  1. I am confused as to what is a "power pack"? From the stator the power then goes to the voltage regulator then to the CDM Modules. Replaced the voltage regulator about a 2 years ago and one CDM module. Those CDM modules are harder to test than you think, they have four leads that plug into together and has be tested with the engine runnind, if you unplug one to test the engine dies so ccan't be done with a simple voltage meter. This model engine also does not use a switch box, I could probally get a CDM Module and move it from cyl to cyl until I ruled out a bad one but that is $70 for a part I might not need and at this point just don't have the funds. Just for some background about two years ago, I had a ground come off the battery while running that burnt my wiring harness up, had to replace the wiring harness, voltage regulator and one cdm module at that point. I replace the wiring and voltage regulator(it had melted) mechanic replaced CDM module and thru away my new champlian spark plugs replaced with NGKs and charged anothe $75 for that. Since all the wires from the stator and triger were fried from that fire, that is what makes me think the stator has finnialy gave way. Thanks
  2. I have a friend who fished the White down near the 412 bridge yesterday and did not find any whites in the morning. I went out with him in the afternoon and in 5 hours of looking in the war eagle we found one. I saw a guide at PT12 that we fished near for over an hour and they had one good fish on with 8 baited lines out. The river is really muddy right now and between 64 and 68 degrees so I am guessing the spawn is over for the wites and stripers and they are on the move out of the river arms. I would look more midlake now. The mud had not reached Hickory Creek yet, but was traveling north.
  3. I have had it there for a while no replies, two pages back already. I am pretty sure it is a stator or triger. Ethier way it means pulling the flywheel, then there is the cost of parts over $300 and I am not into resetting timming so that means a mechanic, so until I have a full time job,I am just out a boat. I have bad luck with mechanics, seems they charge what they want, everytime I get a quote it ends up being twice as much so I will have to have an extra thousand hanging around to get someone to look at this and that won't happen anytime soon.
  4. Well carbs rebuilt, fuel system is solid and clean. Runs perfect on water dogs, runs fine in the water. Put it in gear in the yard on water dog she runs fine in gear. Buttt on the lake, put it in gear she dies. Looks like an electrical problem I can't solve. I have gone through the manual, unfortunately Mercury didn't use the same color wires as the manual so I can't chase the wires to save my life. So guess it is a planter this year.
  5. Good looking slabs, looks like fishing is picking up. Have to get the boat up!!!
  6. Well got every thing adjusted out and puring at idile now, starting good, butttt broke a little plastic clip that holds the connector between the throttle arm and the throttle cam. I can't find anything like that on Iboats, will hit the boat shop tomorrow to find out if they sell those or it is some expensive kit or something.
  7. I recorded Beaver Lake and was really looking forward to see where and how they were fishing. As soon as I hit play, they said welcome to Hot Springs!!! What the #$$#!!!!
  8. I've been going step by step w/manual but still haven't got it figured out. Guess it's save and wait now.
  9. Well couldn't get to idle, so just about the end of my repair knowledge and funds. Just glad it is paid off, will just be gathering dust for a while.
  10. Do they run up the white much? I see there is a season from 15 April to 15 June but have not ever seen anyone dragging any out.
  11. Well carbs all back together and new lines and fuel bulb is tighter than it has ever been, makes me think I was getting air in the line before. But know I can't get power any where, chased ground wires everywhere and can't find blown fuse, loose ground anywhere. I fixed one wire on the igintion on the motor and those where all the wires I messed with, so can't figure out what happened. The boat has a Perko switch that has OFF-1-All-2 postions on it. Is that switch stock to Nitros or an add on? I have no power anywhere, biliage pump, indicatior lights come on, fishfinder does not, no power to raise or lower enginge. There is a large fuse next to the Perko switch as 12.7 going in and 12.7 coming out. Anyone got any other ideas? Yes, I did check leads to the battery, all are super tight. UPDATE UPDATE By passed Perko switch and hooked up starting battery that on line 2 directly and everything is working, bumped motor and she started on a bump, quckiest I have ever seen the engine start. All that is left is put the boat in the water and see if she handles a load. Still courious if anyone has one of those switches.
  12. I have not fished them myself, but have friends that fish both sides.IMO if you want to watch how other people fish, or you are good enough to adjust to any style of fishing under any conditions they are great. But don't expect the boater to slow down or postion the boat for your fishing style at all or to "teach" you how to fish out of the back of the boat while he hugs a bank with the trolling motor on high and all the water you have is what the boat has run over. The best reports I get fron coanglers are the ones where the guy laid down his rod, watched the angler get his limit and was happy for the experince. The worst ones I hear about is when the boater has boat problems and can't run anywhere and still asks the coangler for $40 gas money. But don't expect to be put on fish and to share the fish with the boater, that is not going to happen, he needs those fish and 80% of the time will be thinking about blocking the back of the boat from fishing that area.It is not a team event, every big fish landed my the back of the boat is a fish the front can't wiegh so as long as you understand all of that and are willing to invest your money into a day of education that may result in someone blocking your fishing I think you will have a great time. I am just not a good backseater and don't want to put up the money for a boater entry when I know I am not good enough to win I steer clear. But if I had paid my dues to sit in more back seats and learn from people who doing right and wrong things then I would probally not feel this way.
