  1. Good morning, gang. Was wondering if anyone could provide links or books that would give me more information about Uncle Homer Circle and Glen Lau? These guys are true bass angling legends, and not in the tournament sense. They both seem to have a deep appreciation for the conservation and education of bass fishing. Just thought I would throw this question up on the board. Tight Lines! Tom
  2. Al - very cool stuff. Dumb Question: are you not fishing in the Ozarks?
  3. Mallard Lake is better known as Creve Coeur lake
  4. Awesome information, guys. In regards to Shaky Head: do you use a spinning rig or baitcaster? I've heard light line is the way to go. Thanks!
  5. Hey guys. Anybody out there using a Drop Shot rig? If yes, what rod/reel/line/tackle set-up do you go with? What conditions do find the rig successful? I've heard rocky bottom, clear lakes is the place. Any help is greatly appreciated. ditto for a Shaky Head Rig? I've heard cold, pressured water is the place. Again, all inputs are welcome and greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tom
  6. for the sake of imitating baitfish, threadfin or gizzard shad baits will do just fine.
  7. I was specifically interested in the bait fish. Gizzard and Threadfin Shad it is. Thanks guys!
  8. All, Tom Tricamo here. Was wondering if anyone knew the specific species of fish MDC stocks at LOZ? Trout? Shad? I spent the better part of my last fishing trip of last season throwing a crank bait in and around a school of some bait fish back in a flat up near Horseshoe Bend. I was catching lots of decent hybrids or stripers (don't know which one) and a couple nice sized bucket mouths. Anyway, I was wanting to know specifically what type of fish are stocked at LOZ as I prepare for the upcoming season. Thanks, Tom
  9. Rather coincidentally, Rick Clunn's segment, the Art of Angling, on the Bass Pro Shop's "The Bass Pros" show on Versus has been replaced with a segment with KVD.
  10. Maybe these rivers in Southern MO are the place to be for walleye? Check out that old dude setting the hook; what a legend!
  11. This man is talking truth! I'm hoping to acquire a boat in the next two-four years. Like cars (and just about every other mechanical device), a boat requires a certain maintenance regiment. It isn't a mystery. If you stick to the maintenance plan and maintain a clean and orderly boat, its going to start up every time and do what you need it to do (read: get you to where the fish are biting!). By the by, I'm 28 and firm believer in this MO. Hell, I have two cars that are over 100k miles that sound like well oiled sewing machines because of this mantra. Of course, my father may be Gary's age and has instilled this discipline within my brothers and I. My only concern would be buying a boat used that someone has neglected.
  12. Hap-hazardly caught a walleye last season (in Sept) near the Hawaiian Island Ferry Crossing up in North Shore. Was using a texas-rigged, 6" Chartreuse Zoom Lizard on braid; was in very, very choppy water right off the main channel. Conditions were sunny, warm, and windy. I've always heard chop is where you catch a walleye. It was, may I say, the ugliest fish I have ever caught.
  13. Gents, Long time reader, first time poster. Up until now, I've predominately fished Largemouth Bass at Lake of the Ozarks. However, as I delve deeper into fishing in the beautiful state of MO, it becomes abundantly clear that there are many more places to fish and other species to attempt to catch. That said, I've recently turned my attention to Smallies. It seems as though Ozark streams are the place to be. And we can could argue for hours about the "correct" rod/reel combo to use for Smallies. But what about lures? Assume one were to use a spinning reel; what type of lures would you recommend? Brian Sloss over at Eleven Point Canoe Rental had recommended Maribou Jigs for winter time Smallie Action. I have heard small tube jigs work as well. Any other recommendations? Respectfully, Tom Tricamo
  14. Greetings all! Tom Tricamo here from St. Louis. I'm very happy to have found this forum. I predominately fish Lake of the Ozarks for Largemouth Bass with my good friend and business partner and his father. Used to fish a ton as a youth and have recently "rediscovered" the joy of fishing. I firmly believe that the beautiful state of MO provides ample opportunity to get out, enjoy nature with family and friends, and experience some of the best fishing this country has to offer. I joined this forum to talk fishing, learn from some more experienced anglers, and learn better ways to conserve our natural areas for generations to come. Thanks, Tom Tricamo
