  1. Im not Tim.... But I have the website listed in my favorites... http://www.missouritrout.com/timsflyshop/report.html I just hope it works
  2. Troutn... that walleye looks to be about 16 maybe 18inches.... how big was it... and did you release it or take it home and cooked it.... I cooked mine... OH MY GOSH!! I ranks right up there with crappie... it was VERY, VERY GOOD!! I'll try to find a picture of mine and post it for everyone
  3. It should be no problem for me to get out on the lake with you all that weekend... But the wife does work from 7am-7pm... so my fishing maybe only for a couple of hours... Lets just hope there are not running any water... do me a favor... check the moon phase for that weekend (and post it for me)... then I know what to bring... and what I need to tye up...
  4. I myself like my 5wt... I can throw small nymphs, dry flies, and meduim size streamer.. with no problem at all As for as tippet.. I use reg. leader line... mainly 3 or 4lb Maxima line... and if im fish at night I'll use 6 or maybe 8lb Maxima (8 if the browns are spawning)
  5. Troutn... Just a month or so ago I caught one my self... 24in... and from what Ive read in your post.. almost the same place... the run between the rebar and the big hole... I may have to going tonight (if they are not running water)... Question... Did you catch it on a fly rod.. and if so.. what fly were you using???
  6. As for as I know... Im one in a very few that has roo fur... It is a blast to tye with and it is so soft.. it really dubs up great
  7. if you posted a picture... it didnt show up... what did you catch???
  8. IMHO!!! I think the first mile of fishing is a great idea of catch and release..... <<<<<<<<<<<< BUT >>>>>>>>>> Then look at all the dead fish that would start showing up in the water.. Yes it would give the much larger fish something to eat.. to an extent.. Unless barbless hook was applied... then if they got use to eatting the dead fish (flesh)... what would you be able to catch them on?? Also... how "over populated" would it get... I mean if ever fish you caught HAD to be released... then I believe the population of fish would multiply 10 folds... you wouldnt be able to walk around in the water.. Heres a thought... Maybe during the spawn (for rainbows and browns) that C&R should be inforced.. with all hooks must be barbless... with no fishing outlets added... but... again... the problem comes up.. what if you over play a fish and it cannot be revived... what do you do with it??? My 3 biggest graps in the trophy area.. 1st.. seeing dead fish on the bottom 2nd.. shuffling.. 3rd.. trying to snag fish at the end of a drift in chute 2..
  9. Thanks Lostsurfer... I really couldnt remember 14,15, or 20... But I honestly thought he said 20...
  10. Sorry for the correction... but today is the 22nd... and if I may add... Chute 1 was fairly good this morning.. when I got there (around 9am)... they maybe had one on.. but I think had just shut a second on off... the water was dropping quick... Now... for the fishing... I was useing that Roo scud (#18 brown).. with a red SJ worm dropper (no weight)...they were hitting them both.. stayed for about hour..
  11. Well...I sorry to see a fish like that gone!! But at least he knew it was going to make it... and didnt leave it dead on the bottom.. wonder if hes going to mount it or try to eat it??
  12. Phil... e-mail sent... (I think?)
  13. Are you going to be around the shop tomorrow???? some where around 9 or 10am.. or a good time to catch you
  14. Thanks Phil... After posting those picture... Now I want to go to the San Juan... Thanks for sharing them with us
  15. I myself have tried them... But I hear the connector can double as a float.. (not sure if its true or not).. I have consider trying them... Im just not sure on how they connect to the line..
  16. John.. I got that walleye... In the run between rebar and big hole... it was about 4:30am.. no water running (later Oct).... and a white woolly.. it was 5 1/2lbs.... and heres a big kicker.... when I fillet it I check the the stomach content... 5 big sculpins (any where from 1 3/4-3 in).... he was have a hey day... and yes he was Very,Very fat!! Warning.... I did ask a agent, all walleyes caught in Missouri must be 20 inches.... so even if you catch a 18in out of taney.. well you know what to do... STOMP THE HELL OUT OF IT... TO GET 2in...
