Sorry guys...im alittle on the report.. This "special" little fly did produce 17 fish ( 1 was a nice little 19in bow) from 1am to 3:30am.. Most was caught on the swing, and a few were caught throwing down stream and letting it just sit there... evening picked up a couple on the fast strip... which felt great when they would just "HAMMER" it.. in the next few nights I'll be backon the water again.. and try it a few more time before I call it a good night time fly.. Leonard

Does that mean I cant pick up my stringer of fish...hehehehe I heard this story to... as some know my wife work work at the Hospital, she says the a viel of anti-venom cost around $800-1200 each on a copperhead it takes about 5 viel to start the process.. sometime 3-5 more to get it reacting. for a rattle snake it take about 7 veil to start, and can go as high as 6-10 more... depending on the type of rattler.

the KOA is probably close to a mile (maybe just under) from the dam by water. When the water is off it is wadeable.. but has some deep pockets there is a few way to get there.. Id have to say the best way is to go the hatchery side, drive all the way to the end of the road (cant think of the name of it), its where the boat ramp is. park on the other side of the ramp and you'll see a little path... follow the gravel path, you'll walk down a set of stairs and you are on the way... stay on that path till you cross a little wooden bridge, and just past that you'll see the stairs... (NOTE: if you plan on going here at night.. walk this path a few times during the day so you know where you are going) next access, south side of the dam... come in at the rocking chair and walk your way down, point royale has an access to... but you are looking at a pretty good walk hope that helps.. Nobody have a heart attack.. I made to the dam today about 10:30 and fish till 1:30.. I mainly stayed around outlet one and was watching some nice fish and then it hit.... RAIN.. RAIN... and more RAIN.. it was a down-poor... last about 15 minutes.. got back down to the water and started with a 5 inch strip leech... got 2 browns.. 1 was about 18in, the other was probably 20-21in... switched over to a sculpin (and it wasnt a little one!) caught 1 brown on it that was maybe 22in.. well the big boys decided to stop playing so I put on a float and a size 12 scud... without down sizing my line (I was using 8 pound Maxima) caught 6 more bows 12-15inchers.. and called it a day.. I did notice more big fish in the area... I did walk the bank alittle and there are some good ones!!!

I call the dam at 6pm... water was off.. so I made dinner and headed to the water.. got there almost 6:45... 2 units on.. well I ran in to Darrel (from river run) as useally he was catching fish.. he's hook up about every cast, bringing in about 2 out 5 fish.. He helped me with a bit of set up (being I dont have that much daytime stuff).. I slipped in to chute 2 first few drifts was some good takes... we were using a scud and a sj worm, at the end he landed a nice 19 3/4in brown (we taped it!!) well I ended up with about 8 fish between 6:30pm and 8 or just after.. the shut the water down about 7:30pm... took a short break (getting the night gear on) about a 30 minute until it got good and dark and went back at it... as I walk down the stairs, a guy was standing there fishing.. ask him if he would like to fish together for a little bit so we procede to the big hole.. we fished with a little bit of everything and the key pattern seemed to be the pine squirrel (unweighted!!), well after a bit I put on the good ol' mohawk sculpin.. after a few hook up and alot of hits I called him down to fish it awhile... Almost every cast was 2-4 strikes the action was awesome.. but with out the hook ups.. he then got the hang of it and we headed to the flats... 2nd cast fish on for me... 3rd, 4th, and 5th fish on again... so I him come dowm and take over my spot.. there action was still going on the mohawk... I think he ended up with a few (not sure how many) I ended up with 10 or so fish... but most of the time was standing there visiting with him... Rick... It was great meeting and fishing with you last night.. hope to do it again soon!! Leonard

since this post was already started I'll just add to it... guanlet and big hole was very slow.. but, did pick up a fish on a mohawk in the big hole... then went to the flat (just below outlet 1).. and there I picked up maybe 10-12. then I decided I would work the bank with a fly I have just started tying (you can say it almost looks like a double bunny.. twisted). the fly is unweighted, so I was able to fish in shallow and started picking up some really nice fish... just walking the bank... picked up 3 nice bows one was maybe 18 the other 2 was 16-17... the other 5 was in the 14-15in range... and 1 brown the was maybe 7in if he was an inch.... I think he was the "hardest" hit I had all night..LOL Leonard

BM... this has been Just my way of thinking... mid-late sept.. brown are on te move to the spawning gounds... and there are going to be hungry... (if you looking for the pounds!!) oct.. they are everwhere.. but the biigest Ive have caught in a row would be last week Oct-first week Nov (again.. if you looking for the pounds) now running into mid of Nov- end of the year.. the brown are starting to move back down stream to their holding areas for the next 7-8 months till it is time to do it again..

