We need a Champion. If just one oil company would step up and drop prices by 10 cents and continue to undercut the others they would make more money than they know what to do with. As evidenced in this post people are looking for the cheapest gas prices. The biggest problem is they have us by the lower unit. We are our own demise, more and more people are using SUV's as mini-vans. Twice the gas use. I remember back in the day of the mini-van one of their strong points was fairly decent mileage. I know one thing it is definately going to cut into my trips down south this year. My gas consumption doesn't change that much pulling my pop up with my truck as long as I keep my foot out of it. I guess that is one thing I have control over is my foot!!

When I was down there last weekend I noticed "E" hiway crosses just above Osceola. I haven't checkded but it may be Roscoe. There's a ramp and looks like people jerk from the bank there. Unless things have changed we didn't have any luck above Osceola. We tore them up below Warsaw.

My bad, I noticed I put 65 bridge, obviously was the 54. Sorry! BTW did I mention not only my first one for the year but first one ever! Not bad, started snagging on the Osage when I was 8 before Truman was in, finally getting one now that I'm 51. I'm hooked!!

We started out just above Osceola this morning. No fish on any of the few boats. We yanked up to Rosco, never hitting anything. We headed downstream around 1130 and loaded up. Pulled the boat over to Warsaw got some lunch and put in at the city ramp. Ran down to 65 bridge and noticed every boat had a least 1 on the side. We pulled for a about an hour turned around and headed back upstream and I hooked my first spoonbill. He was around 45 or 50. We slipped back down a ways and went through the same area, within 30 minutes I had another on around 40. My buddy's girlfriend got one about 30 minutes later, she went around 70. Really a good day.

Cleaning Waders
brittsnbirds replied to brittsnbirds's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Thanks for the info. Terry- do you have the url for John Wilson's forum? -
What is the best method for me to clean my Simms Goretex waders? I noticed I have a black smudge on the rear from setting on something. I tried to get into the Simms site but it is down. Any suggestions?

I was there last week. I mainly fished the hole up from the dam. I stripped cracklebacks on full sink line DEEP. I also fished just above the falls further up towards the Spring. The fish that I caught just above the dam in the deeper water were bigger than the dinks I caught from the spring down. Olive and copper Crackles, Renegades, Griffiths Gnat, assorted colored woolies and Zebra midges should get you some fish. Some of the other excellent producers have been the multi-colored glo balls or the bedspread unit, "John Deere" and "Brown Roach" mini-jigs drifted under a strike indicator. When in doubt go up to Weavers and talk with them or check out their site http://www.missouritrout.com/weavers/report.html for their fishing reports. Sounds like it will be a good weekend!

May road trip Need some direction.

mcp633- sounds like they put you on a vacation? My dept. loves to do that! -
I stopped by Rainbow Fly shop today and picked up some 22 and 26 hooks. I'm going to try and tie some up in PMD and evenings. I've also got some of the celery colored thread (Gaston's) and tie up a little of everything. troutchaser, thanks for the suggestion it doesn't take much to bulk those little devils up. I took a tip another guy suggested down at BSP use the opposite. He gave me a Hopper and tried it. Missed several strikes and hooked up on a decent one. Thanks for all the suggestions.

While I was at BSP last weekend I noticed every afternoon at about 1500 there was a massive hatch. I tried and tried to match the hatch to no avail. Got with Eric at the store and he told me another fisherman was getting them to take a Pale Evening Dunn size 22/24. I bought a few and tried them the next afternoon. They continued to refuse what I presented. I think the size was still a little large. I was able to capture some of the little things and noticed they had 2 different body colors. One color was a little lighter than the Pale evening Dunn (yellow) and the other was a slight gray appearance. I was using 7x leader and picked up a few dinks on a little 22 white unit I tie. Any suggestions?

Hate to tell you this mcp633 but I had to return home due to another problem. I was planning on pulling out of BSP Sunday and head to Montauk. Got a call from the boss (wife) telling me to get home. She and the other boss (mother-in-law) moved up the m.i.l's move date. Sorry I couldn't get in touch but I didn't have your number with me. The wife said I could run back down Thursday but I'm not sure about the weather. Sorry about the mix up.

I'm thinking about blowing out of here this PM for Bennett. Stay the weekend then head on down to Montauk for the rest of the week. I can't decide if I'm going to leave early, I haven't packed anything.

