Danoinark Posted February 15, 2006 Author Posted February 15, 2006 Thanks Wayne, I just can never remember the highway numbers That's what I get for being a geezer. Dan Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Don Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 I was there on the last day of C&R as well from 11:00-4:00. Caught 20 fish. Alot of large fish 15-16 in. Did well with gray and tan scuds off the bottom. Fished all pools from wading area to first road above it. Lost some big ones. First was aprox 5 lbs. Ran out of gray scuds and went one hour with only one fish from an olive wooly bugger. Then at 3:30 I caught 3 off of an olive scud. Then I hooked a fish that had his way with me. He swam wherever he wanted and my little 4 weight had no influence on him at all. He finally broke me off in some rocks at the edge of the pool. I wish I could have even caught a glimpse of him. I found a similar olive scud and the horn blew before I tied it on. Exciting C&R season finale. Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
Danoinark Posted February 16, 2006 Author Posted February 16, 2006 I didn't fish a scud that day at all. From Don's report looks like I should have. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Don Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 Yea Dano, I use scuds when ever I can. Surprisingly RR. Taney scuds the day before didn't produce at RR but other varieties did. I apparently saw Steve at Tim's that day. He was the guy that said he had success on ginger baby buggers and was buying material. I had no luck on the ginger buggers but I may be failing at bugger presentation. I talked to many fisherman that day between the road and wading area. I was all camo with brown chest pak. Certain scuds were hot. First time I fished them without an indicator. Used 6x tippet 8 ft long with # 6 sinker 1 foot up. Used amnesia loop with 1/2 orange sticky indicator on the loop as my indicator. Unusual setup for the 1st time but was successful. Good Fishin' Don Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
Steve Smith Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 Dan was right on his directions. The fly only C&R trophy zone starts just below the cleaning station. There was a sign posted, but I don't remember seeing it when I fished that section. The trophy area ends at the highway F bridge and the catch and keep fly only zone starts there all the way to the old dam. That was me Don with the all ginger woolies at Tims. I only had two and lost them pretty quickly so I had to make a run. I was fishing them sloooow under an indicator just drifting with what current was available. That was a first for me with an indicator, and the fish just liked it worked that way. Normally, I wouldn't use an indicator with a woolie, but too lazy to take it off when I switched from a San Juan pattern. First cast I just tossed out about five feet and the indicaator disappeared. Strange, but fun. ___________________________ AKA Flysmith - Cassville MO
Danoinark Posted February 17, 2006 Author Posted February 17, 2006 Steve...that's it Highway F, I never can remember that. A geezer moment no doubt. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Steve Smith Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Mo Bass. Just noticed your question on snagging with cranks. In Zone 1 of Roaring River, any artificial lure can be used including crank baits, jerk baits, or anything else. No law against snagging them either. I did watch two game wardens spy a fellow throwing a crank bait snagging every one he caught last year on opening day. They wrote him up all right, but not for snagging. He had four stringers staged up and down the river… all over limit! I haven’t seen him back yet. ___________________________ AKA Flysmith - Cassville MO
