like this report from Montana. http://troutunderground.com/2008/01/03/mon...ighbors-prozac/ http://www.projecthealingwaters.org
Daddy Carp Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 AGAIN, There should be no need to point out politicians or parties and tie them opinionatively to the situation. If it is to start action or build support for intended action against a known repeat offender, then go for it and start the recall ball. Until then, lets focus on what we can do to search these guys out, repair the land, streams and air at present and ways to better inform the public of future appointments and candidates that are not highly environmentaly conscious with acceptable/practical plans of action.

Thom Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Thank you Dano and Brian. I get so tired hearing about the liberal judges. If you check the facts. 7 of the 9 judges of the so called liberal supreme court were appointed to the supreme court were by conservative presidents. 80 + of the anti environmental decisions made upholding the kind of pollution issues we are discussing here were allowed by conservative judges. Read trout unlimited battles in the west on dams and clear cut logging. These are facts not rants. Now is a good time to pressure the folks in power before election time. The last time I checked it wasn't the "liberal side of the aisle" that weilded the stick for the last 4 years. Recalls? a waste of time. Never has worked and is very costly and slow process. Danoinark Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 When you recall a legislator, then its likely he will be replaced (appointed by a Governor or local legislative official or body) by someone who has similar political philosophy. In other words you may end up with one who is worse than the first. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
