I went this morning for 2 and 1/2 hours and caught 26. Rainbows, cuts, and Brook. No browns. Used my old standby. Fished just upstream of the handicap ramp. It looks like the river got quite a flushing. Everything has changed and a lot of the gravel is gone from the main part of the river. A lot of hard bedpan rock is now exposed. Didn't see any vegetation from the catch and release sign down to the handicap ramp. It looks like there is a deep channel on the far side of the river but I did not do to much exporing as I did not have my wading staff. One thing is sure it certainly isn't the same river and anyone going there to fish now should use extreme caution and a wading staff as there are quite a few unusual drop offs.

1.11 inches at Gassville on the river. White is clear.

The corps opened the flood gates on Bull Shoals again at 1200 today the 24th. They opened with 4 inches and 5600+ CFS and one hour later opened them an additional 5 inches for a flow of 13,000 CFS. Total flow of flood gates and generators of 34,000+ CFS or the equivilant of 13 generators.

We had 1.49 inches of rain this afternoon in about 2 hours at my place on the White River in Gassville, AR. The White is running fast and muddy.

Thanks John. That was what I was thinking and I wanted your opinion on it. I have been putting in a garden and that has taken up most of my time. I hope to get done with all this work at home and get back on the river soon.

John, " I think a lot of the change is for the better." How about a little essay on what your perceptions are about the change and why you think it is for the better. Any insight will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It appears that there plan is no plan. They can only react, preventive measures is not in their vocabulary.
-
The corps has a plan that they are following. They made the plan back in 92. They have never experienced what is happening now (there reason for what they are doing). Having said that I think there plan is that they have no plan. It is totally unbelievabe to me that they are not using a little common sense in their releases. Bull Shoals has 17 flood gates open 4 inches (5600 cfs) and the lake is up to 594.81 (top of flood pool is 595)and still rising. Instead of releasing, lets say 10000 cfs instead of 5000, there would still be less flooding than what is perhaps to come if they wait until it is to high and then release 30-60,000 cfs flooding more people that haven't been flooded as of yet. I would think they had learned their lesson at Beaver, Table Rock, and Norfork by waiting so long. The corps says that they are using Newport as their point for regulation. I really don't think that the thousands of people that have been flooded by the corps actions over the last week or so could care less if the farm fields at Newport area have 5 inches of water on them or 5 feet on them. Sorry for the tirade I am just venting.

I personally want to thank everyone who has been posting information about releases, flows, water heights etc. This forum has been outstanding in putting out information that we can not get through the regular media. Keep the posts coming and God bless each and everyone of you for taking the time to keep us informed of what is happening. I for one have relied on this board more than the local paper and radio in making decisions about preparation. Thanks everyone.

Gates are open and running additional 5600cfs. Total output equals 10 generators. I agree with John, cancel. John I hope this will not effect you. It will get me some in the lower yard, but I am ready even for higher water.
-
As of right now it appears there will be equivilant of 9 generators. That will be some high water.

Phil, After coming home to trees down, the roof half gone, windows blown out and water damage from hurricanes twice in 2 months to the day, I remember standing with my wife looking at the work facing us again (8 times in 22 years) and her saying "this to shall pass". I stood there and thought of our friends who came home to nothing after the second one and her and her husband saying "well I guess we start all over again". Sometimes we just have to be thankful we have our loved ones. God be with you.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said it will open all the Norfork Dam floodgates 2 feet each at 7:30 a.m. today, said Corps lake manager Jon Hiser. The floodgates first opened at 4 a.m. and opened one foot each at 6 a.m., the Corps reported. The 12 floodgates will release water at 30,000 cubic feet per second, Hiser said. With the generators running, the amount of water released will be equivalent to 11 to 12 generators, he said. At 5 a.m., Norfork Lake was at 580.83 feet and Bull Shoals Lake was at 688.76 feet, according to Corps information

As of 01:15 10Apr08 we have had 0.94 inches of rain at the White in Gassville. My weather station is saying that it is raining cats and dogs. At 01:00 we had 0.91 inches so it is raining pretty heavy and by the looks of the NWS radar most of the heavy stuff is to the west and north of me. It's looking bad folks!

John you will be happy to know I have actually tied up some zebras in different colors and some Y2Ks. I am really going to try and fish with them. It will be hard to break away from Don's bug. Terry I really do fish with just one fly pattern, different sizes but the same pattern. Have fished it all over the United States and have caught trout with everywhere I have fished it.
-
I add my prayers to all the others and may God in his infinite wisdom watch over each and everyone of you.
-
They are 3/10ths of foot from the flood level at Norfork and haven't opened the flood gates yet.
-
No sir I am not a guide. I strongly recommend John. He is not only a great guide but a real gentleman, even though he tells me I only know how to tie one fly.

I am a Southerner (anyone north of I10 is a Northerner) and moved to Mountain Home 5 years ago. Having said that they are not over loaded with southern hospitality locally so don't expect that. One reason and one reason only is why I moved here: trout fishing. Taxes are not to bad if you do not live in Mountain Home. Lakeview, Bull Shoals, Cotter, Flippin, and Baxter county are all good places to live. Excellent hospital and reasonable housing if you do not want on the water at Bull Shoals, Norfork, or the White. No shopping locally other than wally world. Springfield is about 2h 15min away and has all the shopping you need. No national chain resturants but there are 3 or 4 good local ones. My son and his wife (the doctor) asked "why did you move to Arkansas of all places?". They changed their mind when they came to visit. There are two real good reasons for moving here, one is John Berry and the other is myself, you can't meet nicer people. We will certainly extend a hand and welcome you.

Gary runs a taxi service out of the flyshop. He will drop you off and pick you up before the water comes up. He used to charge $10 a head but it might be more now. It is a good deal unless you can swim well.

There is an excellent public ramp that the AGFC built at Rim Shoals. Easy to launch and retrieve and plenty of parking. Turn off 62 in Gassville at Red Bud Road, go to the stop sign and turn left on Buford. Follow it to you see the sign for Rim Shoals access and make a right. Immediately after crossing the railroad at the bottom of the hill you make a right and you are at the parking lot. If you want to wade turn left after you cross the RR and follow it to the end of the road. There is parking there and you have a 2 minute walk to the shoals.

John, Check out my latest post. I caught this right beside my ramp.
