This last weekend my Dad and I had to come down to Taney from KC to pick up my boat out of storage and bring it home to do some general upkeep and maintenance on it. Anyways, after a lot of convincing I talked him into leaving about 5 am so we could get down there and have a few extra hours to get some wading in before we took the boat back up late afternoon. (There is no way I am driving that far and coming that close to the lake without fishing for at least a little while!)
All I've got to say is... COLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really should have checked the weather before we left cause we were not prepared for that weather at all. I knew it was cold in KC, but didn't think it would have stretched that far south. Luckily I had neoprene waders which helped, but my dad just has plain rubber ones.
Back to the fishing, we fished mainly around the old boat ramp area. We got there around noon. Like I said, it was COLD and there was a lot of wind blowing around too. I was using black and silver midges and my dad was using red jig heads with a white chenille body to start. They were hitting like crazy when we got there. We are still kinda new to the whole wading thing on Taney, but it was the fastest action we had ever seen fishing there. Ended up losing my zebra and didn't have anymore on me, so I switched to using some small red and green brassie's. My dad stayed with anything small and white. After about an hour and half or so, my dad couldn't take it anymore and had to call it quits. I quit a little while later since we had to get going back to KC. After we were all done, we had probably 15 to 20 fish make it to hand in only 1 1/2 hours of very cold fishing during the middle of the day.
I will say this, I thought there would have been more die hards out there dealing with the cold, especially with it being Easter weekend and a bunch of people down there on vacation, but the area seemed pretty empty to me for a Saturday.