  13. Still torn apart, truck needed some parts this week, will get boat parts next pay day if something else doesn't break first. Fixed all the wiring, have everything clean, just need to get the gasket kits and hope it isn't a high priced electrical part. I am really missing the spring stripers. I am learning more and more about the motor, part replacement is easy, if I was just better at trouble shooting.
  14. I know castmasters is Sunday out of Hickory Creek. Any jack pots going yet? Anyone fishing or tracking any other tournaments? Anyone have a small cheap club thier putting together? Myself I like the 6-10 boat friendly tournaments better than 100 boat big money tournaments. I think Castmasters still have backseaters looking for a boater if anyone is looking for a partner.
  15. I like the old fashion spring scales, I carry a 15lb and a 50lb and have always had good weights on fish and bags of fish when the batteries were dead on buddy's scales and have loaned to countless boats on the lake when thier digitals don't work. The 50lb scale I carry is 10 years old, has a hole in the face from heat damage but still right on the mark. I might be guessing at ounces, but I have a good idea no matter how long it has been since I saw the scale. Not to take away from the new scales, but I would keep a good spring scale in the boat first and go digatal second.
  16. Try the Jane's Netcraft version or Academy's H2O version, same action but at $3.50 a piece you can have a lot more in the boat for a lot less and still have money for a few gallons of gas.
  17. Yes the ramp was open and the courtisy ramp was there, good thing since I had to put a lot of the truck in the water. I would not recommend beaching.
  18. Nice eye, Beaver is slowly becoming a walleye lake, they should be spawning soon. Did you see anyone catch a big female?
  19. We got up early and launched out of Hickory Creek at sunrise, ran up war eagle as far as we could and all we found were crappie. There were a lot of people catching crappie and I saw very few going back into the water so I am guessing most were over 10in. But did not run up on any whites/strippers. Wind came up bad around noon. Water was 56 degrees and coffee w/cream color with a lot of silt and leaves suspended. If you are going after crappie, some red in the jig and using tubes seemed to be the trick. White/chartreuse or chartreuse sure will not work in a Malibu jig, plain white jigs are also a zero. Crappie were right on the wood and not moving 2ft from cover to feed, but good catches if you stayed on the wood.
  20. I've heard the stripers were running shallow and there are some good limits being caught. Does anyone have any pictures or stories to share for those of us unable to get to the lake?
  21. The problem I was having is it idles fine, shifts into gear fine out of the water with the dog ears on. When I put it in the water it dies as soon as I put it into gear. While cleaning the carbs, I found a burnt wire behind the oil reserve that went to the stater, I have replaced that wire. Just for some background, the engine had a fire about 3 years ago, due to a bad ground and I replaced most of the wiring but missed that one and it looked like it had worn through and was arking. Thanks for the backgrond on the carbs, it makes a lot more sense now, but the carbs needed a good cleaning and it was easy relative cheap but probally not the problem. I am hoping the burnt wire on the stator was the problem and the stator is not the problem. Before it started this it was cutting in and out at low RPMS but when I put the gas to it the problem would go away, so I was thinking a dirty carb or cloged fuel line. Now I am thinking it was just more power going through a bad wire. I will be able to try again Friday with fixed wire, clean carbs, reeds inspected. If I still have the same problem then I will know it is electrical and I just don't have the funds to replace any of those parts right now.
  22. I heard there was 100 boats there today, I was fishing this with Johnny and Bud a few years ago when we strugling to get 6 or 7 boats. Wow
  23. I have pulled and cleaned all four carbs, will pick up the gaskets Monday, bottom two bowls were dry, top two were full. I acutally heard a pop when I first blew out the bottom carb. Thinking about replacing fuel lines to the carbs, but they look good, seems like extra work just for a piece of mind. It's not hard to get the carbs off and clean, will let you know how they go back on.
  24. That tail spinner looks a lot like a little George and I don't see where an old fashion little george wouldn't work as well.I still throw those through schooling fish and vertical fish tree tops with little georges along with jigging spoons. I think the leason to learn is to move away from the shore line when the sun comes out and get itno those deep trees. Most fisherman you see that boat 4 fish in the early morning on wiggle warts will keep beating the shoreline all day.
  25. Castmasters start thier tournaments 13 March, don forget to spring foward.I won't have the funds to fish this one again this year. Good luck to all of those who do. Castmaster's link
