Suggestions Needed For Bennett
Jack Hollister replied to Jack Hollister's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
Thanks for the info Pete. Is the spillway dam the tall dam where people stand on top of and fish away from the bridge? Im sorry, I dont know the names of the spots very well. Is there a map of the stream that shows the names of the spots and holes? This would be real helpful. Im going to look up Weavers shop on the net. Im sure they have a website. Once again, thanks Pete! Jack -
Good morning all! My family and I will be heading down to Bennett next weekend. I was looking for a good spot for my kids to fish. This will be their first time with their new flyrods from Christmas. They have been practicing thru the spring in the field across the street and at a local park pond. They are doing great but I wouldn’t want to put them to close to anyone. Im not real familier with Bennett. Is there a suitabel spot that’s not to deep, plenty of space and hopefully plenty of fish. I know…this place doesn’t exist..he,he!!! Thanks Guys!! Jack

Good morning everyone. I am heading down to St.Francois state park this weekend and was wondering if anyone has fished on the Big River at the park. Is the river wadeable in the park? I was wanting to fly fish but wasn’t sure what species of fish would be best to fish for. Any tips would be appreciated. I may just take all my fishing gear and try a little of everything. If it swims, I’ll try to catch it!!!! Thanks everyone!! Jack

I just checked the Missouri State Parks website and Montauk campground is temporarily closed due to area flooding. If anyone is planning on camping at the park, may want to check in advance. -
Anyone Camp At Montauk This Weekend 4-22-11
Jack Hollister replied to Jack Hollister's topic in Montauk State Park
Thanks guys for the replies. I hated to cancel but I guess that was the right decision. Glad to hear you had a good day on Thursday. Oh well, theres always next time. -
We had reservations at Montauk this weekend and canceled because of the rain and severe storms. I have to say, Im glad we did. I read in another post that there was an evacuation order that came around 4:15 am on Saturday morning. Did the campground flood? We would have been in loop 4. This is the first year that we made reservations to camp in April. And this is the reason (storms) why I have always wated until late May for our first outing. Crazy weather, hope everyone is ok who were hit hard by the storms. Jack

This is my son Nick who is also in fly rod training 101….Last night, at a lake in a local park, he had an absolute blast. He caught 15 fish, and let me tell ya, he counted each one out loud each time. A mix between crappie, bluegill and sunfish. He was using a copper john. Black ants are good choice to use as well. Have fun!!!

I'll go 6.99 lbs. I could use some new shades!!! -
I have also been looking for a place close by, (I live in North Jefferson Co.). I am wanting to get my kids out and practice with their new fly rods. Would like to catch some small bluegill or sunfish. Something easy to keep them entertained while learning how to use the rods. Where is Mallard Lake?

I have a 1961 Chevy Impala 2 door bubble top. This car was bought by my dad in Dec. of 1960. He worked at Fisher Body at the time it was built. He worked 2nd shift and had the choice for it to come down the line on 2nd shift so he could see it. My first car ride ever was in this car....it brought me home from the hospital when I was born. Later, when I was 16, I took my drivers test in it. Still have the car today. Lots of memmories. It doesnt run anymore. I keep saying, some day, I will get to restore it. Some day just never seems to come. But its something I could never part with. And yes....thats me and my sister in about 1969.

Fly Fishing Video....my Boys.
Jack Hollister replied to Brian Wise's topic in General Angling Discussion
You are a great father to 1, introduce your kids to fishing..2, take the time to teach them to fish..and 3, take the time to take them fishing. I wish all kids could have parents to give them the opportunity to experience life’s great adventures. Those days will be memories you kids will cherish for a lifetime. You can tell they are there for the love of fishing and not just there to please dad. Great job on raising two fine young men. Oh and great job on the video. -

On Thursday 12-30 I got home from work….opened the mailbox….and there it was. The new reel from Justin. I have to say…it is a nice reel. From just holding it in my hand…the reel is very smooth and the drag steps down nicely and is very smooth as well. I can’t wait to get some line on it and give it a try. Thank you very much Justin for the free reel!!!!!! -
That was a great present!!!! This will be a very happy new year as well!!!

Are these Trout Crack flys a common pattern that you can buy anywhere or are they made by an individual and sold by them. I would like to get a few myself. -

No....I dont think it will be here by Christmas. I havent heard from Justin since I sent him my email address...but thats ok, Im sure he will make good on his promotion. Im not the kind of person who expects anything from anybody. Especially for free!! I think this is a nice thing he is doing and by looks of older post..it appears that he has done this before for other people. My friend asked me this weekend if I received the reel yet...he is excited to see it as well. We are planning a trip to Canada and has thought about getting a bigger flyrod for the trip. So he may be in the market for a new outfit. Ill keep the forum posted. Thanks! Jack -
