Fished Saturday with a cpl buddies.. we fished 8 to 4, from horn to horn and all had a good day.. speaking for my self.. I started of with small zebra midges #18-20 red and black.. landed 1-2.. small scuds. 1-2.. tried glow balls all sizes and colors No luck,, back to scuds.. wolly worms and buggers.. not much action with that... until I seen this young cpl,, they were hooking fish every cast almost.. seen the young lady doing very well and her and her Husband/boyfriend, were hooking up with dbls 4-5 times.. they got close to me and I said.. you seem to be doing very well.. do you mind me asking what your using?.. No problem.. both of us are using these white jigs they sell at the tackle shop.. looked like a 1/80th.. I said thx and couldn't tie one on fast enough.. and that saved my day.. I landed 5-6 on the jig the rest of the afternoon.. so to that young cpl.. If you read this web site.. I'll say thx again.. good day on the water as always.. I landed 10-11 for the day..

and I finally got that chance to try-out my new Chota wading boots- AWESOME! so comfortable, I wasn't near as fatigued as I would get with my old Gary Borger HEAVY butt boots.. and the new lampson lite speed reel with the new line was a real pleasure also.. but I will say.. I never thought a good pair of wading boots could make such a difference.. so to anyone that is looking to spend the extra $$.. put it in the boots.. you'll be glad you did....

King Fish,

How did you fish the jig?

That was a great report. I've been hearing/reading good things about the Chota boots. I'll take a closer look at these this spring or even sooner.

Thanks

Was just drifting the jig uner an indicator about 18" or so.. and it seemed they were either hitting hit right away on the fall or during line pick-up..

it's been a while since I've been the one that was nailing all the fish and someone asks me what i'm using.. I got all these scuds and midges- glow balls (etc) and funny that the thing you get away from is the thing you know best... fishing the jig... Has to be one of the BEST all around lures for all species.... and I didn't even think of it...

The Chota boots... I can't say enough...

Nice report King Fish! I think I saw that same couple last weekend and they were catching quite a few fish also. They were fishing just upstream from the dam when I saw them.

I fished all day in my Chota's as well and they are GREAT! My feet would have been bothering me in my BP boots if I fished all day.

We'll have to get together with some of the STL guys and all make a trip some day to fish together!

Winter season typically ends the second Monday of February. I'm down there almost every weekend, although I don't always fish. I'd love to meet up with some of you if you get a weekend setup.

I'm just outside of STL so I would be interested as well making a day trip to one of the streams in early Feb. I just read Monday Feb 11th is the last day for catch and release in the parks.

A jig under a float is generally the best all round fly you can use on trout water. In the parks 1/80 or smaller. Sculpin, olive, black and white usually work. An orange headed sculpin micro jig is deadly at Taney and Montauk and so are the white thread jigs. We have been using them for years.
