  1. Yep, as far as I know the place is still there. I haven't gone out there to get anything for a few months now, but it was in the shopping center on the south east corner of 95th and Mission on the lower level right next to the doors that lead out to the parking garage in back of that shopping center. I think it's called Fincke's Fishing Hole?
  2. I'm from Belton and I always went to a place over on 95th and Mission called The Fishing Hole for most all my tying stuff. It's in the shopping center directly across the street from the old Ranchmart bowling alley on the bottom level and the guy that runs the place is really helpful with any of the dumb questions I've ever come up with.
  3. Great! Thanks for the tips...I'll definitely be stopping by your shop Tim to browse the selection and see what other things I can find that I probably don't need, but most likely will make up an excuse to need! I hate when I do that.
  4. Anybody got an idea what it's like down there right now or what might be working this time of year? My dad, grandad, and I are going to be heading down for the weekend and I was wanting to know what kinda flies I need to be tying before we leave. Thanks
  5. This last weekend my Dad and I had to come down to Taney from KC to pick up my boat out of storage and bring it home to do some general upkeep and maintenance on it. Anyways, after a lot of convincing I talked him into leaving about 5 am so we could get down there and have a few extra hours to get some wading in before we took the boat back up late afternoon. (There is no way I am driving that far and coming that close to the lake without fishing for at least a little while!) All I've got to say is... COLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really should have checked the weather before we left cause we were not prepared for that weather at all. I knew it was cold in KC, but didn't think it would have stretched that far south. Luckily I had neoprene waders which helped, but my dad just has plain rubber ones. Back to the fishing, we fished mainly around the old boat ramp area. We got there around noon. Like I said, it was COLD and there was a lot of wind blowing around too. I was using black and silver midges and my dad was using red jig heads with a white chenille body to start. They were hitting like crazy when we got there. We are still kinda new to the whole wading thing on Taney, but it was the fastest action we had ever seen fishing there. Ended up losing my zebra and didn't have anymore on me, so I switched to using some small red and green brassie's. My dad stayed with anything small and white. After about an hour and half or so, my dad couldn't take it anymore and had to call it quits. I quit a little while later since we had to get going back to KC. After we were all done, we had probably 15 to 20 fish make it to hand in only 1 1/2 hours of very cold fishing during the middle of the day. I will say this, I thought there would have been more die hards out there dealing with the cold, especially with it being Easter weekend and a bunch of people down there on vacation, but the area seemed pretty empty to me for a Saturday.
  6. I was down at Taney this past weekend. I fished Friday through Sunday. During the day, I wasn't able to do anything productive. I spent Friday and Saturday day out in the boat fishing from Fall Creek down to Cooper Creek and wasn't able to do ANYTHING!!! I was using everything from glo-balls, plastic worms, flies, almost everything I had in my arsenal. I just couldn't get any results. On Friday night I went out with Leonard from about 10 to 4am. It was the first time I had gone night fishing, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was really surprised by the number of people out there that time of night. Anyway, my younger sister and cousin-in-law wanted to tag along for a little bit and Leonard took us down a ways from Outlet 2 and had us stripping across the bottom. (and had my lil' sis tossing a little brown trout body bait with a spinning rod since her fly fishing skills arent' exactly up to par yet) I was able to catch a couple of fish down that way and my cousin-in-law caught a few there too (I think his only fish for the entire weekend) Those two ended up getting cold and tired of fishing around 1130 or so and left. Leonard and I worked our way back up to outlet 2 and started to fish scuds under the lighted indicators. The fishing really started to pick up there. We saw a bunch of big ones, but I wasn't able to hook up on any of them. I think I ended up with 20 to 25 fish by the end of the night. Nothing too big but I was at least catching fish. Leonard was a GREAT HELP! in showing me the ropes of night fishing. I probably wouldn't have had any luck this weekend if it weren't for Leonard's help out that night. I attempted to go back on Saturday night, but things didn't work out. I made it out Sunday morning and fished what I could, but man was it crowded up top!! I was able to get a couple of fish on scuds, but nothing to call home about. Well, that was my weekend down here. If anybody is planning on coming down soon I hope your luck is better than mine. Or at least have Leonard take you out for a night trip...He definitely has got me hooked on night fishing!...Just watch out for those beavers! They sneek up on you!
  7. I'll take 3/26/07
  8. Hi there, I have been a member of this site for a little while now and have never really gotten around to posting anything. I am a 22 year old college student attending Iowa State (GO CLONES!), and from the South KC area. I have been fly fishing since I was about 12 when my grandma and grandpa taught me. For the most part I've always fished Roaring River and the last 3 or 4 years or so I've been coming down to Taney once or twice a year. I'll be coming down again to Taney from Thursday through Sunday next week and I have noticed a bunch of you on here talking about night fishing up in the fly zone and have heard that you guys have been doing pretty darn good. Every time that I have come to Taney I am always fishing from a boat drifting down stream to about Cooper Creek and then heading back up and drifting again. I would really like to give this whole night thing a try when I get down there and I am wondering what kind of flies to use, what other kind of gear you guys use or think would come in handy that you wouldn't normally take or use during a day trip, or any other hints or tips you could give a beginner to the night. Also, my biggest question about fly fishing at night I have is, how do you know when you are getting strikes if you aren't able to see your fly and it's too dark out to see a strike indicator? Is it more of a luck thing just setting the hook or what? Other than that, hi everyone... and to Phil, I love this site. You have no idea how many times I have been sitting in classes going through this site's postings instead of pretending to be taking notes or attempting to stay awake.
