  3. Outside of just following the progress of the Branson landing project. Tell me what enviornmental statements were issued prior to the letting of the projects. How did Missouri officials, from conservation, water quality and game and fish respond to it? Was there any protest before the project was started? Dano
  4. Wayne I do, it seems the medium is to wide. Dano
  5. Do you mix your dubbing by hand or in a blender?
  6. I actually voted for size..but I am beginning to wonder more if it may not be the most important. Doesn't it make sense that when trout for instance are feeding on scuds or sowbugs that there are different sizes of them being taken from the bottom or fish are seeing various sizes floating by? The fish are not going to encounter just a size 18, or a size 16 as they wait..Think about it like a crowded sidewalk, we see all sizes of folks walking by. IMHO they are feeding on all sizes, its just opportune what they hit. I also don't believe that fish are keying in on specific colors, only shades of colors. So maybe shape is the most important..the fish, in its infinite wisdom, which is very little, says to itself...now that looks like something I have eaten before. I know very little about entomology, or the cycle of these bugs, so I may be completely off base here. Now, a hatch may totally require the proper size. When there is a midge hatch, are all of the emerging insects the same size?....Dano
  7. Some of my candid pictures with descriptions from this years Sowbug Roundup in Mountain Home, Arkansas...Dano http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p...26551&members=1
  8. Brian Jeff told me that was a one of a kind it was model #1, the rest will not have wood handles unless one asked for it. I haven't cast the new generation of blanks from Dorber yet. Just didn't have the time on Saturday.
  9. I have tied up some olive ones with olive v rib...haven't fished them, so I don't know if they are going to be effective. I wish someone made a fine uv dubbing? Or maybe somebody does. Dano
  10. Brian Good to see you and your family again, always a pleasure. You know Dorber may have something with that new weave process. Dano
  11. Matt, welcome to the forum. I am also from Harrison.
  12. Like John said, get the vise and tools first. Don't buy a kit. To much unneeded materials. Go to Lilley's or one of the other shops, and tell them you are new to tieing. Start with a woolie booger (a great all around bug) tell them to sell you the materials for an olive woolie for instance. They will get what you need, and I bet will show you how to tie one right quick. There are step by step turorials all over the internet, including this forum site. Learn to tie the woolie, then start the process over learning a new fly. I say start with the woolie booger, because its been my experience it teaches you almost all of the basics in one fly. You will be able to tie up a dozen the first night. Captain if you are not around here, find a shop near you. Also a good source is a local fly fishing club....Good luck....Dano
  13. John Sorry you can't make it down to the bug! Dano
  14. Here's the story http://www.baxterbulletin.com/apps/pbcs.dl.../603150331/1002 Dano
  15. I agree Brian Shape is important too.... You mean you start with your largest and go to the smallest? You never fish a size 18 midge? Maybe that is why my midgin is terrible....Dano
  16. Steve, Same set up I use..except I haven't used the amnesia yet, just some heavier mono. Are you using thread or mono furled leaders? Dano
  17. Phil, Was it last year or year before they changed the regs on trout permits..I think it used to be that if you were not keeping trout from the dam down you didn't neet a stamp too.
  18. Is there a dough ball fly? Dano
  19. Claud Come on down, the fishing is great in Taneycomo for trout. Dano

  21. Great Report Tim, keep em coming...Dano
  22. Got lucky here...the storm that came out of Ok into Benton County then headed my way ended up moving into Missouri...not good for them...at one time I think there were at least 8 twisters on the ground..that had to be around 11pm.. At 2 am it hit here, high winds, rain and hail. No damage that I can tell. Dano
  23. hawghunter, if you were here today you would have 80 degree temps.... Welcome and have a safe trip down this way. Dano
  24. Riverrat Sometimes, but it depends on water levels and temps in the local rivers. I have never had much luck during extremely cold temps for smallies. I think they just go deep, don't feed much thereby not very agressive. If I do fish for them I would use a heavily weighted streamer, fished very very slow on the retrieve. Good topic though. I would love to hear what others say about winter fishing for smallies... I am sure I am just not as proficient in the winter, and not as confident of catching them...Dano
  25. Never saw the FD there Brian...but you are right no kinda hail is good for anykind of metal...