  17. just so you understand a little better... If and when I do fish an outlet (or chute)... all fish are released... If Im fish anywhere from the rebar hole up to the cable... all fish are release...(unless its over 20.. and have "NO CHANCE" of recovering... this fish Id rather see eatting then laying dead on the bottom of the lake rotting... Now for the 2 fish that I had taking home this year from Taneycomo.. 1st was a 24in walleye.... yes a walleye.. caught in the run between the rebar and the big hole... mighty darn good!!! 2nd.. was a 24in Brown that someone else had caught.. this fish had "NO CHANCE" of recovery... the guy who caught it spent 15-20 minutes trying to revive the fish. then he asked if anyone wanted the fish...I said yes... I (myself) spent about another 10 minutes.. the fish was on it last breath... so yes I took it home.... I mean its one thing to catch and release... but it another to catch and release to watch the fish die at your feet and see it rot away in the water... I have a family of 4 (wife, myself, and 2 young boys 2&4).... and if a 20-24in fish can feed us... that a darn good meal... I dont go out daliy to try to bring a fish (or a limit) home... it just one of those things... what if!!
  18. ok.... I see what you are saying... and I agree 100%... There is only 1 thing that gets to me... someday.. sit back and watch them fish chute 2.. and the end of the drift they "set the hook".. why is that ... I guess they are trying to snag them.. but it is unbelieveable.. how many people do that
  19. OK... Everyone has made a point or two.. or express their opinions... but.. there are guys who do take fish under 20" we all have seen it... I was there about 3 weeks ago chating with someone.. a guy came up with a very nice fish... and ask for a tape... it "was" close to 20"... 18 1/2"... he put it in the back of his truck... and said..."well its dead anyways!!" this is after he caught the fish between chute 2 & 3.. and walked up to his truck... "well hell yes dumba$$... its been out of the water for atleast 5 mins..." was my remark.. I guess he thought I was rude.. But also... I really do not see a problem keeping a fish between 20-24 inches... this here is a meal for me and my family... and when I say that.. Ive had fish twice this year... and caught probly 50 fish over 20 inches I really enjoy fishing at the dam... just need a few more people who respect what the good Lord gave us.... today I was there between 8:30-10am.. did very well caught 8... but the guy standing in chute 1 suffling his feet did a whole lot better then me... and then proceed to tell me "there are hit on scuds not soft hackles..
  20. Pattern: Double 20 griffin gnat category: midge difficulty: 1 species: Trout and panfish recipe: Size: 16 TMC dry fly hook Thread: 8/0 black body (rear): peacock and (#20 whiting) grizzly hackle center: black thread body (front): peacock and (#20 whiting) grizzly hackle Tying Instructions: Place hook in vise. Start thread at 1/3 of the way past the eye (this will be where the body will be), wrap your thread toward the back of the hook, until you are even (stright up and down) with the barb. tying in the size 20 hackle, and the 3 strands of peacock herl. (you can wrap the herl around thread for strengh 4to5 time).. proceed wrap the herl 5-6 times around the hook (keeping it as close together as you can), then tye off herl and wrap the hackle 5-7 time over the herl. (you may add a half hitch knot here if you want). wrap te thread back up to where you started, making sure you keep a "nice and even body". next...tying in the size 20 hackle, and the 3 strands of peacock herl. (you can wrap the herl around thread for strengh 4to5 time).. proceed wrap the herl 5-6 times around the hook (keeping it as close together as you can), then tye off herl and wrap the hackle 5-7 time over the herl. Keeping a clean eye.. tye off you thread and clip.. add just a slight drop of head cement to hold.. Forgot this part.. how to use: this fly can be use as a dry fly, by it self, as a dry fly indicator, or skeet it across the surface in front of rising fish... you can as put a small midge dropper on the fly.. Its a great floater!!
  21. the color of the fly you use.... most people swear by by olive or black at night..no matter the moon phase I myself... like to use black when then the moon is full and bright... just after the full full moon 1/4 to 1/2 moon... olive 1/2 moon the new moon white... white is the color I have the most faith in... I will most likely (no matter the phase) start with a white (or sometime gray) woolly or pine squirrel sculpin.. just to add... I always throw a 6lb line at night (Maxima)..
  22. I like any night... it really doesnt matter the moon phase with the right color.. but yes I perfer new moon... but the full moon can bring up the big ones.. but like I said... It all depends on the color!!
  23. Hey guys... remember this the next time you get stung.. 3 TBS of baking soda 1 tsp of water 2 tsp of vinger mix all 3 together until a thick paste froms (if to thick "slowly" add drops of water).. add to sting, and let set for 15 minute... the reason the sting is so painful.. is that the stingers stays in you skin when you get stung (thus killing the bee itself)... sorry it took so long to post..
  24. Thanks Phil
  25. Hey Phil.. just wondering .. do you carry TMC 500U (eyes up trico hooks)? I think thats right... cant seem to find them any where Leonard
