  1. Hello, I am posting this in "Introduce Yourself" because this is my first New Topic. I was born and raised in North County St. Louis. I have an old Ouachita bass boat that I tow to Mark Twain Lake and LOZ once a year and put it in the Mississippi a few times each year. A buddy of mine has 94 acres in Southeast Missouri and I will be heading there this weekend. We typically fish the Castor River from Hidden Valley. Now I learned from the Conservation Atlas of the existence of an area called Iron Bridge Access. It is on Bear Creek. Can anyone tell me something about this? According the MDC it has a population of smallmouth and goggle-eye. My father-in-law gave me his fly-rods and tackle before he moved into a retirement community. I had hoped to tell him the story of catching some fish but he passed away shortly thereafter. I have no experience with fly-fishing (although my technique in the front yard is flawless, in my opinion) so what is good advice for sticking some goggle-eyes?
  2. That is a good idea KC.....since you-all would have lost that World Series without him.
  3. I enjoyed reading this. I would like to know more about the Caldwell Cable Ferry that uses the current as power.
  4. Whenever I read stories like this I wonder if this is the result of stupidity or can something like this happen to everyone. It seems you hear about something like this every month.
  5. This might be paranoia but I have, lately, been concerned that I might walk up on somebody poaching on public property and immediately becoming a witness.
  6. I had opportunity to fish an un-fished farm pond about twenty years ago. It was full of hand size bluegill but skinny bass that had their head too close to their tail. The bluegill were excellent. They were a pale color of pink and orange that I have seen no where else. We did eat well for a few days. Maybe a bass like that is waiting for me in the next farm pond.
  7. River Hills Traveler had an article in February on Ardent Reels made here in Missouri. Does anyone have any experience with them?
  8. I came upon some barbed wire on the Castor River a few years back and it wasn't there the next year. I remember there was a womans' swimming suit stuck on it -- It is good to know people are still having fun.
  9. In the Missouri Conservationist magazine a few months ago was an article on downloading GPS coordinates of crappie beds into a GPS. You might not catch fish but you, at least, have a plan. If you don't catch fish then you know not to do that, again. I managed to download the spots into my GPS but have yet to get the opportunity to try it out -- dad-burnit!
