  1. Much better map. And waders not only get hot but are much more tiresome to wear. Thanks for the info.
  2. The wife has family near Cassville so we're planning to make the 300+ mile trip from up here in NE MO some time in June and want to try Roaring River while we're in the area. We've fished Montauk and Bennett but never Roaring River, and the first question I'd have is which one of these it's more similar to. The big difference for me is that I can get along just fine fishing Montauk in hip boots, but at Bennett if I didn't have waders along I'd miss out on a whole lot of fishing. I'm sure we'll bring everything with us but I'd appreciate some of you locals' opinions, is the majority of the stream like the deep-water areas at Bennett or more like the smaller / steeper parts of the stream at Montauk? I printed the map of the park on the web site but it's pretty useless as far as specifics on the stream, eg. what zone is where and I can't find anything on the different zone regulations. I get the impression from previous discussions the are 3 levels not just fly vs. bait like at Montauk? If anybody could find some better online brochure I could look at I'd appreciate the help. We fish with spinning rods and jigs 99% of the time so I'm hoping that means we can go anywhere other than the hatchery ha ha.
  3. The wife and I fished Monday PM through Thursday AM last week and there were a decent number of fish but finding anything of decent size was tough. We pretty much only fish with jigs and our best colors were black/yellow, green/yellow and green/white. After the initial bite in the AM for the newly stocked fish we had our best luck later in the fly water around Hudson's corner, again lots of fish but no size.
  4. Has anyone tried Montauk since the big rains last week? The wife and I are scheduled to come down for a few days next week and were wondering what to expect. Thanks.
  5. Coming down next week for our annual late summer trip to Rockaway Beach. Has the drought had much of an impact on the lake level this year? Wanted to make sure we could still put the boat in. Any other reports or tips from those who fish the middle & lower end of the lake but don't spend tons of time posting things out here (which I totally understand) would be greatly appreciated.
  6. Thanks for the report, it's nice to have something different to try for other than trout when the wife and I come down. I haven't had much luck with the bass so next time I'll tie on a crappie jig and give it a shot.
  7. Any hints on where you caught them? Creeks? Docks?
  8. Thanks that helps. We're stayng at Nemo Bridge so the Lindley Creek side would be a much shorter boat ride so we'll try that first. Hoping to avoid what looks like a 10 mile + boat ride past the Bolivar area, at least in the early AM, could be a little brisk!
  9. Here's a quote from this week's MDC internet fishing report for Pomme: white bass good on Twister Tails farther up river Looking at the map, the only place I see what I'd call river access from the lake would be south of Bolivar, am I right? Week-after-next I'll be there for a week with my wife. If we could get into some action on white bass, regardless of size, it would help make it a much happier trip. Thanks,
  10. Yes we'll be staying at Nemo Bridge. If you see a black & white Crestliner with me & my wife and two beagles on board that'll be us. Thanks much for the info.
  11. Starting to get prepared for our second trip to Pomme ever, first one was over 10 years ago and we have a fluke 22 lb muskie on the wall (caught on a tiny crank bait by my wife of course) to show for it. This time we'll be spending a week at Nemo Bridge the last week of April. My first questions are on what fish are there. I've been told it's a good crappie lake, but on bass are there smallmouth in the lake too or just largemouth? Also has anybody ever hit any good schools of white bass in recent years? I'll keep patrolling this board for any info I can get before we go, thanks to all who post stuff out here.
  12. Heading to Rockaway for a few days tomorrow, if anybody's been fishing the lower part of the lake lately I'd appreciate any info you could share. Looks like it's going to be an early and late thing with the sun and temps keeping us off the lake during the day, we usually just throw jigs and drift power bait for trout but always come prepared for some bass fishing if it's worth it. Thanks.
  13. Fished out of Rockaway Beach for an entire week, didn't travel more than a couple miles up and down the lake either direction all week. Trout fishing was slower than previous trips as far as numbers were concerned but average size was better, fish seemed pretty scattered. My wife boated our first-ever Taneycomo "lunker" a 21 inch Rainbow that weighed just under 5 pounds. Caught it just around the corner from the Cedar Point Resort sign on sunrise colored power bait. Most of our fish were on power bait in some combination of chartreuse / yellow and orange. Caught some fish on jigs, best color was ginger, and the jig bite seemed to be heating up by the time we left. Tried bass fishing in Bull Creek a couple times but I still haven't figured out the bass fishing on Taney, I'll keep trying. Going way back into the back of Bull Creek was pretty cool though, extremely clear water and saw lots of fish including what I think was the biggest carp I've ever laid eyes on.
  14. Duck Harbor is great, right on the water. If they're booked or if you want a bigger cabin or just a motel room try Rockaway Inn. They're a block up the hill but they have a deal with Duck Harbor where their guests get one of Duck Harbor's boat stalls free, and if you stay at Duck Harbor you can use Rockaway Inn's pool. We've stayed at both places and they're both well run by very nice people.
  15. Has anyone tried to put in at the Rockaway Beach boat ramp this week? Any reports on the condition of the lake and the docks in the area would be greatly appreciated, hoping to come down next week. Thanks.
