  1. I have not fished Lake McConaughy for a few years. However, the reports are that every lake in Nebraska is still very low on water. We are in about a 10 year drought that I am not sure will ever correct itself. With all the irrigating we do in Nebraska and $3.00/corn making more farmers turn to irrigation, I think our water woes could last a long, long time. However, our tourism in Nebraska, frankly, stinks but don't let me discourage you from coming here and giving us a few tourism tax dollars.
  2. Thanks again Bill. Sorry, one more rookie question---What's a sammy?
  3. I am pretty familiar with the Long Creek arm but once I get out of there I am lost. Where is Beavertown and Devils Dive Resort? I am heading down on Tuesday. We will fish from daylight to dark Wed-Sat. We have to get out of Dodge and get home for Mother's Day on Sunday. An 8 hour drive to Hastings, Nebraska. I am going out of our dock in little Beardsley and I will not venture much past the Indian Point area as that is as far as my 30 year experience goes. I think I am going to be using centipedes, fish doctors, grubs, pbj jewel jigs, chug bugs, jointed red fins/jointed thunder sticks(replaced for a premium on eBay), spooks, trick worms, chompers ultra tubes, baby brush hogs. Do you think I have it all covered? I am a bass pro poster boy. What type of shad rap do you troll for whites? I love to catch whites! And I will troll. What is the best lure for surfacing whites? I am thinking about buying some of those kastmater spoons. Do they do well with the whties? I have 4 days in May with the boys and 2 weeks in July to fish with the family. I try to make the best of it. What a great web site. Thank you Bill and Lilley. I love to waste time at work and fantasize about being on the Rock. I know the dam area real well and I know exactly where Lilley was fishing Wednesday morning. Thanks for the work day daydream.
  4. I hear you! I have been fishing the long creek arm for 30+ years out of Twin Island estates (Beardsley cove). My Dad has had friends living at Twin Island for over 30 years and we always used to go visit them and I would fish daylight to dark. My Dad retired there about 15 years ago. Now that you have Big Cedar, the big state park ramp and docks galore, Chateau and Emerald Pointe (where they stack the boats with forklifts in that big barn) there are boats everywhere!! There is so much darn boat traffic it is just almost no fun. I take my family down for 2 weeks the end of July every year. You can usually crawler fish the main lake spots until about an hour after the sun comes up but after that forget it. I have a 19 foot Nitro and I remember the day a skier came right by my bow while I was crawler fishing the community hole at Clevenger and the waves came up over my bow and soaked my boat. Boy what a way to ruin a beautiful quiet July morning on the rock. I remember one time a few years ago I was out with Tim Sainato fishing a main lake crawler hole out in front of big cedar when a boat pulled right in on us. I will never forget Tim looking at the guy and saying: "Big lake isn't it?" The guy was too dumb to even know Tim was being sarcastic. I really hope people at least try to be a little more courteous when I come down in May and July. I only get to fish the lake about 2 1/2 weeks a year now and I have really noticed, each year, that the boats just keep multiplying. Come on there are lots of places to fish. Don't crowd people or rock them out of the water. Find another spot and give the guys some room.
