In the year 2007:
Deaths by accidental discharge of firearm: 721
About 110 people die every day in a car accident in the US, that means somebody dies about every 13 minutes.
So it's a "needs" thing...are you the one to decide whether or not I need something? If so what do I "need"...do I need a house as big as the one I am in? Do I need a car that goes 100 mph? Do I need to catch and release?
And how would you suggest we handle this? Legislation? Make people pass an IQ test? Make every gun owner appear before a comity that will decide if they are "fit" to carry?
The only case this story makes is...yes indeed some people are stupid.
Which is the same as someone not having control over their car, knife, emotions, life, anger, airplane (if they pilot), boat,...ect...You can't eliminate the bozo factor.
Sounds like you are talking more about personal responsibility or lack there of....rather then gun regulations.
1. I don't go to bars....because it's against the law to carry there. Plus i don't really like them.
2. You believe that MOST people who have CCW shouldn't...ok...it's a belief..not a fact. Your entitled to it.
3. 80%? A number you pulled out of thin air? Unless you count talking about it here openly...I never tell anyone about it in a personal everyday sort of way. The ones who announce...why? Your guess is as good as mine. Probably the same reason why people do burn outs with their cars....
4. I am also annoyed at the number of DUI charges against... high school teachers, priest, lawyers, doctors, politicians, and plumbers....another personal responsibility thing.
5. Open carry? Not a good idea...unless you want to be the first one shot if someone does decide that they want to do harm.
6. If you can tell me the exact time and place that my life might be in danger...i will gladly not go there. Until then...i will be prepared. plus...Fear has nothing to do with why I carry...nothing. I don't ware a safty belt because I fear a crash every time I get in the car....i just know it's a possibility that I am prepared for...in the best way I can.
I would be happy to debate this further....as long as we remain respectful. Are you saying you are against me having the right to carry? Or are you just against guns all together? or is this a personal discussion with Cricket?
Couldn't help but ask...can you tell me what's the difference between having an armed campus policemen or an armed civilian? Besides the blue costume and propensity to be slow and fat?
Funny what we different people deem as safe or unsafe...I would never think about building a gas/fire projectile launching cannon. You would never think about CCing a firearm.
And that's what it really comes down to right? It is a right, an unalienable right to protect yourself and your family by the means you choose. I appreciate the dialog. I wasn't really expecting to change you mind or anything. Caring a gun was not something I jumped into...I researched the subject for over a year before pulling the trigger..excuse the pun.
Maybe...no one will know if having a gun would have helped the situation. Although...if someone is shooting back at an attacker...I can see how this might slow him down a bit or even put him down before he had a chance to kill 33. Look at the facts of the case before jumping to any conclusions....you will find plenty of opportunities where an armed person could have took advantage of and ended the whole ordeal.
ya...didn't catch any humor.
You choose to look at the millions of kids that are safe at college, I choose to look at the 33 that could have been saved.
Well heck...most survived? No need for a gun there...I mean come on MOST survived.
Good grasp of the obvious...yes there needs to be a gun present in order for someone to get shot. Yet...for someone to end up murdered you only need people present.
Locked doors and an alarm...good....I hope you back up that alarm with a gun.
thank you safety sally.
Fist fights are easily avoided. The denial that evil exist does not make evil disappear. Lightning strike protection? If there was such a product that I could carry with me when out on the water...I guess I would....i have had some close encounters with lightning. Snake bite kit...check.
I am having a hard time understanding your point here....how would one know if a gun could have prevented a murder? On the river...by a stranger. Are you looking for the "thank God I had my gun or I would have been killed" story or the "if only they were armed they could have lived" story...I doubt you will find any written from any news source.
You see the funny thing about people after they are murdered is they can't really tell you their story....
Don't blame OTF...I was kinda poking at him. He isn't against guns...he just doesn't understand why anyone would carry...I was like that once upon a time. Then I changed my mind for a number of reasons.....I started to hash it out with myself right after the Virginia tech shootings.
You see...I have no delusions about winning a quick draw with some punk that pulls a gun on me....nor do I believe that there is a boggieman around every corner. All I do know this...I never want to be place in the situation where my life or my families life is threatened and not be able to do a dam thing about it.
If you think it can't happen to you...think again.
Correct, It is my right. Furthermore...I don't worry. It sounds like you have this vision in your head that because I carry a gun...I must be constantly looking over my shoulder wondering who's going to be the one that makes the wrong move. I assure you that is not the case.
Just what kind of "tragic accident" are you talking about? An accidental discharge that ends up killing some passerby or friend? Is this the kind of accident where the gun jumps out of its holster, flips the safety off and fires a round indiscriminately?
