Howdy. I'm making my first trip to Norfork in mid-March. My goal is to catch some walleye around the Tecumseh area and upstream in the creek and NF river. Any tips about finding eyes around there? Also is there much striper action so far north? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks and happy fishin'.

The only walley I have caught at Tecumseh on purpose was on a clown roge after dark right above the bridge and below the shoal. If it were me i'd have some live bait handy, preferrably some creek slicks "chubs" whatever you want to call them. I hear that is the ticket.......but Im not an expert, i've only been down there a few times, mostly for white bass.

jackaroe,

As of right now we will need more water coming through the NFOW and Bryant for the fish to make it up them very far at all.

I am from Gainesville and fish that water hard during the White Bass runs. I am usually throwing a fly but still hook up with walleye every once in a while. I would probably agree with Jeremy, most of the people that are consistant in catching the walleye in that area are fishing bait....but if the fish do get on a rogue bite it can get stupid pretty

quick! :)

Thanks for all your replies.

So, it sounds like unless we get some more water, heading down further into the lake would be a better bet? Also sounds like live bait is the way to go, and I've got some Rogues I'm dying to try out.

The FLW tour is there from 3/5-3/8. I may be getting there right after it, thanks for the info.

Thanks Again

Hey Jackaroe,

I went to Tecumseh on Sunday morning, 01/27. Didn't fish it 'cause the water was too low and very clear. Instead, I went down to Udall and paddled down to the next boat ramp, Liner Creek I think (a couple miles, give or take, below Tecumseh bridge)...Water clarity had to be near 20'. And cold, actually broke through ice at Liner Creek. Caught two kentuckies on a white 1/8 oz. jig and one kentucky on a char deep diving crankbait. Three bank/ bait fishermen I saw at Liner Creek didn't catch squat, but, one guy said he caught five walleye last week. Half a dozen boats out. Saw one boat catch one kentucky. I didn't see any balls of shad. Looked like everyone had a slow day with the bluebird sky and no wind to speak of.

Thanks for the report Jim!

Glad to hear you were able to get out on the water, a few kentuckies to boot. I went down to the St. Francis this weekend, and my favorite fishing hole was frozen solid. Guess I should have known.

I've been looking at that area - Liner Creek and Fork Cove - as a backup, and it sounds like I may have to start there unless we get some rain.

Quick question: where is a good place to get bait, etc if your coming to Norfork from the North?

Thanks again for the report, best of luck on your next trip.

I'm not sure where to get bait coming from the North. I came from Branson...I fished the hole right below the confluence of the NFOW and Bryant Creek one year back in the 1990's. I was fishing minnows and a kid about 30' up the bank from me was fishing with slicks. He had four nice walleye on his stringer and I didn't get a bite. I'm not sure if the fish were staged in the hole different or if I had the wrong bait. I spoke with him and we were fishing basically the same way, but those walleye were keyed in on those slicks. I found it kind of interesting.
