I've been down there, but never any luck...but it's a nice walk and pretty water...I'm liking the Barclay area more and more...especially in the winter months...less snakey...

...I caught 4 trout today in 4 hours on the Niangua...it was a GREAT day...and about what I have averaged over the years...

...went this morning...water was perfect...caught 2 at the Hwy. 64 access and 2 more at Barclay...it wasn't easy...

Bennett Access is great wading, but this time of year on weekends it gets busy...it has about a 1/4 mile of easily wadeable water. Barclay has less fishable water, but there is one good run just upstream from the parking lot...it's always better in the cooler weather...from my experience, the fish don't mind the floaters as long as they are just paddling and floating and not frothing up the water...I may go down tomorrow and report back...

Im headed up that way today for a look around...I was there Thursday, and it was up a little, 500cfs, and running pretty clear...nice floating conditions, but a little to much water for me to fish with ease...should be perfect next week...

I need to try something...Bluegill are killing me and so are the Drum. The Walleye seem to have slowed down, but still are there...May try again Sunday...

...I,m erring to the side of caution...Hard hat and Safety Goggles from now on for me...

...caught one Walleye in 15' of water and fished all the way to 25' and didn't catch any more...Drum were biting...caught 3...bass were surfacing all afternoon and I caught 4 or 5 of them all between 12 and 15 inches...little bit of rain, but otherwise a great late afternoon on the lake...

I'll be out there too...I'm starting about 15' and work my way out...

...now I see the river has risen...maybe next week...

I have fished with barbless hooks in Canada, and I can't think of a single time I lost solely because of barbless hooks. I probably use barbless about 80% of the time now, only using barbed hooks when crappie fishing, when I know I will be keeping some....Also, I've never heard of G and R, so maybe that can answer some questions...

...if the creeks don't rise, I may give it a try on Tuesday...I'll give my thoughts then...I haven't been on the river since March...

In all my years of fishing, about 50, I have never stuck a hook up to the barb in any body part...Very lucky I'm sure...I probably just jinxed myself...

Also, I don't know your mode of transportation, but we always fly to Vegas and rent a car from there. That way, you can experience the desert, and it really isn't that long of a drive to SD. Also, you can get cheap rooms in Vegas if you shop around. We just paid about $35 a night at The Quad, and flights to Vegas from Bentonville are very reasonable. If you have never been to California, I am sure you will love it. I, personally, have not spent much time on the coast. I lived on both sides of the Sierras in the "foothills". The California I know and love are so much different from what most people think it is....peaceful and quiet...

Yosemite. Head that way and the family will love it too. The park can get crowded, but rarely anyone fishing, and the best is just outside the park. The Merced river is great. Lots of "torpedo" type Rainbows. They ate me up last summer. Took me a while to adjust to there fighting tactics. they just seemed really fast and jumped all the time. It's a beautiful river. Also, Kings Canyon/Sequoia national Parks are great. and MUCH less crowded, and almost as beautiful. the Kings River is tough to fish because of its strong currents, but the fish are there. Have fun.
