  1. Not the big buck i was after but after hunting every day of the rifle season including before work or after work (joys of working night shift) as well as most days i was off during the first half of archery season I was blessed with this 8 pt on the morning of the 22nd. He came in following a doe and after about 10 mins he finally stopped in an opening thru the limbs of the tree I was in at 60 yds. hit him solid broadside thru both shoulders. spun around and ran down the hill another 60 yds before finally crashing in the timber. shot him with my grandfathers old JC Higgins Sears and Roebuck model 50 30-06 that I inherited years ago. had a running shot on a stud of a buck (2nd pic), especially for Taney Co, 4 days before that that my buddy shot 45 minutes after he came running by me chasing a doe, just couldnt get him to slow down or stop for me but I'm glad he got a shot on him. up till that point I had been seeing was spikes and yearling. My buck. 8pt and the tip of the right antlers were worn flat. Buddy's buck. mainframe 8 with a kicker on the right and a drop tine at the base of the right antler.

    Happy Thanksgiving.

And to you and Pat as well Marty. I've shot at 1 about 3 weeks ago and shaved his back when he ducked under the arrow and plumb missed one last (about shot his toe off using the wrong sight pin ). I've had several encounters but they usually picky me off sitting 15 ft up before I'm able to draw.
  3. Shot my first turkey with a bow and from the tree stand. Seems like they pick me off every time and this morning they had me pegged at 10 yds with no shot but weren't completely spooked. they skirted out to about 35 yds when one finally stepped into an opening for me to thread and arrow thru I let it loose and it connected. took off hobbling with my arrow for 40 yds before finally giving in.
  4. Congrats and awsome write up as usuall Marty. one of these days might actually go on a duck hunt and kill a duck ;). big push of snow and specs, wave after wave, today while sitting in the deer stand.
  5. As if the ducks didn't stand a chance from you without power now you've went uped the game on em ;). looks good Marty.
  6. Sounds like you got this ol' waterfowl math down ;). Congrats. My last 2 sits have been nothing but skeeter swats more than anything else. Haven't seen a Teal since last monday.
  7. We'll be more than happy to take the pressure off of you Marty if you'll push them birds down here ;). What a awesome hunt and I may know someone with a dawg if you need some help shooting and retrieving ;).
  8. Awesome Marty. Skipped Monday and went dove hunting with a buddy from work west of Mt Vernon. No pics but managed to scratch out 10 after shooting 2 boxes of shells. After the first box I realized I had my waterfowl choke tube in. Changed out tubes and miraculously started dropping birds ;). Tuesday teal hunted and not a single one. Ton of woodies tho.

Thank you and yes. Haven't seen the numbers that I normally do down here either.
  10. But she gets the job done with style and a smile ;).
  11. I believe if you look in Martys pics you'll see a dove MOJO as well ;).
  12. She's actually black Phil ;). Yea she was retrieving one out of view of the camera and came back behind the gopro. The yella pup was going for the same bird before I stopped her with a whistle and was able to cast her to the left.
  13. Yup ;). Seems like teal respond better to it than the mallard mojos. I'll use the dove mojos mixed in with the mallard mojos during big duck season as well.
  14. Hopefully this link works.
  15. I just use the dawg toes if I need to go any higher than what I have ;).
  16. Our math is definitely a lot betterthan that fang dangled stuff their teaching nowadays ;).

Well nothing else after the initial flight. Fog rolled in pretty thick shortly after that. Called it a day at 0900. Another glorious day to be out and enjoy what the good Lord provides.

2 shots, 4 down, by 7. Flock of 12 or so worked about 15 minutes before sunrise and we're driving the Dawgs crazy. Shooting time and they were right on time. Shot once, 2 fell, or so i thought ,which turned out to be 3, swung on the next and he folded. Decided better hold off on the 3rd shot and see actually how many were down. Came in a lot tighter than I had thought they were ;). Now to sit for another hour before church.
  20. Love it. Congrats to ya both. Thought I was going to have same issue with the birds I shot as they were about 10 yds from me when i jumped them out of the dekes and surprise one had a few breast pellets and the other I literally took the top of his head off. Blew out the skull from the eyes up.
  21. Way to go. Congrats.
  22. She's ready ;).
  23. Got of work at 0600 and had the breakfast table set for the teal by 0630. Had a few show up while setting the table and they didn't stick around very long. Passed on 2 small flocks that gave me a good look and probably would of sat down for a quick bite if it wasn't the guy on the kayak that was paddling thru. Apologized as he went thru and I said no worries didn't think he saw me in the brush and I didn't want scare him out of the yak if I had shot. He thanked me saying he didnt see the dekes till it was too late and went on. About a half hour later a bass boat set up and starts fishing 75 to 100 yds infront. Was hoping they would troll on down but they weren't so stepped out to to say hi and give them a fair warning that if birds came to not be startled if I started shooting ;). They quickly apologized saying they didn't see me and motored on down the lake. Finally had a pair come in and set down at the table. Needless to say I stood up to welcome them and promptly sat them back down as they tried leave ;). Sat for another hour and nothing so picked up the table settings and called it a morning. Beautiful post storm sunrise this morning was awesome and the teal were just a bonus. Surprised that I didn't hear another shot while I was out.

For me the dog is probably the main reason I enjoy fowl hunting so much. She has her blonde moments and wants to just run looking instead of trusting me where i send her or using her nose in open ground. Whatched run past and step on bird twice today that i had to pull her back and calm her down and rsend her. Stuff 8n cover she does good with and found 3 of the birds yesterday that never would have. Didn't miss much this morning. Just my son, that is home on leave this weekend from the Air Force, and I in the field. Ended up with 5 between us and maybe saw that many more, I ended up leaving around 0830, 12 hour shift before hunting is catching up to me ;). I did pick up about 30 shells where that was sitting at in the middle tho ;). He was tearing em up with some high brass 20 gauge shells ;).
