  1. No one else has had this problem?
  2. Use a treble. Before you tie the hook on, thread the eye/shank through the middle of the liver chunk, then tie the hook on and hook the liver. The only place it can go, if anywhere, is up the line, but it won't. Also, check these out: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_58187____SearchResults You can cram little liver chunks inside the red netting and it'll keep it in there. Those work awesome with dough bait but work with meat too.
  3. Ok, I tried to enter GPS coordinates from the MDC site for fish attractors. The website provides Latitude (##.########), Longitude (-##.########), UTM NAD83 Zone15 Y coordinate (#######.########), and UTM NAD83 Zone15 X coordinate (######.########). My Humminbird graph, however, when you go to enter a waypoint and enter the gps coordinates, it only allows for latitude (##˚##.###), and longitude (##˚##.###). I have no idea how to transfer from one version to the other. I was hoping to go fishing today and hit these brushpiles but I have no idea how to enter them in. Please help!
  4. Trav, He said he wonders what he USES, not what he buys. I am fairly certain KVD uses one of the SI/DI units available, and doesn't he wear a Humminbird logo? So maybe an 1197? To be honest, he probably has a custom built machine with features that none of us even have access to, just like golfers and other athletes have equipment specially made for them.
  5. Guess that horse still has a little fight in him...
  6. There is Rrabtree Cove, Masters, High point, and Aldrich on the east side. Crabree Cove is the nicest to me, but there is a $3 a day fee with a little drop box. High Point and Aldrich will put you closest to the river. All are pretty good put-ins in my opinion.
  7. Remember the scene in "A Few Good Men" where Jack Nicholson is on the witness stand and goes postal on the prosecutor "Tom Cruise" and completely puts him in his place? I feel like I just read such a moment. You can't handle the truth!!! Interesting tidbit Trav. Enjoyed it.
  8. What Straw Hat said...
  9. Will do.
  10. Put me on some of those fish tomorrow!
  11. I wanted to thank everyone on here for your advice on getting a new fish finder. I ended up with a Humminbird 587ci combo. I can't wait to install it and give it a try. If any of you are bored and want to go out for a little bit and teach me how to use this thing, holler at me. I'm sure I can figure it out though. Also, tomorrow will be my first fly-fishing adventure...heading down to the eleven point for the day with a guy. Hopefully we can catch a few...I'm sure I'll get hooked and end up with a new expensive hobby, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
  12. The Quantum KVD signature series reel is 89.99 i think, and is a great reel for the money.
  13. So I saw the map of fish attractors online. Are those usually pretty productive for you guys? If so, is there any way to get those points onto a gps or would you have to go around to each and enter it on the gps?
  14. And, while we're on the topic of brush piles, I have heard about green signs that tell you where brush piles are, but I'm not sure I've ever seen one. Maybe I'm not paying attention. Are they the signs on points that have a letter and a number, or are those different?
  15. Nice trav...you provide lunch, I'll buy the gas, and we'll make a day of it haha. Good thing for Marty, I may be in the market for a day of guided fishing. If I read that message right, if you hire him he gives you a Chevy and a Happy Meal. Make mine with nuggets. By the way Marty, Your FREE fishing reports are gold, and I know I am one of many who appreciate them. Just givin you a hard time about the MDC brush piles.
  16. So were you OFFERING to share information on the new brush piles, or just bragging?
  17. I have heard a lot of people down-talk the flippin switch feature found on Quantum BC reels. I just wanted to say to anyone out there considering a quantum that the flippin switch is awesome. I would estimate that mine is on about 80% of the time on my reel. For flippin and pitchin, it makes the job a lot simpler.
  18. Surprised noone has mention Bass Pro XPS Fluoro. KVD uses it, and it seems to be treating him well.
  19. I am planning a fishing trip for this spring with my dad and a friend of his from the military, who is like an uncle to me. My dad's friend has been battling an inoperable brain tumor for the last 5 years. This month, the doctors found that the tumor has grown a cm. and he has to undergo a new round of radiation. I ask that you pray that he will be well enough this may to attend a day of fishing with us, as this will likely be his last fishing season. I know it will mean a lot to him, my dad, and myself. Thanks.
  20. I have a 10/22 I'm willing to part with, still interested?
  21. 350 is a little more than I want to spend, But I would prefer to have gps capability. The eagle cuda 350S looks nice.
  22. Yeah I need to break down and get one, just don't know what to get.
  23. Well I went out today, didn't have any luck. Launched around noon and had to break through some thin Ice to reach the main body, most of the ice was clear by 5. Fished some points and steep bluffs...suspending crankbaits, shaky worm, jig/pig, lipless crank, gulp minnow swimbait, deep diving crank, slow-rolled spinnerbait...the works. Sure would be nice to have a fishfinder so I could have an idea of how deep i am and what's going on down there. Regardless, it was good for my mind to be able to get out and enjoy the lake for a few hours. The lake sure is beautiful. I did see some small shad fluttering near the surface (assuming this is "the shad kill" I've read about?) and some birds dive-bombing the surface for something. Empty handed but still had a great day. Boat still leaks a little but not as bad as before I patched a small gash. If anyone needs a fishing partner for a day for some companionship this spring, holler at me.
  24. Good to know, thanks for the heads up.
