  1. I am going to be in the Kings Rivers area on Aug. 28th, and I have never been fishing there and would like to know about some place to wade fish for the day. Usually go to Crooked Creek but what to try something new. Will bring both fly fishing gear and ultra light gear. What kind of baits work best and where can we go. Any help would be great.
  2. I am thinking of floating from Buffalo Point to the White River in late September. I have never been on this section and I am looking for some help. I know there is limited to no access to this area and we plan on going light weight. Are there many places to camp, safely in case the river comes up fast. How and where do we take out on the White. Also does anyone know of someone who can take my truck to the take out point, so we don't have to drive two trucks. I usually go in May and have floated most of the middle but have never been past Buffalo Point. Our plan is to camp at Buffalo over night and float for three days, is this possible, and still get some fishing in. Any information would be great.
  3. Andy we did get to float last week and the fishing was fair. We floated two sections, Snow to Kelly's Slab one day the went up to Old Pyatt Bridge to Snow another day. We all caught some fish, mostly 10-12 inch smallmouth and ozark bass. Everyone caught at least one in the 14-16 inch range and there was even a 15 inch rainbow caught about a mile above Kelly's Slab. If you float from Old Pyatt bridge you better watch out for the big log jamb about 1/4 mile down river,it is a bad one. From the new bridge on down river it was nice and used mostly olive or watermelon grubs, craws, and chompers. Also caught alot of small stuff on Rebel craw crank baits, orange bellies seem to work the best. The locals were fishing below Kelly's Slab with live bait the netted there and we saw a few 18-20 inch fish pulled out around 6 PM that way. Good luck and enjoy.
  4. You can also look at floating from Spring Creek, access off 99 south of Dillards Ferry( hwy 14 bridge , to Rush Landing. From Spring creek to Buffalo Point it is 6.1 miles and from Buffalo Point to Rush it is 7.5 miles. There is a nice campground at Buffalo Point, nice showers and restrooms, and there is a primitive campground at Rush Landing. We did this float last week and the water was nice and slow and by camping at Buffalo Point you would not have to worry about rising water levels as much as camping on the river. We used light fishing gear and fly rods and caught smallmouth and ozark bass. We did not catch anything really big, mostly 10-12 inch but everyone caught at least one that was 14-16 inches. I also caught a 14 inch rainbow on my flyrod below Buffalo point. We had no rain last week and the water was great but I don't know what this weather is doing to the river, you might want to check the gauge at Harriet.
  5. Thanks for the information. What size clousers do you suggest. Also I read something that the poppers are best used early or late in the day, is this correct. Do these bait work on both the buffalo and crooked creek? I will post what we find and any pictures.
  6. Thanks for the reply, we plan to float that same stretch if the river stays down. Will be glad to see a new part of the river and see if it any different then the upper part. We have heard that the fishing is better on the lower end but not sure if they ment the last 25 miles before the white or also in this section. Will give a report when we get home and attach any good pics.
  7. We are going to be floating and fishing Crooked Creek in early May and have only floated from Snow down to Yellville. Can someone tell me a little about what it is like farther up stream. Looking at from harman down or Maybe starting at Pyatt. What is the usual water flow like, would we have to drag canoes alot if the water is normal. Also what kind of fishing is that far up stream, like deep pools or can we fly fish.
  8. I will be floating from Spring to Rush between May 4-7. I have never been on that part of the river and am looking for some advice on what to expect in the way of floating and fishing. We will mostly be using ultra light gear but plan on bring my new fly rod this year. What type of flies work in the area and any advice of color. We hope the water is a little lower this year and doesn't come up 10 feet over night like last May. We will also try to float Crooked Creek one day also. What is this about them taking out Kelly's Slab and has this affected the flow any.
  9. We will be staying a Buffalo Point the first week of May and plan of floating and fishing both the Buffalo and Crooked Creek a couple days each that week. We always use ultra light gear but this year a couple of us plan on trying out our new fly rods. Anyone got any suggestion on what the best flies to use and how to fish them. We hope the water stays alittle lower this year because last year the Buffalo came up 10 feet the first day there and we never got a chance to float and Crooked Creek was about 2 feet over Kelly's Slab and this made for some quick floating and not as good fishing. We still had fun camping and telling lies to each other. We have only fished hgher up the Buffalo and do not know this part of the river so any suggestions on the lower Buffalo would be great also.
