  1. thanks, caught that one in 3 fow about 2 yards from the shore
  2. had a good day on the lake today, caught 7 largemouth and 1 large drum even. did really well in the coves and points near bolivar landing. caught all my fish on a 5 inch zoom lizard with a chartreuse tail. I cast onto rocky ledges and near fallen trees and dragged it towards open water. Bite was relatively soft so you had to feel them take it and set the hook fast. looks like they're all staging for the spawn as 2 of the fish were larger females. Plan on being out there again very soon.
  3. i've been wanting to catch a couple grass carp as i have heard the fight is fun. anybody know where a good population of these would be and anybody got a certain bait/method they use that well they would like to share... any and all help is appreciated
  4. i catch 'em right off of the fishing docks using worms and stinkbait starting about an hour before sundown and right at dawn.
  5. i was only able to fish for about an hour and a half before work... but it took 30 minutes to get there. so i only got about 40 minutes to fish once we rowed to where i wanted to fish. nevertheless, caught six total (5 shorts 1 16.5") in the flooded long grass in 3-5 feet of water using spinnerbaits and shallow cranks. didn't get to go back today, but i think i will tomorrow. there's more in there. they were jumping all over the place too.
  6. i do the same kind of fishing from my flat bottom john boat... was the water any clear up at masters? i was actually thinking of going up there later this week
  7. father-in-law and i have caught 6 channel cats on the jugs over the past day including 2 six pounders and a couple 4 pounders
  8. i went out to bolivar landing today and took my john boat out before the storm hit. ended up catching three good size bass on a zoom green pumpkin/chartreuse lizard. you had to throw a lot of them but when they hit 'em hard when you present it just right. all of the bass hit just before the storm started in earnest. none hit after it started. i'm planning on hitting the state park area near pittsburgh on tuesday. anyone got any hints? and is the water clearer up there or should i go closer to the dam area?
  9. are you using circle hooks? and how long are your leaders from the mainline on the anchored jugs?
  10. i was thinking about setting some jug lines through the weeks on pomme. any tips on specific baits or certain areas that would be conducive to this type of fishing? i appreciate any help in advance
  11. i would say go to stockton. check out their forum, they have been talking about walleye for a while now.
  12. yeah but if you can find some high ground, pitching to the submerged brush can produce
  13. father-in-law went out on this past thursday. all the females we caught had spawned and very few were shallow. we were in the high point area
  14. nice fish, congrats!
  15. found the same kind of action over by masters two days ago by texas rigging a green pumpkin rage tail worm... they were hitting 'em hard
  16. just wondering if anyone is getting any hits with the crawfish style baits just yet. i'm thinking its getting about that time of the year
  17. Don't forget the spinnerbaits and the plastic craws too. Also for later on in the year don't forget the buzzbaits, jitterbugs and poppers for the topwater bite. you might want to look into swimbaits as well both hard and soft varieties. i had a lot of luck with the baby king shads by strike king... hope this helps
  18. finally had a day off of work and the ability to spend all afternoon and evening on the water. Was planning on putting in at the aldrich area. Got about halfway out there on hwy T From Bolivar and my truck's radiator blew up. So i sat on the side of the road for an hour till my father-in-law came and towed me home. what should of been a great day fishing turned into an afternoon tearing out a radiator and replacing it. It figures... At least it was an easy fix though
  19. i also know that there are a number of companies that make soft plastic versions of this. most notably berkley gulp.
  20. now i have never fished with one of these but i do know a lot about the actual organism. A helgrammite is an aquatic insect that is actually the juvenile stage of a dobson fly. in fact i was actually at a stream yesterday in Bolivar doing some stream team work with my biology professor and we caught three of them. one of them was about 4.5 inches long. right now would be the time to use these because they are all over the stream. let me know how you do with them and where did you get the rebel version. next time i go out stream teaming i'm definately going to bring a bait bucket so i can keep all of the helgrammites after we record 'em
  21. regretfully, no. had to cover a shift and it was storming all day anyway
  22. no prob. let me know how you do out there
  23. hello all, i've heard ya'll talking about fishing at the CC bridge area a lot. i'm going to have some time wednesday afternoon to do some fishing (cold as it may) and i thought that i'd check it out. I live in Bolivar so i think it'll be a little bit of a drive, but i like experiencing different places as much as i like to fish them. However, would it even be worth the drive then or is there another place i should go to. I usually fish at the aldrich bridge, highpoint and occassionally masters areas... thanks
  24. i am not sure of the name of the road that its on but on hwy 123 coming from fair play there is a road named Front street. take this road to a very sharp curve. right before that curve there is a dirt road heading off to the left. take that and it forks with both ways terminating in water. the one on the right goes to the flats
  25. i've caught walleye and bass a little ways down from the spillway. but you can catch some good catfish under the spillway itself as well
