  1. My brother has U.S. Cellular and it works well down there too, but my AT&T is useless. It doesn't even search, just says no service. Guess its good if you want to get away from phone calls, though.
  2. Sounds like you had a round with Murphy's Law. Murphy and I get together quite a bit also. :-)
  3. Had the most luck on olive marabou jigs when spin fishing and olive woolly buggers when fly fishing.
  4. Our group had an awesome time Saturday. Most everyone caught fish, some more than others. There are a lot of fish in the river. Probably the most I've seen in the lower part of zone 2 in a while that I can remember. A lot of small fish, but there are several nice ones hanging out there too. Good luck to all.
  5. Yeah, when that thing hit, he took off straight up river. The drag was singing! Don't know how long it took to get him in, but it was a while. Took me forever just to lip him once he was wore out enough to bring him in close. I didn't have my net with me. I just new my line was going to wear out on the eye before I got him in. I usually retie every five trout or so, when using 2 lb. line, but this thing put it through the work of a lot more than 5 trout!
  6. The first park to your right as you are heading down the Dam turnoff.
  7. Wayne, I caught the fish below Tenkiller Dam near the park.
  8. Caught my first striper the other evening and wasn't even fishing for them. Was using a marabou jig and he nailed it. Quite a fight on 2 lb. line and an ultralight rig! He weighed 6 lbs. Had one other on, roughly the same size, but the hook pulled out before I got him in. Caught several trout also, but this thing made my evening. P.S. - Just wondering also if anyone has heard any info on the water problem lately? I hope they get things worked out and our summer isn't ruined if the lack of rain keeps up. I just began fishing here this year. Lived within 15 miles for a long long time and never tried it until this year. I've just always fished Missouri. Been having a blast close to home now, though! Good luck to all.
  9. Thanks Tim. Heading up there with our church's Men's Group this weekend (the one I had talked to you guys about before). I hope I can show them a good time. Many are first time trout fishermen, so it will be an experience for them! Good luck.
  10. Beautiful fish, congratulations!
  11. My family and I were able to go over to Branson this past weekend. Got to do a little fishing while we were there. I am mainly a jig fisherman using marabou jigs and 2 lb. line, but do a little fly fishing also. Jig fished Saturday and caught quite a few. A lot of nice fish in there! Fly fished Sunday and caught several also, but the real fun was night fishing! I've always heard and read about it, but never done it. I fished Sunday night from about 11:00pm to 2:00am. (my wife was worried about me down there after dark or I would have stayed longer). Don't know if anyone else has that problem? Haha! There were two others on the water down from outlet 1 a ways for an hour or so and then I was a loner after that. I fished mainly above outlet 1, but went to outlet 2 later. I did better in the upper area, so I came back above outlet 1 and finished the night off. Caught around 25 and had a blast. It's amazing the difference in size of fish caught in the daytime and at night! Went back Monday night and fished from about 10:00pm to 2:00am and had the water to myself the whole time! Caught around the same number of fish, but got to see a nice brown around 7-8 pounds just out from me once when I had my light on and was releasing a fish. Would love to catch him, get measurements, release and have a replica made!!!! You all have an awesome place up there and I hope to be able to come back around the July 4th week if my job permits. Good luck.
  12. She is proud of it. I watched the fish swim up there and hit her lure and I was holding my breath until I got it netted! We are going to get it mounted for her. Her big sister has one mounted that is roughly the same size, which she caught at the Kid's Fishing Day several years ago, so now they will both have one. You never know if they will ever catch one bigger at Roaring River or not. I have fished there since I was a kid beginning in the early 80's and my biggest is 5.6 pounds. I know others catch some bigger ones, but I guess I'm just not that good! This is a great thing for these kids though, and I'm glad they do it for them.
  13. Had a great time at the Kid's Fishing Day this weekend. Lot's of good fish in the river for the kid's. Crowd wasn't too bad and weather was great. A whole lot of fish in there for the fishermen this week! My daughter caught her largest one yet, 3.4 lbs.
  14. Thank you for the insight! I really appreciate all the info you give us. Looking forward to those articles!

  16. Thanks for the tips Stump Bumper! Not sure when I'll get to come over again, but I believe I'll have to try it on my own again before long.
