Ummm... How about a set of side running boards. Step out of the truck onto the running boards, step down to the bed, hop into the bed and do it like ya used to.

You didn't list any smallmouth flies.

Leinenkugels aka: Squaw Piss Lived in Chippewa Falls for a while back around '76. Hated that beer. Never will try it again. Love to get back up there some time tho. I didn't fish back then, but I'd like to try the Chippewa river some day.

Mo Non-Resident Fishing License
flytyer57 replied to flytyer57's topic in General Angling Discussion
That sounds like a deal to me. Now I just gotta find some time to get up there. Today I'm off work but I'm waiting on a call from the unemployment people back in WI so I gotta sit around till they call. Tomorrow got shopping to do for new work clothes. I have more time down here. Why not just come down here if you want a lesson. Water's water right? I hope to be at Pigeon Creek on lake Norfork catching some more big gills tonite. -
Mo Non-Resident Fishing License
flytyer57 replied to flytyer57's topic in General Angling Discussion
As soon as I can afford a license and find the time to come up there. -
Thanks for the info here. See my post at "Beaver Lake" about being at Atalanta Sunday nite. I hope I can get out there. I usually like to fish near the bridge.

I guess maybe I should have deleted the "To those who have caught both, how would you rate (compare) the fight between a Muskie and a Gar ?" in my reply so there would have been no confusion over my reply to the "Do Musky get air ?" Sorry again if I made you become "Dazed And Confused."

Thanks for the input. I tried to pm you but got some message about you not being able to recieve any more pm's at this time. Don't know what that's about. I'd like to get out and explore Atalanta or Beaver. In fact, I'll be over to Atalanta tomorrow nite (Sunday) from 6-7:30 or so if it ain't raining again. If you're out and about, look for the white Plymouth Grand Voyager with the TU, BASS, NAFC, stickers on the back window. I still haven't gotten around to ordering my OA stickers.

Let me be a little more clear on my statements. I have never caught a musky. That is, I never hooked one and landed it. I have caught a lot of northern pike, got them in the net, in my hands etc. I have fished a lot of waters that contain musky and have had my lures/flies bitten off by some toothy critter. Could have been musky, could have been northerns. I hope that you are no longer confused. If you are, I'm sorry. I'm not the professional you need to be seeking help from.

I have not seen a better forum for fishing.

Smallmouth. Pound for pound the gamest fish that swims. Walleye. Good eatin' but no fight to 'em.

I am actually looking to both shore fish and kayak fish. Right now my yak is in the storage locker and I'm not planning on hauling it out for another week or so depending on where I can find a place to live. Where I'm staying now is not an option to keeping a kayak around. Shore fishing is always an option for me since I can get off work and just drive to the lake and fish without the hassle of hauling the yak out of the van and setting it up and then drying off afterwards (my yak is a sot.) I have the map you are refering to. I just haven't gotten around to "exploring" yet. I was hoping to get some info from those who are more familiar with the lake and might know of some back water bays that might be close enough to a launch area. The info you provided will be a good start. I have off of work this Friday so I'll definately get out and check some of the places you listed. I haven't found Van Winkle Hollow or Monte but I'll study the map some more. What do you know about War Eagle and Blue Springs Recreation Areas down at the south end of the lake? They look far enough from the main lake that they might not receive too much pressure. Hickory Creek RA also looks like it might have some nice back bays close by. Well, thanks for the info. I'll have to get out there and put some time in now.

On the news last nite, they were warning people about the bears. They were saying that if you go out in the forests, to take along some protection "like a gun or pepper spray." Now I can just see the headlines; "Hiker Shot In Mark Twain National Forrest" with the report saying some clown with a gun thought the hiker was a bear Let's face it. Black bears are no real threat to humans unless provoked. If you're hiking through the woods and encounter a bear, drop that fish you're planning on taking home to show your buddies and slowly back away. The bear don't want you, it wants the fish. Are you willing to die for a lousy 12" fish? I didn't think so. (At least I hope you wouldn't.) The bears are migrating and there's no way to stop them without killing them all. This was their home long before any man set foot here and like it or not, they're coming back home.

Oh. Well, there's nothing more satisfying than a hard day at work even if it's on the water.

That would mean getting a MO license and finding the time to drive up there. Have to wait and see what 2nd shift will be like at work first. Right now I'm working 1st shift and 10 hour days M-Th with a little OT on Friday. Still get time to get back to Mountain Home Friday afternoon and get the laundry done and read Ozark Anglers forums. Not sure what 2nd will bring. Hopefully I'll still get plenty of time to go fishing. If not, guess I'll have to quit one or the other. Work or fish? Hmmmm...

Is there any good shore fisning on Beaver? I'm in the process of moving from Mountain Home to the Rogers/Springdale area and need to know of some good shoreline access spots. Any good place to put in a kayak without getting run over by a bass boat zipping along at 60 mph would be nice to know too.

I bought a detailed lake map for Beaver at the Walmart in Rogers for less then $8.

Mo Non-Resident Fishing License
flytyer57 replied to flytyer57's topic in General Angling Discussion
Back in WI, the license expired March 31, and opening day is the first Saturday in May for game fish, although you can fish for panfish and some other species all year. Trout opener is first Saturday in May also, but they have an early season on select streams. -
I've never caught a musky. I have caught northern pike, a close relative to the musky.

Mo Non-Resident Fishing License
flytyer57 replied to flytyer57's topic in General Angling Discussion
Thanks to all who've replied. Now that I'm working again, I might go out and buy an annual non-resident and come up there and "show you" how to fish. Does the annual expire one year from the date of purchase like here in AR or at the end of the calendar year? -
I've never caught a gar or a musky. I have caught northern pike, a close relative to a musky though. "Hammer Handles" is what we call a small pike/musky usually less than 15 inches. As for targeting gar or musky, I don't know how big musky get in MO, but I do know the world record musky was over 60" and up in WI 50 inchers are quite common. As for fighting ability goes, they do not just roll over and give up. They will fight and you better have some backing on your reel cuz they will run. Their long sleek bodies are made for speed. You can get them next to the boat and think the fight is over, then they will launch into another long run and start the fight all over again. There are plenty of folks up in Wisconsin, Minnesota etc., that target musky exclusively. The Wisconsin State fish is a musky. As for color, most true musky have olive colored bodies with vertical bars along their flanks. I've attached a color chart showing their markings. I quit fishing for them a long time ago because of their teeth. Not only do they have teeth along the jawline, they have them on the top of their mouths. They destroy lures and flies in short order. I can't count the number of times I've lost flies to pike/musky while fishing for smallies up in WI. Sure, there were quite a number of times that I was lucky enough to land one, but without jaw spreaders, it's almost impossible to get your lure or fly back, even if they are hooked in the corner of their jaw. I learned rather quickly to carry a spreader in my vest pocket just in case. As for taste, I know that northern pike are very delicious. Just have to watch out for the "Y" bones along the back. And they fillet with a regular filleting knife.

Has anyone out here ever fished Lake Atalanta in Rogers, AR? I've been out there a few times and caught small bass and a stocker rainbow fishing from shore. I know it gets pounded by the locals. I was just wondering if anyone knows if there are some decent fish in this lake, or is it just a put and take fishery? What are the regs on putting in my own kayak to fish from?

I was just doing a quick search for a non-resident fishing license for MO. I see a license is $42. Then there's a "Daily Permit" required on top of that? What exactly does a non-resident need to fish in MO??????

Thanks. Maybe someday if it quits raining I can get over there to check it out. Does it get as much pressure as Crooked Creek?
