  1. Yep, I have put in on that side and caught crappie. Did see a young lady catch a big hybrid there on bait. I will try that side again. I think that is what they call the "wier." It's halfway across the dam in about 20 feet depth or so right?
  2. Thanks for the great info. I'll watch for the guru.
  3. Would appreciate some info on tackle and lure choices for top water hybrids below Truman Dam. I understand distance casting is important to reach feeding fish so I would imagine the right tackle and line is important.
  4. Sounds like the"frigid" Crappie finally woke up. I was there last week and the crappie were slow but the whites were on. I have caught a lot of hybrids up there with jigs but never got into the top water bite but would love to. The amount of fish in there is just mind-boggling. I hope you catch a bunch!
  5. Oops! Missed the memo.
  6. I had the same problem. Water was pumping out just fine but the alarm sounded. Ended up changing a bad battery with a dead cell and it stopped. That may not be your problem, but It's possible. My motor is a 2008 60 hp merc 4 stroke.
  7. Thanks! Great to be on the water.
  8. Got on the water at 8am yesterday near the dam and had a cold wind about 15 mph. Fished a windy point with jerkbaits and caught this nice 20" eye right away. Caught a nice bass too, then it stopped. checked out other points w/o results. Switched to windy banks with pea gravel in coves and caught 5 more bass all on Jerkbait. The biggest bass about 3 lbs with total of 4 keeper bass, released, except for walleye which I kept. Did look for crappie too (waste of time) with no luck. Should has stayed with jerkbait. Left at 4pm for a long day. Now looks like a break on fishing while Mother Nature takes her turn with some nasty weather.
  9. Fished yesterday by the dam with my wife. Tried pretty hard to get a bass bite going but only caught one keeper on a jig n' craw. Pretty tough. What really made most of the day was watching all the geese and ducks everywhere. Saw lots of Goldeneyes and snow geese. We watched a loon hearding a ball of shad on top. I'll bet his belly was full of 6" shad. I've been fishing Stockton for 30 years and still love watching all the bird activity there. It never gets old. Towards the end of the day we found lots of shad in the back of a cove with whites mixed in with them. We were actually sight casting to the dark looking schools of fish in clear shallow water. The action was fast and furious until we were so wore out (middle aged) we left for the house. How many times do you get to leave when the fish are still biting? Usually it's the other way around, lol! I hope you all have good fishing.
  10. Beautiful fish! We fished the afternoon to almost sundown by high point. Couldn't get crappie so tried bass and got one small keeper on a craw which was released. Tried jerkbait not one hit. We're you fishing real slow with the jerkbait? We tried both muddy and clear water.
  11. Curious to know how much the water temps went up in the last few days.
  12. I haven't fished for Walleye there for years, but I did catch a few on jerkbaits. I casted cross current and created lots of flash while jerking but not too fast on the retrieve. This was 25 years ago and the jerkbait was a Rebel with blue back. Should still work. Jigs will work too.
  13. Lots of good info there, Thanks! I'm making my own buck tail/ rubber jigs and love the input to help me come up with some good colors.
  14. Fantastic! I'm on board with you guy's. Thanks!
  15. Just wondering what jig colors are most popular on bass for imitating the crawfish at Stockton Lake. For me a olive green seems to work well. Anybody do any good on other craw colors?
  16. One lure I like that catches everything is a 1/8th ounce jig with a white or chartreuse swimming minnow. It is a minnow shaped soft plastic with a twister tail and it's around 2 inches long. Around the docks you can catch largemouth and smallmouth bass, walleye, white bass, crappie, bluegills, catfish, and carp.
  17. Disregard shimano, got my reels mixed up. Sorry. I've always called them closed face reels. My wife used them for a while until I showed her how much better "open face" spinning reels are.
  18. Shimano makes good reliable reels. Even the lower end shimano reels are pretty good. I use the shimano symetre and I love it.
  19. I usually put in early on the weekends and pull out before all the craziness begins. Most of the jet skiers aren't early risers thank goodness.
  20. Thanks Golden Shiner, that was very informative. Sounds like you know your stuff.
  21. How about a drop shot or spoon jigged around suspended fish in deep water on Stockton, are there any comments about that? Bass fishing in August is tough. I've been dragging jigs and 10-12" worms with little or no results on the last 2 trips. I fished points mainly from 15 to 25 feet. Do I need to be sitting over deeper water on top of schools of shad?
  22. Had a large boat pass right by me up at the dam. Caught me totally off guard. Water came up over the back of the boat and got my attention real quick.
  23. Flies that imitate small crayfish are good. Carp eat a lot of aquatic insects too like dragonfly nymphs that live in the silt and vegetation in the backs of coves. Small woolly buggers are perfect in blacks, olives, or brown. The thrill is to watch the fish inhale your fly. Quick reflexes to set the hook help a lot because a carp will quickly spit the fly out when he realizes it is fake. During the dog days of summer when bass slow down carp can supply action. Hook one and hang on while he towes the boat around the cove. I would use about 6 or 8 lb leader tippet. Also, good polarized sun glasses make a big difference for spotting fish. Also, look for mud clouds caused by feeding carp and determine which way he's going for cast placement. Good luck!
