CaptainJoe Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Finished the installation of the Lowrance LSS Transducer on my boat transom. Actually, I selected the Jackplate model. This bracket is solid medal and should protect my transducer. You can see in the photos that the 2D Skimmer Transducer is mounted within 12" of the LSS Transducer for excellent DownScan performance. Gary Lange Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 That looks like a good sturdy mount and a nice installation. Respect your Environment and others right to use it!
Bill Babler Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Joe, Looks great. One question? Buddy of mine has a Lowrance deal, and they told him not to mount on the Jack Plate. Have also heard this about the Hbird mounts. need to be on the transom step, under the boat. Lowrance told the buddy, way to much vibration on the jackplate mounts. Told him even the 4 strokes vibrate to much for a jackplace mount, at idle speed. Wonder where Don H. has his Hbird mounts? Bet its not on the Jackplate, but don't know. On the other hand, really hope this works out as it is a very clean look. Maybe some day when I move up I'll be fortunate enough to get one, and if the Jackplate mount works I'll go with that super look. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com

Just mounted a new one on my transom, now I can run the unit on the front or back instead of forking out another 2500.00 dollars for another unit.. Have found I like it more on the back during the spring into Early Summer then move it up front for the deep water season.. I know cheap way out but it works for me.. Transom mount helps you to be level and above the out flow of water from your boat and does seem to work the best. But I do know alot of guys have switched from the Jackplate Mount to a new thru the hull unit on Humminbird right up in the step up on these bass boats, they tell me it does work much better and even add's High Speed SI.. The Vibration issue is there on the jackplate models but not that big of an issues besides having to adjust the transducer or re-tighten back into place alot.. Biggest help for the Humminbird guys on a jackplate mount is to protect from stumps so they place it up inside of the jackplate.. Capt. Joe my question is the first few pictures shows the transducer at an angler or not level.. Or does it level out in the water off the trailer? Very good install nice and clean!! Like your mount as well does it have a metal protector for the top of the transducer, for say if you slide off a tree of the bottom of the boat and it hits the bottom of the jack plate or right on the transducer? Looking for a new one for my boat as well.. Will drop you an email today about going to see Mr. B talk, seeing if I can get away, worth the time to go here him speak! Maybe if we show up we can get a White River Lodge Hat? Good Fishing Don Capt. CaptainJoe Posted February 12, 2010 Author Posted February 12, 2010 Bill/Don, The jackplate installation is perfect. It is away from the transom and all of the boat steps. It has a clear view of the bottom and side to side. Yes, Don, on the trailer, it looks a little off, but it is not. When in the water, it is level. The bracket conforms to the pitch of the transom, which levels the transducer. I have not heard of jackplate vibrations or problems. Mine has been on the jackplate for quite awhile and I have had no problems. Most of the pictures that I posted on this forum are from the transducer on the jackplate. The "fish" pictures were taken using the unit on my bow and the transducers are mounted on my trolling motor. I just switched brackets from the one that came from Lowrance to the Transducer Shield & Saver (TS&S) bracket. The TS&S bracket is much better and protects the transducer where the Lowrance bracket did not. As you can see in the pictures, the bracket is held to the jackplate with three bolts. They do not come loose and there is no adjustment. There are neither problems with this mount nor its location. The StructureScan and DownScan works up to 30mph. Of course, the optimium speed is 10mph or less. I do not like shoot thru the hull transducers. I have one in my boat hooked up to a transducer switch. The other connection goes to the 2D Skimmer transducer that you can see in the pictures. I can switch back and forth between the two and I can personally attest to the fact that you lose signal strength, clarity, and functionality with the shoot thru the hull transducer. The only thing it is good for is keeping in contact with the bottom and providing depth when travelling at high speed. Bill Babler Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Great, If I get one I'm going with the same mount as it just looks great. Since my 37 is working perfectly, I'm going to ride it till it drops. There will in fact be some give-aways. Hat's maybe, but might not hold my breath on any Megabusters. BUT, you just never know. Talking maybe like it might be in the mid-40's tomorrow, with a little breeze. Are you boys getting the twitch? http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com

I had two 25's, but sold them and bought the HDS-8 and HDS-10. Hats....great. Don and I are planning to attend. I am getting the twitch. It as been awhile since I was on the lake. Have a tournament on Stockton on the 20th, but don't know if it will be a on the water or through the ice. Members Doug Vahrenberg Posted February 16, 2010 Members Posted February 16, 2010 Don...I've running the Transducer Shield and Saver for a couple years already. Scap custom builds mounts and knows his Side Imaging he runs a 997c and when he builds the mounts they have the correct horizontal aperture already built in. I love his Trolling Motor mount very durable and protects your investments. The thru hull has been very well proven too...
