Soft Hackles

Dano, You said you fished the soft hackle a lot. I'm trying to tie some up for my fly box. What sizes and colors do you find to be most productive? Still looking for a time we can meet and do some fishing at Taney. Thanks for the info.

I primarily fish a Lt Olive, Pumpkin, Red, Black, Orange and Brown. I mostly tie them in 16 and 18's.

Those colors and sizes seem the most effective for me at Taney. You just let me know when you are coming down and I will sure meet up with you. Also here is a neat way to tie on soft hackle in those smaller sizes. Its called a distribution wrap.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to try the distrubution wrap, it looks a lot easier than the method I've been using. I've already tied some yellow, olive and black. Most have been in the 16 size but a few were tied on an 18. I'll get back to work at the tying desk. I'll let you know for when we plan on our next trip.
