CaptainT16 Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 Well, the opening of the season is quickly approaching us. Being never fished there, I just wondered how busy it is at RR on opening day? Just wondered if it was as busy as Bennett Springs, being a trout park I am sure it is. Just wondered, would like to make a trip down there sometime after opening week or so, but just wondered crowd wise how busy it does get down there. Thanks again! bobber Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 can you say shoulder to shoulder!!!! the good part is they have some pretty large fish the first few days <*)))))))>< * AMERICAN CANOE ASSOCIATION CERTIFIED CANOE, and SWIFT WATER RESCUE INSTRUCTOR.*
Roaring River Veteran Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 captain, RR is busy on opening day but it isn't as busy as bennett. I have only been to bennett once and it was packed. I have seen several record opening days at RR and I don't think RR is really that bad. Opening being on a Wednesday this year should keep the crowds at bay. Fridays and Saturdays are usually the real crowd drawers. The extended forcast is calling for partly cloudy with highs in the 40's and lows in the 30's, and it is always cooler in the bottom of that hollar so dress warm if you come down. Good luck and Good fishing RRV Good luck and Good fishing RRV
motroutbum Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 thats what they always say. keeping the crowds at bay my foot. if you have any sense stay away on opening day!! There are two types of people. Those who dream dreams and wish, then there are the do'ers. I am a do'er!
Roaring River Veteran Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 I haven't missed one in 22 years I'm not about to start now. 1 at bennett and 21 at RR It is all part of the experience. I wouldn't miss it for love nor money,,,,,, okay maybe a large sum of money. Good luck and Good fishing RRV Good luck and Good fishing RRV
CaptainT16 Posted February 10, 2006 Author Posted February 10, 2006 Yeah, I think I will avoid the opening day rush. I can't even imagine, although I would like to experience it sometime. I can only imagine what it must be like in the trout parks opening day! Steve Smith Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 If you wait until after lunch to fish, the crowd will thin greatly in Roaring River park. All the tourist have either froze or gave up. If you're looking for a lunker, fish Zone 1 ___________________________ AKA Flysmith - Cassville MO
timsfly Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 This was opening day last year at 6:30 a.m. This will be a wed. opener so it won't be any worse than this on the 1st. There are a lot of big 5-10 lb fish in the river, the hatchery is going to stock 100 more in the 3-5 pound. It should be good fishing, crowded but good, most of the crowds will be in the zone 1 area. If you're looking for a lunker, fish Zone 1 That is great advice…but take a cup of coffee and go down for the opening whistle just to watch….it is very entertaining.
Brian K. Shaffer Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 One year at R/R - I saw a very young angler have a nice fish on.. following the first few moments after the whistle.. so this young angler has a good fish.. and almost in succession 8 other anglers threw over his line. He was immediately aware of this and knew what was about to happen, as his line was getting all wrapped up and now being pulled in a different direction.. so finally his line breaks.. now he is left with nothing. The other anglers just kept on fishing like nothing even happened. I stepped back out of the way and got in my truck slowly and drove far, far away.
