  1. Brian, What size and brand of beading wire do you use? From your description, I assume it is plastic coated wire. Dave
  2. That's great news. My son lives in Rogers. Guess I will be visiting him more often. I hated to see the old Sportsman Warehouse close. They had a pretty decent flyfishing dept. Dave
  3. This struck my eye as just yesterday I got around to watching a Kelly Gallop TV program I taped sometime back and his segment on tying was this exact topic. Kelly uses bead wire from Michaels. Don't recall the size but he said what was most important was to make sure to use a glass bead and make certain that when you bend the wire that the fold in the wire is positioned so that one wire is over the other and not side by side. That will prevent twisting of the trailer fly. He slides the wire through the bead and through the eye of the trailer hook and then back through the bead so that the two parts of the wire are setting sort of top and bottom and not side by side. Kind of hard to explain. He then holds the looped wire on top of the main hook shank and binds it down with his wrapping thread and also adds a drop of superglue. Dave
  4. Not sure about now, but as I recall Feathercraft used to give casting lessons in their parking lot on Saturdays. Might give them a call to see if they still do. Dave
  5. Neat picture but I can't believe that guy is not wearing eye protection. Dave
  6. Jim, Go to the flyfishohio.com web site and you will find an excellent review of vises in several price ranges. Hook and Hackle sells a vise called EZ-Rotary for around $50 which is a fairly decent vise. It's covered in the review at flyfishohio. Dave Just saw where the EZ-Rotary is on sale for $40 at Hook&Hackle
  7. I want to rig my 14 foot jonboat with the battery in the back of the boat for use with the electric start outboard motor and then run a wire up to the front of the boat to hookup the 35 lb. thrust trolling motor and the depth finder. My question is what guage wire should I use? Most bass boats use 6 guage wiring for use with their larger trolling motors but I kind of doubt I need to go that heavy on this setup. Would 12 or 14 guage be sufficient? I imagine someone on the board has done this and can share their experience. Thanks, Dave
  8. Thanks Kevin. In looking at the tables they refer to hours 1 through 24. I assume hour 1 is 1:00 AM. Is that right? Actually midnight to 1:00 AM I suppose. Dave
  9. What number do you call to get the generation schedule and what generation rates are conducive to wading below the dam? The above post indicates 50 mw is okay and 100 mw is too much, so what would the cutoff rate be? Also, what is mw--megawatts? Thanks Dave
  10. Andy, I sent you a PM on a reel. Dave
  11. Henry, I would be interested in taking you up on this. I am currently out of town visiting my son but could arrange payment when I get back home early next week. Can you send me a PM with your contact info and also with a link to Falls Village? Thanks, Dave Potts Mexico,Mo
  12. Nice tie Brian. Wish I could tie that fast! Dave
  13. What's a mowhawk leech?
  14. We are keeping all of you in our thoughts and prayers Good Luck, Dave
  15. Fish will certainly hit something moving upstream. I've often watched fish at Bennett, where the water is clear enough to watch your fly and the fish both, and noticed that a trout will often watch a fly just sitting there. They don't take it till I twitch it upstream. They then move up and hit it as though they don't want it to get away. When you think about it, something appears more lifelike when it is moving upstream. If it wasn't alive it couldn't swim aganist the current. Anything can drift downstream. Dave
  16. I think you are right. Most all gas stations have 91 octane pumps but very few say anything about being alcohol free. Dave
  17. Here is a website that lists stations having ethanol free gas. This particular list is for Missouri only but the site has links to all the states. I think all are for premium 91 octane gas. I just got some at Gasper's station in Kingdom City,Mo. Costs was thirty cents higher than 87 octane. The pumps had large stickers on them saying ethanol free. 18. That Hillbilly Place at Bennett is next to Larry's. I think it is open again but maybe only on weekends. It has gone through several owners. I ate there a couple of times last summer and their BBQ ribs were excellent. I'll second the restaurant at Sand Springs too-great salad bar and soups. Dowd's Catfish House in Lebanon is pretty good also. I didn't used to be too impressed with the Dining Lodge at Bennett but actually got a very good meal there last year. I decided to take a trout in and have them prepare it. They fixed the trout and served it with the salad bar and choice of three vegatables for $8.95 and it was very good. Dave
  19. Anybody have any experience with these reels. Abu Garcia are generally pretty good reels, but the low price on this particular model makes me wary. Dick's Sporting Good stores currently has a $10 rebate on them. http://www.basspro.com/Abu-Garcia-Black-Max-Series-Baitcast-Reels/product/100763/-1492627#BVQAWidgetID
  20. I agree. Jerry and Brenda provided pretty detailed info on stream conditions and what was working. They seemed to get a lot of feedback from the folks that were fishing. Dave
  21. I've forgotton-what is the guage house reading when Bennett is at "normal level"? As I recall, isn't it around 1.5 to 1.6? Dave
  22. Yea, I just got an e-mail from a flyshop wanting to buy grizzly saddles from tyers saying they will pay top dollar for them. When the fad ends, and it will end, we can probably pick them up on flea bay for next to nothing. Dave
