jjtroutbum Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 gas prices have turned a 40 doller trip into a 80 dollar trip. So I was thinkin see if i can find a couple of fishermen/women that might want to split thos expenses. I think if this could happen we would need to meet up prior to the trip cus I'm not putting a complete stranger or strangers in my ride as I think most reasonable people will understand. I plan on driving/riding down regardless, havent missed one in fifteen years. If the fishing good like to stay late. if the weather is bad sometimes the fishing is even better. ................now down to the basics I'm in High Ridge, MO 15min from downtown St. Louis My ride is a clean 95 ford coversion van comfy+ contact me here or at jjoystl@yahoo.com ps this is not a type of post that is seen very often so i would like to have some feed back positive or negitive. This is hopefully a way to meet a few good troutbums and save us all some cash Jon Joy ___________ "A jerk at one end of the line is enough." unknown author The Second Amendment was written for hunting tyrants not ducks. Members roundtrout Posted February 16, 2006 Members Posted February 16, 2006 JJ, I know what you mean. The price of gas already has me thinking about switching jobs and moving closer to the fishing holes! Your offer is a nice gesture and perhaps somebody in the St. Louis area will take you up on it. For my part, I'm all the way across the state and I doubt you'd want to take that route to pick me up on the way. As far as feedback, I think its a good idea. The problem I foresee is people wanting to leave at different times according to different committments. That, I think, is the real advantage of driving yourself. You can get there when you want and you can leave when you want. Besides, if an emergency crops up, the person affected can up and leave without disturbing the rest of the group. Its going to be interesting to see how these prices affect family vacations and tourism. I know I'll be spending more time closer to home as a result, though it may also mean that I spend longer vacations than I would have otherwise. That is, I'll likely take fewer, but longer trips to help off-set the total cost. I'm already re-thinking what used to be long weekend get-aways! Well, there's two cents for you! Have fun on opening weekend (its actually about the only one I purposely avoid - sorry). Closing day is another matter altogether! Bob Bob
shawncat Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 JJtroutbum I think you have a good idea trying to carpool.I already have plans to go to Meramac.I too live in Jefferson Co.so maybe some other time. With a handle like troutbum im sure you will be going again soon.
jjtroutbum Posted February 23, 2006 Author Posted February 23, 2006 Thanks for the support of my idea, but I havent had any takes, Tho so thought I might extend the trip to include a couple days at Tanneycomo, maybe some fishin in the Jamse river also. A buddy that I've known forever lives on Tablerock and is meeting me a Bennett opening morning, might just go back to his place and do some dummin through the weekend....livin up to the name JJ Jon Joy ___________ "A jerk at one end of the line is enough." unknown author The Second Amendment was written for hunting tyrants not ducks.