  17. It's been a while since I've been on the striper forum. I tried striper fishing several times last year and the year before at Beaver, but never done any good, so I just gave up. I have went out with Ed Chapko a couple times since and it is roughly the same expense (if I have a partner) as me pulling the boat over from Tahlequah, Ok. Lately I have resigned to trout fishing, which is something I can do! I've been reading all the information Feathers and Fins has put out and it has given me the fever to try it on my own again! Even though you catch some with a guide, there is still nothing like the feeling of accomplishment when you do something on your own. A question I have, that I haven't seen addressed is: When trolling (shallow or deep) should you use your motor if it is a 2 stroke or your trolling motor? I know Ed trolls in the summer using the boat motor, but his is a 4 stroke. Always heard these fish are jumpy, so I am wondering? Last year I tried trolling umbrella rigs using my boat motor and didn't do any good, then went out with Ed later the same day and bam! we were catching fish doing everything exactly as I had been and in the same places! I gather from Feathers and Fins info that drifting is good also. Can anyone give me some specifics on trolling or drifting? I certainly appreciate the help. Thanks so much for all the info for us newbies to Striper fishing. If there was just a Striper Fishing For Dummies book!!!!
  18. Sounds great Tim! It's been a while since I've been up there, so I'm really looking forward to it. Good luck to all.
  19. Thanks. I will run it by all of them and see what they think.
  20. I might get irritated and lose my own soul in the process FishinCricket!!!!! lol Sorry us Okies and Arkies swarm you guys. I have met some great people up there over the years though and then some not so great. Most of these guys haven't fished much for trout, so I may just bring them another weekend. Thanks guys.
  21. Here a few weeks ago I got back on the site after seeing the site had been updated. I was one of the ones having problems before with it wiping out my computer everytime I would log on. Everything works fine now, though, except I had forgotten my password, so I emailed for a new one. Upon receiving it I logged in and updated my password, but when I tried to log in a day or two later my password was not accepted. I went thru the whole process again and upon returning to the site again a day or two later, I was not able to log in again. I can't remember for sure, but I know I tried this at least two if not three times. Right now I am just having to use the last numbers(password) you sent me to log in temporarily for my password. Kind of a pain though since it is so many numbers/letters. If you could help me out I would sure appreciate it. Thanks.
  22. I guess by crowded, I mean what is it comparable to opening day crowds? Thanks for the info on the resort.
  23. Morning guys, this is the first time I have posted in this section. Mainly been posting in the Beaver Lake section before. I am pretty familiar with Roaring River (was halfway raised there back in the 80's and first couple years of the 90's). My grandpa and grandma used to take my brother and I up there on opening day, spring break, and weeks at a time in the summer. Memories were made that will last a lifetime. You might remember us Tim, but that was along time ago, back when you worked at the lodge. Just a couple of blonde headed boys from Oklahoma who loved to fish, trailing along behind grandpa, who, God rest his soul, was our hero! My brother and I are coming down for opening day and a couple more days this week to fish and reminisce. Both of us have just been to busy for a few years now to get up there much. I'll quit rambling and get to the point here. I was wondering if the free fishing days are really crowded up there? I am the leader of our Men's Ministry group at our church and that Saturday just happens to fall right in line with an open weekend we have. Was looking at maybe bringing between 10 - 15+ men up there, but wasn't sure about the crowd? Do they stock the river even though no tags are bought? Is it any more crowded than a normal Saturday? Saving money is not the reason for that date, although that is nice, so if you guys think another weekend would be better let me know. Also, where is a reasonable place to lodge that many men? Thanks for any info.
  24. I have 4 Walker Deeper Divers for sale. These are similar to Dipsey Divers, but better in my opinion. They are used to get your bait down deep while trolling. Great for stripers or walleye. These are size 107mm and colors are Blue Dolphin and Green Dolphin (2 of each). Two of them are brand new and the other 2 have only been used once. After using these I decided this model dives too deep for what I like, so that is why I am selling. I paid $11.99 each for them, but will sell all 4 for $20 shipping included. See attached photo.
