Fishing Report From 12/3/2011

I haven't got to go yet but that release schedule is definitely screwing up the fishing. Thanks for the report. -
Release Schedule Says "20" All Day Sunday

Based on the recent numbers I would say probably no. I look at the stream gauge to see what the CFS is to make my determinations. -
Release Schedule Says "20" All Day Sunday

That depends on what whole is. I've waded when there was a "half" generation. The half I waded in was still kind of strong in places and I chose my pathes carefully. Get a wading staff. Seems like a gamble looking at the schedule and the actual generations that have happened. I've had good luck and bad luck with water running. I've caught more fish on LIR when there was no generation. -
New Info Regarding The Lower Illinois
JCWolfe replied to DaddyO's topic in Upper and Lower Illinois River (OK)
Do you know at what level the lake is when they will stop running water? I know Jim said at 632 they would let out water. -
If you can, save some money for a better pair. I had a pair of redheads from bass pro that started falling apart within a year. My Simms are almost 2 years old now and the only thing I have done is put new shoe strings on them.
-
The two were found down river from the old park dam. We found a smaller one up river. Rob Woodruff said that they usually can only be found in a couple of spots.
-
I have simms pant waders and G4Z simms waders. Definitely plenty of layers at the knee area with the simms full waders.
-
Lower Mountain Fork below Broken Bow. Good mixture. Certain places had more of one certain thing than others.
-
Some of the stuff we found. Lot of variety. I didn't want to post the full size pictures but they're scuds, shrimp and sowbugs in that mix as well.

Any Reports From The Weekend?
JCWolfe replied to DaddyO's topic in Upper and Lower Illinois River (OK)
Now that I'm back from WV I'll be headed that way soon. Now that we got fish again and some water hopefully the C.O.E. doesn't keep screwing the fishing up with "unscheduled releases". I'm guessing you caught nothing of size since you didn't mention it. -

Is the water still dirty looking or has it improved? -
New Info Regarding The Lower Illinois

Here it is, what you were hoping to read right from the horses mouth! Lake hit 632!! We are resuming stocking this week with two stockings. On the 16th and the 18th and then back to our schedule on the 30th. Please remember that the same scenario with no water will happen again and we need your continued support to reach a long term permanent solution. Thanks for your help. Jim Burroughs E.C. We certainly have the attention of the coe and swpa as well as some of our elected officials. We haven't had this at this level maybe ever. That's progress but it's yet to see if it's meaningful progress or not. Progress towards a permanent solution is what I'm hoping for. I think in the short term we will be stocking again before long. I'm asking everyone to please remember that when we do that the problem still exists and we will no doubt be right where we are now but most likely much earlier in the year than when it all happened this year. Flood releases into the summer saved some of "our" water. Please don't stop your support and your calls and letters to those that can solve the problem. We need only .3 feet more in the reservoir to get us back to our water allotment. I hope we make it very soon. All options for us are on the table. We are continuing to discuss what are the best ones for all concerned including the fish. Sorry I didn't get back to you before. Thanks for your continued support. > Jim Burroughs. I'm just curious if there can be winter stocking even with no water agreement. D.O. level are up in the good range now. The only place I can think of that fish could get stranded is right by the parking lot going to the dam. I know a permanent agreement needs to be put in place for water flow when there is no generation for year around trout stocking, so my question is, can trout be stocked during the winter months like many other places in Oklahoma? I hope this is an option for now. > >>> > >>> Thank you for your attention > >>> James C. Wolfe -
New Info Regarding The Lower Illinois
JCWolfe replied to DaddyO's topic in Upper and Lower Illinois River (OK)
I'm glad you posted this, I had emailed Jim and asked him the very same questions you asked. He thought he had replied to me but it was you he replied to. I told him you had posted it on ozarkanglers and answered my questions. -
I actually use fluoresent pink and cerise color on that dirty LIR. They are so close to being the same. I wish Arkansas fishing wasn't so far away, what little I did on the Norfolk was great. No generation though. Headed to LMF this weekend.

Glad you had a good trip, too bad about the Norfolk. That pink chenille wrapped jigs sounds familiar to me, I know a guy who uses something like that on the LIR. Did you tie your own miracle fly or just buy some?

Anyone Seen The River Lately?
JCWolfe replied to JCWolfe's topic in Upper and Lower Illinois River (OK)
I'm with you on the availability of the LIR. I would go maybe 2 or 3 times a month. Now, maybe 1 time a month. 10/14 was my last time out to LMF. -

Wildlife department fishing report said the water was still murky, fishing fair. I haven't seen anything about stocking again but do know the dissolved oxygen levels are up, been in the 6 range some. Hopefully with the d.o. levels up they will start stocking again. -

I'm going to LMF on the 12th and 13th, taking three rivers fly shop entymology class. There will be time to fish so hopefully even though it is a weekend it won't be too crowded. I have good basic knowledge of aquatic insect but was hoping to gain something from people who fish there all the time. -
Just curious if the water looks better. Dissolved oxygen levels are better since the fish kill. Seeing some readings in the 5 range but mostly 4's the last couple of days which is better than the 1's and 2's when fish died.

The one place I fish offers an entomology class so I decided to take it. They offer it twice a year and I missed the spring class but got in on the fall class. There will be 4 hours of class time on saturday, which means I can fish before and after, and on sunday an actual field trip to the river with bug collecting and fly selection will be discussed. Sure I could do some of this on my own and save money but for no more than the class costs, to me it is worth it for what I will gain from someone who makes a living guiding on these waters. I don't get to fish this area but maybe every couple months so any knowledge I gain will help me fish that place better.

The day I caught that 3 lb. fish I also caught a 4 lb fish below the lower bridge that is now washed out. 4 other fish were 2 lb trout as well. That was in the days before I fly fished and was using powerbait. There were a lot of fish in spillway that particular trip a few years back. I've got to where I take the spinning gear with crankbaits if I'm not doing good on the fly rod I break it out. I've not learned enough to be really good on the LMF consistently. Work might be slow later this week so I'm debating going down to LMF.
-
Sucks when you drive down there and it's crowded, I try and go during the week if possible. Got a 3 lb. Rainbow out of the same hole you got your 6. Ever checked out beaversbendflyshop.com? There is a discussion board there I look at for fishing reports. Glad you got out, it's been almost a month for me.

My home water was the Lower Illinois because it is the closest, but that place has been ruined now. As for my favorite tailwaters, probably the White and Norfolk. I've never fished Taney yet. My overall favorite is the Elk river in West Virginia.
