  1. Fished Ruark area Tuesday night, July 3rd. Got on a really good top water bite about an hours before dark. Caught 15 bass on a pop'r, only one keeper, but tons of fun! Switched over to the BIG WORM and continued to hook'em. Zoom Blackberry and Chompers Black& Blue Fleck worked best. Caught a few on Zoom Blueberry and Berkly Tequila Sunrise, until we ran out. We worked main lake points close to deep water. The bass were very active until 11 - 11:30 then it got tough. We only caught 1/2 dozen from 11:30 to 1:30 then headed home, The moon was full and bright. Stockton is quite low and deep water is close to the banks in several spots. Water temp low 80's and slightly stained. Fisrt night fishing trip of the year and it was a good one. Caught 30 + or - a few and had 7 keepers. Best five went around 16 pounds. No really big fish but the fish we caught were fat and healthy. Spoke to a gentlemen pulling out at the ramp and he said his first fish of the night was a 20"er on a single spin-spinnerbait. I threw a single spin a little, but no luck. Caught all of our bass on the worm and pop'r. The late evening and early night bite is really good on Stockton. PLan on going back soon! Happy fishing! 2. Fished Ruark area Saturday July 2nd with a good fishing buddy and really left the lake wondering how the color of a bait works. Started fishing early before the sunshine even thought about waking up. The dark colored big worms was working reall well. Zoom makes a 10" worm in a couple of colors that have worked really well for me under very low light conditions & at night. Zooms, Blackberry, Blueberry, Blue Fleck, Black Emerald, and Tequila Sunrise are my favorites. The ZOOM Ol' Monster worm is big worm style. Berkly Powerbait worms (7" & 10") in its darker colors work well day or night. WE caught most of our largemouth on this bait with these colors. This has been my normal low light & nighttime lure & color choice for years. After the sun was high, bright, and hot I switched to a green pumpkin baby brush hog, carolin rigged, and proceeded to catch absolutelty NADA. My friend kept fishing the Zoom Blackberry worm and kept catching bass (not any big ones, but at least he was catching them). We both fished a jig in PBJ and green pumpkin and caught a couple little ones. My fishing partner went back to the Zoom Blackberry around 2 pm and caught 4 more bass off one bank while I was killing time with a green pumpking shakey head worm and getting the net. So the question I am pondering in my head is why does the GREEN's work will in the Spring daytime, but not as well in the Summer daytime? What in the world does a bass think a dark blue colored bait is? Bluegill? Snake? I have the most confidence in the GREEN's, but have been convinced that the BLUE's are just as effective. Needless to say a dedicated angler needs both colors and needs to know how to fish which one under the right conditions. Do I have it figured out, not yet, but I am learning. That is what makes fishing - fishing. Whit Warriors
  3. I fished Stockton Wed. June 15th from 5:30 to 10:30 in the evening. Fished mostly shallow in the CC area. My son-in-law and I caught 23 bass off one point. We only had two keepers. Best bait was a PBJ football jig with a green pumpkin little critter craw and a Mustad black & blue jig with a blueberry little critter craw. The moon was full and bright, but both of us had to work the next day so we quit early. I also fished Stockton Sat. June 18th out of Mutton Creek and mostly fished the main lake Son's Creek and Chicken Rock area. We caught 30 bass and 3 walleye mostly on carolina rigged baby brush hogs, PBJ football jigs, a few topwater, and a few 10" worms. The main lake points seemed to be the best as every tournament boat was on them. We went up to Old State Park and watched a few friends weigh in at the Joe Bass tourny. The winning weight was 20.44 pounds! WOW! Second 19+, third 17.88, and fourth 17 something. Almost every one of those anglers stated big worms and jigs. Same things we fished with. THe main difference is location, location, location, spots, spots, spots. This really seems to be the time of year where the bass, I mean the big bass are offshore and holding to ledges and brushpiles. A GPS fishfinder is the ticket.
  4. The Trokar hooks are NOT worth the money! Yes they are razor sharp and hook sets are easy, but the hook strength itself is horrible. I found that they bend real easy and once the orginal shape is gone they are worthless. I even broke two in the middle of the shank where I had to bend the hook back in shape. Not sure what kind of steel they are made of? I am going back to the Bass Pro Super G's and the Gama's.
  5. Fished CC on Sunday May 29 & Monday May 30 with Corey, Evan, and Scott. Caught a ton of largemouth bass and a few walleye carolina rigging baby brush hogs, lizards, and fish doctors. Had a few on jigs, flipping in the bushes. Even caught a few walleye early with the jig in the bushes. Scott had a really nice walleye on a c-rig lizard. The wind and heat was blistering both days, but so was the fishing. The c-rig helped keep the bait on the bottom and the fluorocarbon line helped feel the bites. The windy points and banks produce better fish, had a 13 - 14 pound sack on Monday. Green pumpkin, watermelon green, and watermelon green red were our best colors. Tried the new Trokar hooks out, man those hooks are sharp. It seems they take a little less effort to set the hook. Looking forward to going back this weekend. Want to say good luck to a couple of fishing buddies fishing Joe Bass on Pomme. Kev and BP, hook sets are free, good luck!!
