tippet7 Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 I was fishing on T Sunday morning above chute #2 and notice a guy doing the shuffle. No real big deal since it is "legal" bu tthen I notice him doing something else. He is shuffling, then dipping his net at his feet trying to "catch" a fish! He caught at least 2 nice size fish that I saw. Both times I witnessed his actions, he called his son (I am assuming it was his son) which seemed to be about 12-14 years old over to look at his catch. When I left I was driving home to Hollister and as I got to the scenic overlook there was a D.O.W. truck sitting there and I hope he was glassing the area. Did anyone else see him doing this? PS-Did pretty good cat catching a few trout myself using a chocolate zebra midge, then went to a stimulator with a gray RS2 dropper and they tore up the dropper. largest fish Sunday was a 17inch bow caught on the RS2. You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.

Members SGFChief Posted January 7, 2008 Members Posted January 7, 2008 Okay, I wasn't going to bring it up but since you went there, I thought I might throw my two cents in as well... I should have known better on Saturday afternoon but while my wife was shopping at the landing (and I just so happened to have my waders and rod in my jeep) so I ran down below the dam for a couple hours of fishing. Unfortunately it seemed that the best of January weather brought the worst out in our local "sportsman" as I saw no fewer than 4 individuals between #2 and the rebar doing the ol' shuffle your feet and dangle (by hand) your bait just downstream of your feet and one of them even had a stringer attached to his belt with a couple of fish on them to boot. Why bother even using a rod with this technique? But what really got to me and eventually caused me to pack it in and go home was a couple of individuals (2 guys-1 girl) fishing at #2--one I observed doing the shuffle earlier in the day but as the afternoon wore on they were up on the bank chugging what appeared to be "shots" of something. They way they carried on I don't think the shots were soft drinks. I will admit that I'm not a "tee-totaler" but I do believe that there is a time and a place for everything and Outlet #2 is not the place for drinking games. The gentleman with stringer very well could be keeping trout below the slot but what got to me was the hand line technique he was using to catch them. Maybe I'm just getting old and bitchy--maybe even a bit snooty that these unrefined individuals invaded one of my favorite fishing holes and made me feel uncomfortable enough to go do something else. Thank the Good Lord that cold weather will soon return and drive all the fair weather sportsman back to their TVs and lazyboys. I'm sure I wasn't the only one to view Saturday afternoons spectacle am I? Is it just me?

If they go on sporting trips and booze it up, what better place? They will only drown theirself when they fall. Lets weed them out before next deer season! with a 5 shot clip, they can take severl inosents with them! Lets help them keep their stupidity singular.
Trav Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 I see it every summer SGF. Thats why I dont fish the weekends. I plan all my yardwork around the idiots on the lake. Also, when I do see MDC on the lake (wich is rare), those "shot-takers" seem to be all they care about.I see the potential of trouble but chasing those idiots is a police matter not a fish and wildlife priority. They really need to stop playing cop and get back to being game wardans. There is more illegal fishing activity on the lake than there are partiers. Last I heard it isnt illegal to fish without a pole. As long as they have a line and a hook, it is still fishing. "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
