  1. When they start generating on a hot day you get some really thick fog, but I have seen people ski down to Houseman's and lot of house watching 25-30 ft inboards run down there so any bass boat will not have trouble. Putting in at Holiday Island is a lot nicer than putting in at Houseman's. I have put in at Houseman's and making it back into the fog sucks, if you are running back to Holiday Island it is easy to beat the fog. My GPS has a good map with the main channel marked good(helps between Beaver Town and Holiday Island) and stay off plain Between Houseman's and Beaver Town , it is just local courtesy lots of small craft, wadding and such good place to troll any way. The bottom is soft sand 80 % of the way. I can get on plane at 12mph but when I see another boat ahead I slow down and pass a 5mph, just the way it is expected in that area. Took some yelling and fist shacking to teach me that........
  2. I would suggest you get your shad between Houseman's and Holiday Island or use a light at night on Beaver. Also the biggest trout I have caught have been past Houseman's running back to Holiday Island. I saw were you plan to troll cranks but IMO dropping shad is much more productive.I carry a long handle scoop net and just scrap the shad off the top of the water when they generate in the tailwaters, by following the cold water/warm water line down stream. But when they aren't generating throwing a cast net on big shad balls in the shallows of the river is much more productive then trying to find shad on the North end of the lake 80% of the time.
  3. They have stars making future stores on their site, if they are moving to NWA I don't know why they would not advertise that like other future sites. This area would not be as close as their two stores in Memphis or Branson and Springfield. BPS has become such a clothing store, not really excited but more employment activity is always welcome.
  4. I went to the first day of interviews and must have been a 100 people there and everyone wanting to work in the fishing department. I also was there and got 5 questions straight from anger management text books, drug test and we will let you know. Really disappointed there was no one even trying to asses product knowledge or experience other than running a cash register and how do you get along with humans. Guess when you have to screen thousands of applicants that is all you have time to do. Did anyone else attend an interview? I was told staff training and store set up would start in 3 to 4 weeks so guess the store will not open until July.
  5. Besides the back, sounds like a good day. Did you stay mid-lake? Pulled a muscle a while back just picking up the newspaper and could not even roll over in bed for a week, so I know how it feels. Loosing weight is always the best way to prevent that, good luck I am stuck at 180 trying to get back to 160 for my heart and back but the older you are the harder it gets.
  6. Neet, good tool for deciding between lakes and direction of travel. I like seeing how the wind changes near the mountains.
  7. Purpose Beaver Lake is one of five multiple-purpose projects constructed in the White River Basin for the control of floods, generation of hydroelectric power, and public water supply. The project also offers excellent recreational opportunities. http://www.swl.usace.army.mil/parks/beaver/damandlake.htm Just sayn'
  8. I was really out spoken about how they allowed no room for spring rains two years in a row and destroyed homes down stream due to using the flood gates plus the waste of energy of water going over the dam instead of through it. So I can't agree with high water in the spring being a good thing, maybe for the spawn but not for property along the lake or for generating clean electricity. It has always been practice to draw down during the winter to allow storage room for flood control and that being the 1st purpose of the lake I would have to side with the ACE on doing their job this year. Controlling the fish population is AGFC's job. Just sayin'...... How far up river walleye have to go to spawn I have no idea but I do know using the flood gates to control the water levels are bad since Beaver is the first lake in the chain of flood control and having water going over the darn to a flooded Table Rock was a bad thing.
  9. Bluebasser I would recommend the Beaver tailwaters for an outing with your wife, in the afternoons when they generate the water temp falls to 50 degrees and makes for some great fishing as the shad get stunned and it runs off the water skiers and swimmers who don't like 50 degree water. With a mix of whites, trout, big bass and walleye all feeding together you can have some great afternoons with few distractions except for watching beavers and mink. When the fog runs in about dark is my favorite time but can be a little slow and hairy running back through the fog in near darkness, but it feels so good on a hot summer day. Last year when temps were over a hundred my wife and I were wearing jackets at 7pm and shaking at the ramp in 90 degree weather. There are more people who don't understand our sport the those that do so IMO the secret to enjoying the summer months is too escape the places people like to use as swimming holes.
  10. Just checked out the A rigs at walmart on a huny-do run and I think you are talking about the Bama rig and it is 5in instead of 6 1/2 in. I am surprised that makes such a big difference in casting..I did notice the swivels were smaller, that also takes off a 1/4 inch. I also have the paddle tail hanging on the hook problem and I never have that happen on a single bait, I am going to try a snap without a swivel on one just to see the difference to see if it is the swivel that makes the tail wrap around.
  11. I'll have to give that a try, I have made some larger ones to spread out larger swim baits without tangling but haven't gone that small yet. Sounds like legs are 2 1/2 inches since standard legs are 5in and I have been throwing 7inches. I guess you are throwing smaller grubs and 3in swim baits on these smaller legs? Takes me about $2.50 and 5min to throw one together and I have no handyman skills at all, but if you can cut a wire and bend a wire these are the easiest thing in fishing to make. IMO easier than attaching braid to fluorocarbon, Just saying......
