Texan Fisherman

It was just fine and I had no problems at all driving my GF's Honda Accord. In fact, it seemed like everything was just fine. Even the banks weren't that muddy when I had to get out of the water and hike.

Well, I don't know if it really belongs in this forum, but I'll post my report anyway. I fished on Saturday, starting at the end of the park at 6:30 and finishing a little below Tan Vat at 5:30 (with a 2 hour break for lunch and a nap ). I nabbed about 30 fish. All were Rainbows except for one tiny little 9 inch brown. I landed 2 rainbows that went about 16 inches and the rest were standard 10-13 inchers. Fishing was great in the morning in the rain but slowed as the day went on. I had a TON of short strikes that I just chalked up to me being a crappy fisherman, but I talked to another fly fisher at Tan Vat and he mentioned the short strikes as well. I saw that others are talking about it on the forums too, so I guess I'm not as bad as I thought. Fishing in the morning during the rain was excellent and I had a hit on almost every other cast/drift. I just used a #10 bead head olive mohair leech all day with some split shot. I used a dead drift and started twitching as the line swung out on the current.

I can't comment on the changing stream since this was my first time fishing the river.

Oh no. Well, it looks like I'll be hiking on down the river then. Actually, on second thought, I doubt there will be many kids in the flies only section. Thanks for the help guys. I'll start tying tonight.

Hello, First time poster here. I'll be visiting the trout park for the second time. The first time (last summer) I just used my spinning outfit and some salmon eggs and we caught a ton of 10 inchers. Anyhow, I'm not in a rush this time and I'll be fishing by myself so I brought along my fly gear. I haven't decided if I want to do the fly area at the park of if I want to hike down to the blue ribbon water. What do you recommend? Also, I need to tie up some flies. So, assuming the water goes down a bit (and it looks like it will according to the forecast), what fly patterns should I use at this time of year? It's probably still a bit cool for terrestrial patterns, right? I've done some research and it looks like this is what I'll go with (along with my boxes full of other random flies): Mohair Leech (Size 10, Olive) Crackleback (Size 16, Sulphur or PMD) Elk Hair Caddis (Size 18) Bead Head Wooly Buggers (Size 8, Black, Olive, and Brown) Bead Head Hare’s Ear Nymph (Size 16) Weighted Pheasant Tails (Size 16) Prince Nymphs (Size 16) Glo Bugs (size ????) Scuds (size ????, gray, flashback) Trico patterns (size 20-24) Griffiths Gnats (size 22) Adams Do you guys think I'm missing anything? Thank you in advance!