You would know it, Spring breaks coming, I've got a kitchen pass and the forecast isn't that good for the week of 4/9. Oh well the dog and I will tough it out. I camped the week after Christmas and the opener and I survived. mcp633, I need to pick your brain for the hotspots at Montauk.

Better you than me on TV. Last time I spoke to a KCTV5 reporter I was mis-quoted, imagine that. There pretty well known up here as anti-cop. In fact they have been trying to hang Independance PD about their public complaint system. Wasn't for us and the bad guys they wouldn't have stories!! Wooo hoo Spring Breaks a comin!

Fishing Report-Bennett Springs
brittsnbirds replied to damselfly's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
damselfly- I stopped by and spoke with Wanda today. They moved the shop across to the North of 40 hiway in the antique mall. I asked her if her ears were burning, when I told her she was refranced she had a big smile on her face. Maybe it was her memories of Lem or just the fact that people used her info. I picked up some #8 hooks from her and she gave me the "skinny" on "Lem's" Renegade. Just got done tying some. Thanks for the reminder and I'm sure Wanda is glad people remember Lem! -
mcp633- you get my e-mail? We still on for the week of 4/9? Had any repercussions from your little problem down at the Cap?

I use one from Cabela's that was 69 bucks. It's breathable, big pockets, hood and folds into a nice neat little pack. It also has the velcro wrist staps that seal out the water. It's big enough to get a fleece jacket under and is short enough it doesn't drag in the water. Plus it's Cabela's, they take just about everything back.

Fishing Report-Bennett Springs

gonefishin- I didn't misunderstand. I agree with you. Whether they are fly or spin the is no excuse for rude behaviour. People need to understand that we are all Americans and we need to treat each other with respect! damselfly- I know Rainbow Fly Shop just off of 40 hiway in Independance. Wanda is the lady you are talking about. She's a sweatheart and would help anyone with a pattern. I'll be making a trip over there Saturday morning to get a few things. I remember her talking about that Renegade that she tied for the gentleman you spoke of. I'll check it out! Thanks -
Fishing Report-Bennett Springs

gonefishin- I have felt your pain. When I was a kid my dad took me to BSP. I didn't have waders just my trusty ultra-lite. I would wade as deep as I could stand (lower unit). But inevitably a flyfisherman would step in front of me or move in and crack me with his backcast. I've seen my dad display some of his Irish temper. Today I seldom spin fish. However I am always aware of my surroundings. I have seen a change for the better but as you have mentioned there are some "hole hogs" that don't give a rats a#$. Like troutbum said it's not worth it. I just move. One complaint that I have is people not paying attention to my backcast. There have been times where I am working a hole and someone, usually a spin fisherman walks right up behind me and starts fishing. At that point I don't want to loose my fly to his head. I usually turn around and (as nice as I can) let him know that he is about to get snagged. Usually that will do it. Over the past few years I have made numerous friends on the stream and have educated myself from the contacts. Hopefully the times will continue to change and the rude ones will get leaky waders! -
Leonard- Is this the pic you were talking about? http://www.freestateflyfishers.org/blog/po...quirrel-Sculpin

Primrose and Pearl midge pattern
brittsnbirds replied to BuschTrout22's topic in Fly Tying Discussions & Entymology
gundog- I haven't figured out how to make it bigger. Probably should just put my dog's pic in, they are better looking. I'm a cop up in North Cass County, I help Paul G. out at the Ozanam field trial every year. You probably don't know me, I don't run my Britts (can't afford it, note the occupation), I just work and enjoy watching the dogs. I do know one thing your Scouts put on a good feed, thanks. I tie my rusty midge similar to the primrose. I just change colors. I use a contrasting colored thread as the body to a copper bead and copper wire. I've used black thread and olive. I put some crystal flashabo in there for the heck of it! -
Fishing Report-Bennett Springs
brittsnbirds replied to damselfly's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
damselfly- Were you using a crackle with grizzly or other color hackle? Did you mean a size 8 renegade? That's huge. -
Well I know what I will be doing tomorrow. A fat e-mail to the MDC to find out who was in charge then go from there. But that goes to show you and mcp633 probably will agree. If MDC sponsored it, they sure as heck aren't going to Police it! I think they might consider that entrapment. What do you think mcp? That would sure put a black eye on the MDC. Is the poacher hotline manned or is it a recording?

Duckman- Do you have a report around Osceola?