guess what.. The water was high.. hummm?? who would have guessed!! well high water I played around in outlet 2.. glo in the dark indicator/midge/roo bug.. 14 fish tonight all on the roo size 12. it seem to start off a slow.. but as soon as the rock uncovered below the steps that is when the action really started. I had the midge set about 12inches below the indicator and the roo trailing on about 3 foot. all fish tonight were great fish..most in the 16-18 all bows... no browns tonight but I did see one and he was "hugging" the head of the chute tight.. could have went a good 5lbs ( he was atleast 22-24in). I do believe this is a good sign the brown are getting ready to move in. I heard alot of report of some big fish (8-15lb range) moving up from the area around KOA up to the cable... Get ready everyone... and let the fun began!!!! Leonard

HUMMM??? NOPE I will reviel this fly on the water or at the first of the year..

jd.... This fly the "P.M.S." has been a really great fly.. and has produced some quality fish... I hate to say but this will stay under wraps till the first of the year. The fly itself has accounted for by my hand (and others I have fished with).. at least 12-15 fish between 20-25 inch fish (all browns)... and countless bow between 15-19in one of these nights if you get to Taneycomo.. I'll show it to you!! BTW... since there is no "new" flies.. Im sure most people has already seen it or will claim they have..I know of 7 people that has seen and used this fly. Leonard

Night fishing has been good... not the greatest, but still catching quite a few. Late afternoon when they start the 4 units.. and run them till about 8-10pm.. the key time has been the shut down.. as the water is dropping out to the level of 2 units ( just below the big rock at outlet 2) Flies: beaded scud and scud dropper, sculpins, midge and TNS dropper, Midge and scud dropper, midge or heavy weighted scud and egg dropper. we have to keep adjusting the indicator when the 2 units are shuting down and they dropping to 1 unit the water level is up and down.. up and down.. Streamers has been doing good to.. unweighted pine squirrels, the PMS, Mohawks and lightly weighted woolies (white, grays and tans... keeping the colors light is the key!!)... on a side note... the PMS has really been hitting some 18-20inch fish on a regular basis.... browns and rainbow both.. the big tree below 2 has been HOT!!! Outlet 1 has been fishing really slow.. if you can get right in the seam of the fast/slow water (coming from the outlet and the flow of the current).. that has been the key for that area... Again using unweighted pine squirrels, also black and olives mohawks sculpins on the lower side of 1.. what has been weird.. is one color will work at outlet 2.. but a totally different color at 1... I believe its the way the lights hit the water from the dam, giving off a different tone in the water. On top of the lighter color bottom because of the "wash-out" at outlet 1..... Leonard

Zach.... PM me you address.. Id be happy to let you borrow the Kelly Galloup on articulated streamers... Leonard

Unless you are a really good tyer some flies may have to be bought, Chuck (anglers and archery) would be the 1 stop for just about anything for that time year night fishing... big flies: zonkers, sculpins, double bunnies, leeches. (sizes 4-8) he is the only one I know that carries glo-in-the dark indictors: so you can fish eggs, scuds, and other nymphs. (sizes 8-12) streamers: make them big: Sizes 2-4 there is a lot more flies that could be covered but these are the basics.. if have any questions... feel free to call me.. Leonard

Any chronic issues with a Shimano 2000 reel?
Leonard replied to MoMuskies's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
what kind of 2000?? http://fish.shimano.com/catalog/fish/produ...roup_detail.jsp -
sorry... my fingers go faster then my thoughts... what I meant to say: If you try to load a box with just lures.. youd have close to 100 of them... you need deep runners, husky jerks, countdowns, floaters, and alot more... then the colors.. so many colors to choose from you would really have to have a lot of rapalas to cover it all..
-
Web... I dont remember getting to use those baits down that far at night.. denjac... you talking about using this lure during the day right?? another few more good ones during the day is: rooster tails (web.. these are what I would throw down stream at night to get alot of noise.. in the bigger sizes).... also a few good day times lures... the little jakes (aka dominos)in gold and silver always have a few jigs little cloes get a few castmasters (take the little hook off the back and add marabou tails (in a range of colors)on it... up size the hook to the next size... this will really draw in a few strikes... if your were to "try" to load a box that would be just lures only... youd have about 100 or so lures that would work on any giving "night that would" produce fish 90% of the time..
