  1. And with that I also have to agree. Despite the morality of the issue, I think more importantly Missouri residents would not want to allow something that will open it up to every pond and natural stream in your state. We have been faced with this same proposal in Arkansas the last two elections. Just this year a gentleman from Texas proposed Casinos in several locations here..one of them would have been in Boone County at the Taney County line. He has since quit taking signatures on a petition, I presume because of the negative pr it was generating, and announced that he was not pursuing it at this time. Dano
  2. I would say that boat would be overkill in the upper reaches. A typical rig is a 20 ft jon with a 9.9 to 15. You need something that will not draw much water...Dano
  3. I think if you will do some checking that the Indian casinos or bingo parlors do not have to fork over tax dollars to the locals or state. I think they keep the whole honey pot. So unless they are just making a generous monetary contribution to the local community, I would say the reservation is getting the loot. Dano
  4. I would have to agree with Wayne. When casinos came to Tunica, the taxes collected provided more law enforcement jobs, equipment, administrative personnel, and large city and county law enforcement buildings. I have mixed reactions and eelings as to what gambling does or does not do for a community. On the positive side there is a great economic impact and on the down a severe social impact....Dano
  5. Oh....that's good TB Dano
  6. Jimmy T is back from Alaska. He got back today, and certainly one of the best on the White. I would also check out John Berry from our board here too. John knows what he is doing and well respected. I think its www.berrybrothersguides.com I am not sure if Jeremy Hunt is guiding on the White right now. All that have been mentioned are excellent and you couldn't go wrong. Dano
  7. I prefer to fish some of my olive soft hackles dry and it seems to work for me. Dano
  8. Wow, Phil now that is one neat collection...I wish I had kept all the ones I have had over the years... I could not find anything about the old Arkansas Stamps other than the one I posted at the start of the thread. Here is a link to a Mo artist that designed a couple. Go to this site and click on stamps. http://www.eileenmelton.net/ Dano
  9. Thanks Champ, those I want to save...Dano
  10. Bill that has always been my attitude...high water I just don't go because I typically like to wade. I have fished the White in boats and found fish. I would agree with Ken that you can catch a few along the banks in weed beds and slower water. Actually Ken I think once when you and I went you did fish scuds on two and caught some between outlet 1 and 2? It's got to be an art, but like I said, I am not sure I have the confidence to catch them then, which of course translates to not having much luck...Dano
  11. Any truth to rumors that the place is settling quick and some of the brick and facade are cracking too?
  12. I think I will do some searching. I hope Al chimes in here and tells us the story of that 1991 Poster and stamp from Ark. Wonder ifhe still has prints available...Dano
  13. Ken I have just never had much luck on high water so I think that translates to a low level of confidence on my part. I need to sit down and pick your brain or I need to go with you someday on one or two gennies to see how to do it. Dano
  14. Welcome Moonshiner, you will find alot of friendly people here with lots of answers and suggestions. Just post away...Dano
  15. I have to agree with Wayne. My shallow nylon net seems faster. You got to watch for this little ones wanting to jump out though.. .Dano
  16. Sure you can use conventional tackle during generation. During that period yesterday when they ran one generator I noticed a couple of boat fishermen using spinning gear and catching fish. As to what bait they were using I was not able to tell. It appeared to be some type of stick bait. When generation begins, such as with one or two gennies and I am wading, I typically switch to a wooly bugger, but I personally never do well during generation other than the occasional fish. You wrote that when generation starts it doesn't end for a long time. This is the case usually on the White or Norfork. On Taney the pattern of late (except most of last week) has been to turn on one unit for approximately an hour. If you are fishing Upper Taney it doesn't take long for the water to recede. Dano
  17. Fished Rocking Chair this afternoon. Just as I put one boot in the water the horn blew. They ran one for about an hour. After the water came back down, I ended up with a few on olive soft hackles size 18. All were rainbows and dinks...But it was a perfect day for getting out....Dano
  18. Thanks for the pictures Phil
  19. You da man John...braving the hot, hot sun .... now that is dedication
  20. I knew they had moved, just didn't know if the Coalition was still organized. Well Gene and his group will do a yeoman's job then. Dano
  21. Shawn I may very well be mistaken. There is actually a species Lake Trout. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_trout AGFC may have stocked these instead of rainbows. Maybe the locals were calling them rainbows. I need to find out, I am curious now. Anyway, I am not sure any of those big boys are still around. Dano
  22. Shawn, they used to stock rainbow in the lake near Bull Shoals dam. I remember that guides would take a whole pontoon boatload of people out at night to fish for them. You had to fish many feet deep to get down to the cold water. I think for all purposes the walleye used them for feed and they are not stocked anymore.. As to why they were called Lake trout I don't know. I think they took on a real bland color for one thing....Dano
  23. John I agree with you. The phenomenal growth of people, infrastructure and development in Baxter and surrounding counties is due mostly to the recreational value of the area. Is there still a Crooked Creek group leading the fight against this, as when Dave and Emily Whitlock were involved? Dano I think it was called the Crooked Creek Coalition. John, you may have even written an article about it. I think I have read about it in your archives on your site. This same gravel miner was at the heart of the controversary back in 1999 if I recall correctly....Dano

  25. Shawn They are adding Lake Trout...Dano
