sms_alum Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 I know it's early but has anyone been down to the potholes and gotten into any walleye yet?
Jason Essary Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Nope, not yet. just put down my bow to start fishing. Trav Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Heard through the grapevine that nothing but bows are being caught below powersite. If I am correct we still need some longer days before they start moving. I may be wrong though. "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
Members buckdandy Posted January 11, 2008 Members Posted January 11, 2008 My Dad, brother and I like to come down and fish Taneycomo in the day for trout and Powersite tailwater in the evenings for walleye. The last trip we made was in late Feb. or early March of last year, I think? I've killed some brain cells since then. In your wise and knowledgeable opinions, what time of year is the best time to hook onto some walleye? Have boat will travel. Thanks for all your input.
Tightline Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Buckd,I am no expert on Walleye, but traditionally,Jan,Feb,and March are the best for a big one if the water is flowing good from Powersite. They seem to come in waves in Jan and Feb,they will catch them good for several days and then nothing. So any kind of good report from Powersite I would head that way! March is a little more consistant in my opinion, they will be heading up the feeder creeks to spawn.Last year was a strange year. One of the local Walleye fishers who has boasted catching as many as 400 Wally keepers in a year caught 11 last year, and he is the best I know. Hopefully this year will be good! Good Luck.
Jason Essary Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Thanks tightline. I hate to hear that it was a bad year, but hearing that a pro had a hard time makes all my skunked trips for 'eyes seem not to bad. went 6 times and never hooked one that I could get up. caught a few 'bows and a couple nice buffalos. Let the buffalos go, then a friend told me hed take all I could catch. Never found them again. Anyone goes please keep up the updates. Its an 1 1/2 hour trip for me so Id like to know whats going on before I take off to be skunked again...lol Essary Construction - Honest work for honest price Custom Construction and Remodeling Call for free quotes (417)338-6418 http://essarycustomhomes.com/
Fishhand Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 A buddy and I went to the skunk/pot hole yesterday afternoon. One other boater was there but they took out around 3:00 p.m. and I didn't get a chance to speak with him. Water temperature was 47 degrees with no generation. Fished the pothole, shoal below Silver Creek, mouth of Swan and Barker hole with bobber/minnows, jig/minnows and stickbaits. Nary a bite. A few bank fishermen did not appear to catch anything either. Stayed 'til dark but the water never came on line. There weren't any bank or boat fishermen who showed up after dark.