  12. How long are the legs on the smaller A-rig you are talking about?
  13. Makes you wonder if you can't get a state official to weigh a fish right in Arkansas where can you set a record? NYC? This is an area where half the residents make their living selling cattle.... everything to do with raising cows has to be weighed..... This is fishing not passing a bill through congress, sad that our government can't even agree on how to weigh a fish and there are departments set up to argue this process.... I found a dying silver carp in Beaver one day that I lifted up on the boat and it was over 50lbs on my scales and regretted at the time not taking it in to see if it was a state record...so glad I didn't now...the fish wasn't "caught" on a hook anyway. Does anyone know if this guy had tobacco on the boat or if he is a democrat or republican or what web sites he has been on???? IT IS WEIGHING A FISH NOT ATOMS!!!!!
  14. I don't see how denying the World Record Striper is helping the State of Arkansas?? I know they can't deny a World Record but denying it was caught here or are they denying it was caught or it was 68lbs? The fact AGFC can't afford a set of certified scales to travel with makes me wonder what they do with the money we give them. If they can't weigh a fish why are we paying so many of the 6 figures a year. Give me a state car and $30K a year and I will travel anywhere any time night and day to weigh your possible records( will even buy the scales), even take pics with my own cell phone.lol Oh I can't do that forgot I didn't have the right degree.....lol Guess if I had a masters I would understand why you can't carry a certified spring scale....
  15. They always show anglers fighting and complaining about other anglers in "their" spot when they get ahead and boats within casting distance yelling at each other like school children. Stuff like "I had this cove all to my self and now I am in the top 10 there are 3 more boats in here with me." For pros it seems they have never fished public water before.
  16. Did everyone see this on the general forum. http://www.katv.com/story/18449201/heart-broken-not-record
  17. I guess I am just different on this, if I am on a good hole I will wave in a close boat and tell them I am on them. If they start hitting more then me I will ask what they are throwing. I have made some good friends that way and even got invited to follow them to their next spot. I would rather have another fisherman bumping my boat then a water skier 50 feet away. If I am having a bad day I will ease up on boat, not casting and ask for advice and most of time they will invite me to fish along side of them for a while sharing a pattern. I think if you introduce yourself, exchange names and where you are from, then people are more accepting to other people then they are boats. Sort of like cars they make me mad sometimes then I look inside and the older lady reminds me of my Mom or scared young girl reminds me of my daughter or maybe a guy my age reminds me I have senior moments on the road. A howdy neighbor wave and I don't feel upset with that "person" any longer, just have to remember these are my neighbors and friends and country men out there not robots driving cars and humans will make mistakes. We share so much on this board, why not shake hands and share on the water.....there is more than one fish in that lake and I have as much fun watching you catch one as I do catching it myself.
  18. I was just wondering if anyone has tried throwing 5 of those same swimbaits on an A-rig on those schooling whites? Double triple 2-3 lb whites sounds like fun.
  19. The rivet is in two pieces, you take the female end with the round end down and insert a doubled16 in bent wire about half way up. Then you insert the other 3 wires and push the rivet up as far as you can. They are snug now, but take your wire cutters and crimp in 3 places, you will not get them apart now, If this isn't making a mental picture for you, send me a PM with your phone number and if you are near Rogers I will meet you at a coffee shop, you buy coffee and I will make you one so you cam see how it is done. Takes less time then drinking a small coffee, any place but starbucks, their coffee sucks.lol
  20. I use the wire for hanging pictures from home depot (20 gauge stainless), then crimp together with a rivet, then same blue and white stuff, skipping the rivet has made some wires come loose on me. I have to pass the covering with loctite stuff to the wife to get something looks pretty. Box of 50 rivets are $5 and I use wire cutters to make the crimp. I also saw some wire at Walmart 18 gauge 25 feet for $1.98 I think would work ok. But putting together five pieces of wire and twisting on 5 swivels should never cost $25, but if you got it flaunt it is my motto. Myself I have to squeeze every cent out of every buck that comes my way.
  21. I use a 3/16" rivet to hold the wires together then shape a fish head (sort of) over the rivet just for looks and you can lock them in a vise and pull with vise grips and not pull them apart. I use a sharpie to add some color and coat with clear finger nail polish to seal them up. By the way, the above post is sold out.
  22. Really nice pics, the tailwaters are a nice getaway and in the summer a nice break fro the boaters. Every once in a while on a hot summer day there will be a ski boat or two run up to Houseman's and back but for the most part just fishermen not in a hurry and sharing fishing reports. It is tradition not to get on plane past the town of Beaver and ounce I learned that I got along with the locals a lot better. I can spend an entire day just watching the birds, beavers and mink along the tailwaters.
  23. If my boat was up I would be there, but as always just bad timing. I believe you they are there. Would not except repeat of 10lber though, they are rare.
  24. All the way down to spider creek? Guess you will be putting in at Holiday Island? I would go to that point right after generation starts and go after stripers in the morning if the generation schedule stays the same......I always like to follow the cold water line back, but that is just me.
