Ladies and Gents,

I am lucky enough to be heading to NZ for 3 months. I will be leaving the end of Feb returning Mid May. I am paking the backpack with flyrod, tent, and clothes...will figure out the rest when I get there, but would appreciate any tips I can get on flyfishing for trout while there.

I have not planned to hire a guide at this time (not totally against it though)as I would like to go it solo as travel schedule permits. Also not sure yet of accessability of waters or if some parts are private waters. I read the post on "timsfly"'s trip the end of '07 and found it helpful...just always looking for more info!

This will be my first trip to NZ so I am in need of any and all info I can get!

Thank you in advance,

Morgan F.

My old boss at the USDA went on a hunting/flyfishing trip to New Zealand and was told by a guide "Don't step on any brown moss-covered rocks." This was because it might be a kiwi bird. He stepped on a green moss covered rock though and fell down hurting his back pretty badly. Anytime you are travelling outside the US for an extended period of time, it is a good idea to have international medical insurance. You want to remember the trip for the good times, but sometimes things happen and like the scouts say "Be prepared."

Zander,

Oh so right you are. Luckily my Aunt is in the insurance biz...she covers my backside and worries enough for the both of us!! Ha

I'll try to remember the "Brown Moss" rule!!

BTW, I love the paintings...if I had a place (due to move) to put them I would have ordered one..or all three!

Morgan; talk to Tim at Tim's Fly Shop near Roaring River. He's made a few trips to NZ, and can probably give you a bunch of tips.

Steve,

Tim has actually sent me some really good info today...very good contact for all kinds of info! Trying to make it down there this weekend for some fishing and meet Tim...the laundry list is long though, so we'll see!

Thanks,

Morgan F.
