  1. Thanks for getting it back up, I'm finally connected! Unfortunately I can't see a thing. I don't remember, did you take the light of the camera? Anyways, thanks for gettin it back online. I'll try again in the morning. Rob
  2. How was the fishing during your little "island getaway"? Rob
  3. I've heard how the lights attract the baitfish, and therefore improve fishing, but I am curious what types of lights to use. I have a floating surface light, but I was wondering about submersible lights. What color should they be, how much should I pay, that kind of thing. Or should I just put a glo-stick on a string with a weight and drop that in? Really curious about this night-fishing. Don't want to go out underequipped or underinformed. Rob
  4. I'm not at work, and a bad connection would explain the fact that I haven't been able to view it after 3days of trying. Anyways, is the LakeCam page supposed to just have those 2 pictures on it (One of a dock; the other black/blue stipes). If not, then I think I might have to play with my settings for a while. Thanks for the info. Rob
  5. Whenever I fish for bass at night, its some form of black, rubber-skirted lure. Jig, spinnerbait, buzzbait. Though the buzzbaits are the most fun, I think that jigs would work the best if the fish are shut down from the heat. Rob
  6. thanks Rob
  7. (Sound of Ticking Clock) After five straight minutes, I decide to get lunch, come back and try again. Hopefully it will work then. Rob
  8. There are 1000+ members on this site, and only 50 or so can view the cam at a time, correct? I've been trying for a few days, and still can't get it to work. I have Windows media player 10, Internet Explorer, and a DSL connection. I'm wondering what else I can do to get this to work. Rob
  9. Well, congrats to her. Wonder if the posted pic will be more of a surprise that the fish. Rob
  10. Does anyone do much walleye fishing on Lake of the Ozarks? I'm headed down there in a few weeks, and was wondering if anyone has any advice on how to catch some of these toothy critters. Thanks for reading. Rob P.S.- I'm just downlake from the Hurricane deck bridge (MM32 or so), and I won't be able to travel far due to gas prices/weekend boat traffic.
  11. Fishing preferred, trout fishing not required. I've heard of Devil's Backbone and Paddy Creek. I didn't know that the Devil's Backbone ran along the North Fork. Is the Big Piney just a warmwater stream (just fine), or is it a trout stream like the Little Piney (even better!) I've heard some really good things about Paddy Creek, but its just a bit toofar for my school's backpacking club to go for on a weekend outing. Are there any main trails that run along the river @ Devil's backbone? That sounds like a really good place if I can get some trout fishing in while hiking. Thanks for the info. Rob
  12. For those who take excessive amounts of large fish by noodling- may snapping turtle numbers soar. Rob
  13. I fish around mile marker 32, and was wondering how the walleye fishing was up in that area (hurricane deck bridge). I know of a long point that gets down to about 30ft of water before falling off into 100ft of water. All gravel. Should I just bounce larger minnows off the bottom early in the morning or troll crawler harnesses or crankbaits? I've never caught one, but I really want to, if only to prove to my dad that they do exist in that lake. Any advice on how to get them this time of year? Rob
  14. I once was crappie fishing and had a bass hit the crappie on the end of my line. Didn't land him, but was probably about 7-8lbs. Also caught a bass with a small bluegill stuck sideways in its mouth. I released them separately. Bass swam away. Bluegill sank. Guess that means one less snake. I don't mind them, so long as they stay away from me. Rob
  15. I've got a question, is it illegal to camp at Tan Vat? I was down there on the 4th and saw some "sleeping beauties" with their trash and clothes scattered everywhere. No agents, but plenty of storm clouds. Got a bit wet on the way back to the car. I heard it mentioned about the smallmouth being kept and then thrown away. Real shame. I think it actually takes closer to 7 years for them to reach that length. Rob BTW, does anyone have any good suggestions for backpacking areas? Minimum of 1/2 mile to a good campsite, max of around 5. I like the seclusion of it all, but don't want to die in getting there (plus there are some real whinebags that I go with). If anyone is willing to divulge in there favorite "pack in" area, feel free. If not, I respect you wanting to keep your "secret spot" a secret.
  16. James, I am of similar age and I fish near the Hurricane deck Bridge, up the Osage from the four corners. I really don't bass fish, but last summer I caught a 6lb fish while going after crappie. If you are interested in crappie, just use a 1/8 oz bright colored jighead. Hook a medium sized minnow through the eyes, drop down to 12-20ft (don't bother if the bottom isn't at least 10), and start moving it up and down. The only thing I am yet to catch this way is a walleye, but I'm hoping to do that this summer. Remember, the fish like the shade more than you do, and light line (4lb) helps. Rob
  17. I think we should just start out own association: hold dinners @ $25-$45 dollars/plate and raise up money to buy a spring branch somewhere that is C&R only (or some form of size/# restriction), but only until funding for a hatchery is raised. Eventually expand with the funding raised from the spring branch and donate money to parks and other places. If anyone thinks that I am a young idiot who is full of $^&*, please speak now. Rob
  18. It does get too easy after a while. After a while, the fly-rod became a bit too easy fpr me(40+ fish a day, fishing 4-5 hrs a day). The last trip that I went on, my friend and I mainly fished outside of the park (Montauk). We only went into the park midday when the river fish headed really deep. But, i think my buzzer days are over for now, just because those wild(er) browns look so good. That and you can fish as late as you want. Rob
  19. sounds good Rob
  20. Trotlines, like limb lines, are fun and effective. I hate to think of them getting banned because of a few idiots not checking them (and killing big fish and turtles). I live by the rules: "If you set it, run it the next day, early in the morning. That way you won't have as many dead things or baitless hooks." Rob
  21. From the list: Montauk/Upper Current (favorite) or Lake of the Ozarks (most fished in MO). "Other" would be small farm ponds(most fished anywhere) and the lower Kaskaskia/Mississippi. Though I prefer trout when I can fish for them, catfish or crappie are just a lot of fun to go after (plus they taste the best! ) Rob
  22. New member from the St. Louis area, only slightly farther south and east. Sitting here in Waterloo, Il, with nothing better to do today than sit at the computer. If I'm not sleeping or eating, I'm either fishing or thinking about fishing. Any kind imaginable. From big river catfish to small pond bluegill to cold water trout. If it swims in the area, I've probably caught it. I'm 16, but known for my knowledge regarding fish and fishing techniques to all of my classmates. I'm a fairly active member on the OC forum, and am hoping this place is as good or better. Rob P.S.- Feel free to insult me as much as you like, I really don't care.
