Thanks Stoneroller!! I have never tried Catfish Charlie before. Ive seen it, but never bought it. When I was a teen, I use to use Bee Jay...not sure if that is still around or not anymore. Your right about the water level.....it probably is low. Compared to last year, this has been a dry spring. Thanks again.

Good afternoon everyone. I’m going to Mark Twain to do a little cat fishing this weekend with the kids and was wanting to get into some cats!!!! Typically in the past, I have had good luck using raw shrimp. This time I bought a jar of Hog Wild dip bait. Thought I would throw both. Have any of you used Hog Wild? Are there any other baits that you prefer? It would be nice to get a couple keepers for a fish fry. Also, is there anyone familiar with Mark Twain that would like to share where there is a nice place to bank fish? I really appreciate all the information that everyone shares on this site. Thanks!! Jack

Man that was a great post!! Thanks for sharing your weekend with us. Dry fly fishing is by far the most rewarding experience in my opinion. I could do that all day..if the fish would let me..lol!!! -

Ok, Mark Twain Lake isnt exactly an Ozark lake but I know there are a few of you who know a little something about the lake. I am going camping there at the state park and Im wanting to do some fishing with my kids. Can anyone suggest any good locations to fish? I don’t have a boat so it will have to be bank fishing. We can fish for anything so please give me your recommendations. We will even take our fly rods to use as well. Thanks for your help!!!! Jack

Boy, sure is tuff to pass this up. I wish I was in the market for a new rod. I believe the rod alone goes for somewhere around 170 to 200. Your letting go of alot for 100. I cant beleive no one has jumped at this. Good luck selling it!!!

Bought 2 TFO Bug Launcher 5wt rods for my kids. They have had a blast with them this year. They are really nice rods. I currently use a Sage and a St. Croix. If I were in the market to purchase a new rod for myself….I would definitely check out the TFO line.

Good morning everyone!! I am looking to buy a new fillet knife and wanted some ins and outs on what to look for in a decent knife. Are the expensive ones really better than the cheap ones? I am bound and determined to learn how to fillet and would like a knife that will last many years. Thanks for you help! Jack

Good morning Norsemen, well...how did you do? Did you have any luck at Dewey Short or did you find another productive place? Im like you, all I can do is bank fish. Any information from fellow bank fisherman will help me out next year when I come down to TR. Hope you had a great vacation!!!

Its great to be able to get the first fish on film. And, a nice catch as well!!!

All of mine were caught between 8 and 11 AM. My daughter caught hers around 7 in the evening. I was fishing the worms Texas riged, slowly across the bottom. Same with the jig. Be prepaird to loose a lot in the rocks. I went to Bass Pro and picked up a few more jigs because I kept loosing them. Sure was fun though. Good luck!!

Norseman, I just got home yesterday from the State park. Had a great time. I dont have a boat either, all bank fishing for me as well. I fished from the Dewey Short Visitors Center. Far back left corner behind the visitor center right by the last bench. Here are a few pics of the Bass we caught. I was using a jig/pig crawler and a plactic worm in black and dark purple. PB and J on the jig and green punpkin. The smallies seemed to hit the jig and Large mouth seemed to prefer the worm. The water droped quite a bit the week we were there and it sounds like it will keep droping. Wish I was still there. Love Table Rock.

Sounds like you had a great time. The possible tornado sounds a bit scary. How did they handle the evac.? Where did you go for cover?

Suggestions Needed For Bennett
Jack Hollister replied to Jack Hollister's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
Just wanted to give an update and say thanks for the info on where to fish. Everyone’s input made for a great weekend of fishing. Here are a few pics of my son’s first trout on his fly rod he got for Christmas. We have been working thru the winter practicing tying on flies, leaders, tippets and casting in the field across from our house. We also practiced during the spring at a local lake. That was a great learning experience for him. All the practice paid off when he hooked his first trout. He hooked it, landed it, placed it on his stringer and then cleaned it all by himself. The cleaning part shocked me. Of course, he had to use his new 2$ knife I bought him at the Bennett store. I think I was more excited for him than he was. Next is my daughters turn. She didn’t catch any this time, but we are going to Roaring River in a few weeks. Maybe that will be the place for her. Once again, thanks! This is a great group of people at OAF. -
Thanks for the tip! I'll have to try that.
-
Please do! I'll be going down the week of 27th. What is the best technique to use?

That does sound fun! How did you fish the wooly's? Did you use a strike indicator?
