zander Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 My father's boat has two livewells and they are both painted black or are black due to the materials used to make them. Consequently when you have fish in there you can not see them at all when you are looking down in there. We were thinking of painting the walls and bottom of it white to be able to see things better but I am scared that the paint would leach chemicals to the fish causing them to croak. Does anyone know of anything we could safely paint that with which would not cause us to get lead poisoning or the fish to expire early?
jjtroutbum Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Acrylic/ clear plastic sheets cut to fit the bottom. Paint there undersides white and seal the edge with clear silicone. No need to worry about paint leaching or scratching if its not in contact with the water. hope that helps Jon Joy ___________ "A jerk at one end of the line is enough." unknown author The Second Amendment was written for hunting tyrants not ducks. taxidermist Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Tractor Supply has a lot of enaml paints that you can add a catalyst to. Once the cat sets the paint its very solid and will not leach enough to harm the fish. Sand the livewells and rinse with lacquer thinner, this will remove any wax, then wash with soapy water and rinse well, once its dry mix the enamal and cat, aloow to sit about 15 minutes to start the chemmmical cross linking oig the components. then paint, at 75F this stuff will set up rock hard in 24 hours.
