  1. After spending the last two months building my own canoe, yesterday's weather was the perfect time to get it on the water for the first time. Goggle-eye were biting like crazy and I saw a lot more fish that I did just two weeks ago while wading. Everything I caught came off an Eakin's jig with a Yum, craw-papi on the rear - peanut butter & jelly colors. The canoe is so stinking light the smallmouth pulled me all over the pool I was setup in. For those interested...I took lots of photos of the boatbuilding process, and you can check them out if you CLICK HERE.
  2. I like what I have read so far with this, so I am going to commit at least to the first meeting and see what happens from there. I too am in the Joplin/Neosho are...well kinda but work carries me well into the Springfield area.
  3. A friend just called me and said he lost a Scientific Anglers fly box at Hickory on Thursday 02.25.2010. He was fishing up and downstream from the low water bridge. Box is full of flies with tungsten beeds. He is offering a reward. If anyone has found it you can contact Jason - jasong45@yahoo.com or message me on here. Hopefully it turns up, lots of money and time spent tying flies.
  4. I'd like to help with this. Stream team is a great thing.
  5. went out Sunday as well, and saw the trout and perch cleaned there. Guy with his kids using corn at the bridge. Not a great day for me either. Caught a few but nothing to brag about. Fished from the bridge on Wallaby down to Shoal.
  6. Fished Capps with a friend from work today who had never been. Started at the bridge on Wallaby and waded upstream to the park. Was a decent day only saw 2 other guys out there. One guy started at the park and came downstream, he said he hadn't caught anything but creek chubs. I caught a small brown 200 yards up from the bridge. Friend caught 3 browns out of the same hole using scuds. I think we ended up with 6 browns and 2 rainbows between the two of us and a lot of chubs.
  7. I have heard from a lot of folks that its a dump. I dunno.... just started fishing there this winter because of the proximity to the house and I drive past twice a day to and from work. I probably won't fish it once the weather makes a change. I have heard there are lots of kids swimming and such in the summer.
  8. Hit up Hickory for an hour on my way home from work yesterday evening. Decided I didnt feel like working too hard so I just stayed at the low water bridge and close by. Nothing spectacular but I did pull out a decent little smallie right there.
  9. Made my first trip to Capps this afternoon, kind of a prescouting trup to make sure I can outfish another guy I'm going with on Thursday Have to say this is a neat little place on the map. Walked in from the upper parking lot and fished about halfway to the bridge. Cold, Cold Cold....can't wait for Thursday. One fish - but I'll consider it a victory for the first trip.
  10. Ollie I've never fished Capps, but a friend wants to go out there this week. tell me more about "Olliefest"
  11. Got out there Friday afternoon from 3 till dark again. A better day...caught fish all on 1/32 jigs. Wooly bugger, leech pattern, and brown marabou jigs. Waded from low water bridge to 86. Pictures are from a cell phone so they arent the greatest, but they work.
  12. Buzz I had an inkling after reading this thread that might have been you. This is my first winter in this area, and Hickory is easy to hit up to and from work in Joplin. After it warms up I'll be on Indian and Elk a lot, if I can't get to some big water.
  13. workin hard all week puts the beer on the table

  14. I was out there Sunday afternoon as well 2-dark. One of the spinning guys. Not much luck with the rainbows until 30 minutes before dark, quick water near cut banks. Did have all kinds of chubs and goggle-eye, which keeps it enjoyable. Came across Ozark Anglers years ago - love the design now with all the other waters forums on here.
