  1. Nice pictures. I can't believe you already have the new Winston just laying there in the mud. LOL later, jrbhc8
  2. I guess I will chime in. If I get a chance to go, I won't be fishing for trout, I'll be fishing for locals. I'll be the guy with the snagging rod and treble hook tangling up all who have crowded me with my flyrod this past season. They know who they are. LOL jrbhc8
  3. We will see how the weather turns out for me. I might go out to the farm or something though and look for sheds and pattern some deer if we get a snow. I know, bow season is now over and I'm thinking about hunting now!! jrbhc8
  4. I have found that (length X Girth X Girth)/(800) gives a very close approimation. All of the online calculators that I have tried are all off. Just my expierience. According to my method it comes out to be 15.25 lbs. Nice fish, sucks to not have a camera to snap a pic on a fish like that. I'll bet that never happens again. LOL jrbhc8
  5. That photographer sure knows what he's doing. LOL The picture turned out better than I expected. Nice fish, hopefully I can find some more time to go after them again before school starts back up. jrbhc8
  6. Went fishing down at the springs on Friday and Sunday. Friday, I did decent catching a few rainbows, and managing to hook a few lunkers. Although it was one of those days where I just could not hook a fish, which was dissapointing. I did manage to land about a 4-5lb rainbow.(see pic) Sunday, CenterPunch and I went down to do some damage. Before the bell rang, CenterPunch spotted me a fish and let me go after it. Fifteen minutes later, and a little chasing up stream I had it hooked and was fighting. CenterPunch quit fishing to help me get the rainbow in. I fought it for another ten minutes as we tried to land it again and again. Then the fish took a big run, and gave a few good shakes and I felt as he got off the line. Luckily for me CenterPunch was right there when the fish got off, and saved the day with one of the best net jobs that I have ever seen. I'm not sure that anyone else could have pulled that off. It ended up measuring 24 inches, with a 16 inch girth. We guess it to be close to 8lbs, my bigggest fish ever on a fly rod. (See pics of football shaped fish below) The rest of the day we scouted and stalked all the fish in the park with some sucess. I hooked some more good fish, but they hung me up. CenterPunch hooked some monsters, but I'll let him post to tell you about them. All in all a good day, my 21st birthday was on the 16th, and I could of not asked for a better present. jrbhc8
  7. One more week and I can go out with you all. I won't be able to fish until the weekend of the 16th. jrbhc8
  8. I wish I could of made the trip down there with them, but school has me tied up for another 2 weeks. I can't wait for X-mas break!! jrbhc8
  9. UPDATE: I just talked to them and them made it down at 2:00 A.M.. They went fishing from 2:00-5:30. jrbhc8
  10. Hey Leonard, topjaw and centerpunch gave me a call last night saying that they were stuck in traffic on I-44 around Buckhorn. The roads were pretty bad still and truckers couldn't pull a hill. They called me at 8:00 P.M. wanting to know when BPS closes and I told them 10:00. At about 10:00 they called me back to tell me they moved about a half mile on the road. The last time I talked with them it was about 11:00 and they were moving slowly. Haven't heard if they made it down there or not, but if they did I'm sure they will be there tonight. jrbhc8
  11. Bad Day....? Looks like you all did alright. That brown is pretty wicked looking, a rare catch in Maramec. Shawn, it looked like you had a good catch. Give me 3 more weeks to finish school, and I'll be down there with you guys. jrbhc8
  12. Once again, nice rainbow pics. I bet that they all put up a good fight. Your making Meremac Springs the upcoming place to fish in the winter. We will have to give the current and bennett a try later in Dec when I get done with school. Wetdreams fish looks like a rainbow colored log without that tail, I bet it was like reeling one in too. jrbhc8
  13. I was one of the 4 guys that went out with CenterPunch and topjaw. I got to see this fish cuaght right in front of me, and it's the biggest fish I've seen caught out of Maramec in a long time. Not to mention it was with a flyrod. Other than trying to keep up with these guys, I had a great time fishing today. Here's another pic with CenterPunch, and a couple of smaller ones that I caught. Enjoy. P.S. Jared my cell phone is still in your truck, I'll have to try and come get it tomorrow night.
  14. Where's the Fish? No I am serious.... John
  15. I didn't know they were improving the lunker pool this time of year. Just Kidding...I seen both of these monsters today, and for Maramec these are trophies. But,don't think the stream is full of these caliber fish, there are still an abundance of the 8oz stockers swimming everywhere. Nice Fish, maybe more Wednesday. Later, John
  16. Good to see someone out there is helping others. I'm the same way, I'd rather see the little kid next to me catch fish after fish, even if I couldn't get a bite. It is a great feeling to finally start to get into the trout, and there is no doubt that your jigs are helping people do this. I just wish that other people would realize that is not always about catching fish, it's about the expierience.
  17. Everyone now knows about the rubber band jigs. I've been using them and tying my own homemade ones for years down there, but after awhile it just gets too easy. That's why I have been picking up the flyrod more this summer, to try to master another skill.
  18. I too was down at the park on Sat morning to try to catch a few rainbows on my new flyrod. A friend and I made it down to the bridge before the bell, and got in the water with the 5 other people who beat us down there. Being that we had the flyrods we tried to space ourselves to give us room and to be considerate of the other fishermen that beat us down there. We noticed tons of fish everywhere and I had a good feeling I was going to get some good practice with the flyrod. Right before the bell rang the usual rush made it down to the bridge and 4 more locals hopped in the water and waded to the right of the 5 original guys at the bridge hole. Then 3 more older locals got in the water and crowded around me and my friend. I literally had one guy standing on my right shoulder, and my buddy had a guy sitting on his left. The bell rang and everyone casted catching plenty of fish. Everyone at the bridge was using ruber band jigs except us, so I knew that they would light them up. I only made five good cats at the bridge and looked at my friend and told him, I've had enough. No one would let us get a drift in, and they all just wanted to keep catching fish and not taking turns. I was very consdierate of everyone, and even stopped fishing for about 5 minutes to let the guy next to me reel in a nice fish. It's unfortunate that he never returned the favor. Overall I am pretty disgusted and this will probably be the last time I will fish the park this year. The worst part was that I knew most of these locals. Hopefully one of these days these guys will stop worrying about catching numbers and just fish to fish. There will always be plenty of fish to go around. Sorry about the long post, needed to vent a little. Good luck to all who plan to fish Maramec.
