  11. Al, living only about 7 miles North of Dogpatch a friend an I spent some time trying to track down any Newton County links to Middleton. We were never able to find anyone who knew a young Harry or any relatives associated. I believe Harry probably visited the area, maybe even the theme park, and used his experiences and people he met to illustrate the book. I do believe it was just fictional and Starlight Creek was just a compilation of the many places he had wet a line, which takes nothing away from the book as it's one of my all time favorites. Dano
  12. Counselor it appears that if you are floating "on a journey" you are concerned about the "perils" bears and or pirates then you would not be in violation. Of course the "National Park" rules if applicable to the Buffalo (which so far I have not been able to determine, even by asking a park ranger) would apply.
  13. The creek that feeds the lake at Dogpatch and runs past the old mill is called Mill Creek. It was believed to be the mythical Starlight Creek in Harry Middleton's The Earth is Enough. Mostly discounted now. Dano
  14. Absolutely the best advice and no doubt the most effective. Good call Al. Dano
  15. There is nothing wrong with using an indicator for this method. One technique that will help your nymph ride high is to grease about a couple of feet of the end of the tippet to help it float in the film keeping the bug up. I use mucilin. Dano
  16. When "fishing the film" you are in effect fishing dry or albeit just under the surface. I cannot think the last time I used a bobber in this scenario but you certainly can if you wish. I watch for quick surface disturbances near where I think the fly will be and make a quick hook set. Its just a matter of timing. Dano
  17. Phil How many units were on at the time and did he say what fly he was using? That thing is a beaut.
  18. Olive, brown and a variegated gray color wooley was good this past weekend. I would have them in size 10, 8 and 6. Light Olive, Orange and Black soft hackles have always worked for me on Taney. Try, 18's, 16, 14's. I typically use a 9ft leader and 4ft of 6x tippet for soft hackles. 4ft of 4x fishing wooley buggers. Dano
  19. Here's an article that might be of interest to you...Dano http://ozarkanglers.com/index.php?option=c...0&Itemid=99
  20. Yes, Phil, Marsha and the crew went above and beyond the call on this one. What friends they are and always there for a kind word despite the pressure. The Vets and those family member with them were great folks and I like Zach made new friends which I hope to stay in touch with. But on a more somber note....I was amazed at some of the stories they told about their experiences ... and more importantly their fight to get the benefits and help that some are NOT getting from the government. Apparently some care is slow, there are mountains of paperwork involved and few people to help vets maneuver through the system. Dano
  21. Obviously the Ghost Angler is not unique to the NFOW....he likes to fish Norfork also. I saw him early one morning below the handicapped access as he made his way down to the C and R area. This was taken years ago. Dano
  22. Welcome, and many of his share you addiction....glad to have you. Dano
