  1. I think when you clean white bass, in a timely manner, and trim the fillets like livingtofish stated they are not bad. I like them fresh better than previously frozen. What makes crappie stand out besides their great subtle flavor, in my opinion, is the texture of the flesh. White bass texture may be off putting to some. Just a thought. I'm sure a lot of you guys have different opinions and I would love to hear them.
  2. Didn't think about that...good point fishin wrench. All I know is the surface activity looked just like what I've seen in the tributaries by white bass so I thought that's what they were.
  3. I saw some whites spawning on a main lake windy point last week. Looked like the same activity as in the river, only on the lake.
  4. Excellent report Hammer! Did you keep the rain gear on today?
  5. I'm sure there were turkeys close by...sorry couldn't resist that one.
  6. Thanks for posting the recipe! Lots of good flavors going on there. Panko gives it that nice crunchiness. I'm a huge fan of shallots. I am salivating.
  7. How are you going to prepare that monster? Fried, baked, grilled?
  8. Sometimes it can be pretty good. Fineness worms and zoom craws work well for us at times. Hit or miss. Lots of undersized Kentuckys in there in the Spring. We went in there last Saturday and the music was cranked up high from people partying. They have just as much a right to be there, I just don't care for the littering and the music drowns out the sounds of nature. So, I move to another area. Simple. Neat place though, and yes, fishing just outside the quarry can be pretty good.
  9. One of my favorite places. Secluded, out of the wind, and mysterious. When the weather warms up it's a party haven and the fishin' there is over for me.
  10. Put in at Crabtree about 8 this morning. Since I'vod Walleye reports on OA Stockton forum I decided to hit some points with jigs. I tried that for quite a while and only caught one bass. Because of the intense wind I changed to spinnerbait and crankbaits, no good. Finally ended up using a wacky style worm and caught a bunch of bass with 2 keepers. The bass were hitting the worm very aggressively which made it more fun. They were in 4 to 8 feet of water and hit it on the drop. While fishing the wacky style worm I dragged a road runner with a smoke colored grub about 8 feet down on the other side of the boat and caught one short walleye on that. About that time (2 pm) I got ran off the water by nw wind that changed the air temperature and concerned me. Met a nice gentleman at the ramp in a white Champion who was staying at the camp ground in his 5th wheeler. He said he tried spinnerbaits too without any luck and ended up catching a bunch of bass on a pink worm at the same depth I did. Water temperature was 63 to 65. When I headed back in the white caps were menacing on the main lake .
  11. Amazing catch! Congrats! Good eats!
  12. I've been catching those 14 7/8 inch fish too. The keepers I have caught were on a spinnerbait, slow rolling or stopping it and letting it drop in 8 to 10 feet of water. I have been using a trailer hook too because of short strikes.
  13. After a little over one week I am able to access OA forums on my computers running off my Motorola router again...no rhyme or reason. Go figure. Just glad it's back.
  14. Don't do what I did and throw one against a rock bluff. After thought, check the cast before it hits next time. 20/20.
  15. Same with my 14, soon to be 15 yr old lab. I learned early on not to bury fish carcasses in the vegetable garden.
  16. Ouch! That's a costly slap!
  17. I really like finesse worms, epecially on drop shot. Thanks for the info guys.
  18. Just wondering what plastics you guys like using on your shakey head jigs on Stockton. I haven't fished them a lot and I'm curious.
  19. Masters was 58 degrees yesterday morning.
  20. It amazes me how people shoot at something without first identifying it. They have no business even owning a gun.
  21. One thing I've done with Flathead is grill it with butter, lemon, and cajun seasoning, that was really good.
  22. Was this fish in or near the brush and how deep?
  23. What an amazing fish! You released it right? Kidding.
  24. Cooked up some of today's crappie. Crappie are hard to beat as tablfare!
  25. Put in at Aldrich mid morning and fished the west side between high Point and Aldrich around the corner where the steep bank is. Caught lots of Crappie but only 5 keepers and they were males. fished close to the bank in 4 to 6 foot depth. I used an 80th ounce chartreuse jig with white marabou tail under a small float on an ultralite spinning rod. Had a couple small bass eat the float off the top. It's topwater time! General consensus among other anglers seems to indicate lots of short fish. I fished mid day so I think early and late could produce larger fish. Had sn osprey dive right in front of my boat while on plane and I felt him bump the side of the boat. Looked behind me in time to see him fly off. He was focussed and intent on his target. No wind today...still and toasty!
