  1. No gas is to darn expensive to roll the dice. I didn't know what road conditions were going to be like on Sunday after the four inches of snow in St. Louis. In hind sight it probably would have been OK. I'm going to try again on Friday or Saturday...work and weather permitting.
  2. Great report. Thanks for the pics.

    Fishing Report

Sounds like you caught a real keeper...and I'm not talking about the fish. Thanks for the report
  4. Oh the life of a project manager...I had a project blow up today so I can make it out tomorrow. I'm going to try Sunday instead. Anyone interested in going let me know.
  5. I don't know what the current reading is, but in the original case that started the legal precedent, navigable was for commercial use...specifically floating cut logs to a mill. I'm sure that has been modified over the years with new precedents.
  6. I was wondering that to. I'll let you know.
  7. I've been trying to find an indicator that works with my setup and abilities. I've tried them all. I found an article on making them at home. I didn't really like their instructions because they were still to big so I tweaked it a little bit. 1. Start with real small o-rings. I started with the second and third smallest I could find, but I think I could have gone smaller. 2. Then use midge flash or sheet foam. Cut the amount of midge flash you think you will need and/or just enough foam to fit in the o-ring. Slide the o-ring over a pair of forceps or small needle nose and grab the flash in the middle. Slide the foam in by hand. 3. On the flash, roll the o-ring over the flash to the middle and fold over. Simply fold the foam over. Then tightly wrap thread around the material and add a single drop of super glue on the thread on each side of the indicator. Trim the excess the line. Finally cut the foam as you see fit and trim the flash to the height you prefer. 4. I haven't tried them yet, but I don't know why they won't work. I'll report after my next trip. A final note, the article said to play with the size of the o-ring until you find one that won't slip.
  8. Yea, but it gives us an excuse to shop on your behalf for what we really want. What are friends for?
  9. Steady Chief, we will have to open a new thread for that kind of talk... GO KU
  10. If you can't find used: http://www.flyshack.com/DisplayItem3.aspx?ItemID=102440
  11. Is there a lawyer in the house...what the he!! does that mean.
  12. Anyone want to try out Mill Creek on Friday the 25th? I was going with a work buddy, but work got in the way.
  13. I would agree. I do not want to trespass because I believe farmers and landowners are less likely to give permission at a latter date. However, if the landowner is willing to walk to the stream side with a sidearm, why are they not willing to walkout with a can of purple spray paint. Let me know where your line is and I'll respect your wishes.
  14. I was going to try for smallmouth this summer...I'll have to remember that. Thanks.
  15. Wow. That is one nice fish. Thanks for the report and pic.
  16. The holes/runs I'm talking about are 3 or 5 feet wide and 4 to 6 feet long so there really is no "swing" to speak of. Basically, the holes are composed of a riffle pinched up against a bank with a washed out root ball of a medium to large tree. If you start from below, the line will wrap around a root, and if you start from the side the fly isn't really in the water long enough to impart good action or you scare the fish. I'm wanting to stand above the hole in the riffle and drop the fly in the water and feed line until I think it is in the hole, and then slowly (but with a lot of action) pull the woolly back against the current. Everything I've read says that fish won't take a fly swimming against the current. Sometimes the books are right.
  17. I realize the woolly is pretty much an idiot proof fly, but can you fish a woolly when your upstream of a hole? I've heard trout do not like things that swim against the current. My casting skills (or lack there of) make it easier in some tight holes to let fly drift in, i.e., under tree branches into the root ball. I realize I might lose a couple that way, but I need the practice tying. Please advise.
  18. Will you adopt me? Thanks for the pic
  19. Another great report...Please keep them coming. They help get me through the day. Would love to see some pics of the river and spots you are talking about?
  20. Well made the trip down to BSC with the family. The water was up and made me realize I still have a lot to learn. I had to rush a little with the little one, but I struggled with the speed of the water all day. It was me as another guy on the creek had pulled in 12 on the same water as me. I only brought one to hand. The highlight of the day was when I caught my fish. My little one was sitting down and chilling out while I was fishing. I brought my one and only in, took a pic, and released it. I turned around to go back to my spot and low and behold...there she was in my spot fishing. Made me laugh. The fishing was bad, but the daffodils were out, the frogs were out, and there must of been a hundred minnows in the hole right below the hwy. I think the frog in the pic is a leopard frog, but fill free to correct if you know.
  21. I'm headed down to Blue Springs Creek with the wife and kid tomorrow unless they get a ton of rain.
  22. OTF, You are safe for a little bit longer. Best laid plans of mice and men. Kid's friend is sick, lost my babysitter, and I have to stay home. @#$@.
  23. I'd tie on my underwear if I thought it would help me catch fish...
  24. Some recent posts have inspired me to try some video editing. This is my first try during a trial period. Hope you enjoy. <iframe src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/21218605" width="400" height="225" frameborder="0"></iframe><p><a href="http://vimeo.com/21218605">Blue Springs Creek Jump Fest</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/user6282938">Michael Donaldson</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com">Vimeo</a>.</p>
