That's a great looking fly!
-
I'll go ahead and throw him on the list Brian. I really do enjoy swaps and like to see the variety you can get from them. I finished up two in the last month for another site and have gotten some seriously awesome flies out of the deal.
-
This is starting to shape up to be a pretty good swap, a few more people and this will be awesome!
-
this. was. epic!
-
Mike, Good to have you join. Hopefully as more people join this, even more will join. For now plan on tying the same number of flies as people who are signed up for this. That way each person will get one of each of everyone elses flies.
-
I gotta second what Brian said. High sticking has been the only way for me to consistently catch fish on a nymph. I would MUCH rather fish a small soft hackle, and not have to have a perfect presentation so that it would be ok if it swings a little bit. I've just never mastered nymphing because time and time again I go back to streamers. Some of my best fish "nymphing" though have come on small streamers that I drifted instead of swung or stripped.

Fairly new tier or not it's a GREAT way to perfect a pattern. Let's face it after you've tied 15 of any given pattern they are going to look pretty good. They are also a lot of fun to see how different people tie different flies, and it's a great way to add some variety to your boxes.
-
Agreed, I think we could put it a bit later than the 25th, if only because two flies a day would get them done in plenty of time if they started on August first, which is kind of what I was thinking. Spread the word.
-
OK, we'll call it on. I can host and have no qualms with it. 16 tiers max and Like Brian said lets call it an August 15th date. When you have your flies done PM me and I'll send you my address. You can either include a few dollars for an extra envelope and postage or go ahead and fold up a self addressed envelope in your package. Please toe-tag all of your flies with your user name so that we know what comes from who. I don't have a suitable camera so if someone would be willing to take a pic of all of the flies when they get them it would be greatly appreciated. Some food for thought. Even if these flies are big and bulky that doesn't mean they will take a long time to tie. Tie them in steps.. i.e. do all of the backs and then all of the fronts and it tends to go pretty fast. I'll want this to go smooth for everyone, which means no late flies please. When you say that you will tie, start them, don't push them back to the last moment because that makes it less enjoyable for everyone else and I will do my VERY best to get the flies out ASAP. To keep from flies being in too late i'd be game for setting a "you can't join this swap after "this" date" so that we don't have someone joining last second and then everyone having to wait longer for their flies. I know there are a lot of talented ties on this board and let's see some of that work. It should be fun and for those who have never participated in a swap feel free to join in and it's a great way to add a wide variety to flies to your boxes. 1. Lancer09 - Done 2. Brian Shaffer 3. OH come on guys, lets do this. It will be ever so fun.

I on the other hand do not prefer to palmer the schlappen along the shank. I like to do it just at the front like that but if you do this it needs to be a big webby one to flow back. Also, I would find a body material, that takes up a bit more space, I really like UV dyed polar chenillie or some sort of cactus chenille.

I'd jump in on this, when you thinking they be due? I'll probably go with something articulated EDIT: sorry, just saw the date, I was driving earlier when I posted that. I missed the brown run for the most part last year and definitely want to hit it a lot harder this year. I've hit taney a lot and have YET to catch a brown. starting to get a bit infuriating. I'm leaning towards a circus peanut, in white probably. I caught a couple good rainbows a few weeks ago at night. I've been in quite a few swaps on another forum so I know how the gig works. Sorry just saw this too, I'll also head up the swap if no one else wants to to make this thing happen but would prefer not to.. but will if absolutely necessary, and i think twelve tiers would probably be more suitable because these will be big flies, but I have no problem with more.

Fish it in the day before you do at dark. Any small streamers really will work. Woolybuggers, leeches etc. I like to swing 'em. Some like to strip 'em. I've also caught a lot of fish Highsticking the outlets. Make sure you have a headlamp, and be ready for some smashing hits.

Yes, if you hear that siren go off, or notice the water level go up, HAUL it on out of there. When they start pushing water through it gets real dangerous real fast. If they forget the horn and teh water is going off, and you'd have to cross deep water to get the parking lot, just get to the other side and wait it out. I know it sucks but it's a lot safer. Check the thread down in the white river section for tips and staying safe with the generation. Scuds and midges are the ticket if you'll be fishing during the day time.

I think getting rid of the 18" keep limit should be done away with, but then again I don't think that many people who keep those, probably wouldn't keep smaller fish any way, and are probably bait fishing as well. If there could be more enforcement regarding that, plus some good higher water for a while I think the creek would support some AMAZING fishing. I know me and Andrew 324 fished awhile ago and didn't hardly see any fish in the lower section whatsoever.

Shoot, a hundred fish day for me isn't just a good day, its the day of a lifetime! But I think your right I think people expect too much out of streamer sometimes and should think of it more like musky fishing and count follows as successess. I know i'll be watching a streamer video from you!
-
I really don't think it's that hard, I know my fiances family puts all of their home videos from a flip cam onto HD DVD's and the video is awesome, even on a big screen. Get a fancy little sticker to throw on the top and I think you'd be all set. You're putting a lot of work into these videos and we are all getting something out of it for sure. You could even include some features on a DVD that you dont get with the youtube videos, More underwater footage, and some footage about how you go about fishing said flies from either boats or wade fishing. I'd like to see you get a little something back from the idea and think that it would be pretty cool, and could potentially reach even more people with the dvd's.
-
Again Brian, THese video series are awesome. Have you thought about putting together the Galloup/Schmidt series of videos and putting them all together on DVD? I think it would be pretty cool, I know if there were somewhere in the ball park of 15-20$ I would buy one.
-
These videos are the definition of awesome. Now another pattern that I have to add to my boxes. You think laser dub for the head would work similar to the wool?
-
No, I think they were just small ones pulling at the back tail of the fly. They weren't hitting it hard like the big ones were and when i went to set the hook it just sort of pulled out. I think they were little guys, but they were still hitting it.
-
Both fish were hooked on the front hook of the peanut which was a 2 B10S and the back hook was a 4 B10S.

The tailwater night fishing has resumed! Last night me and a good buddy hit it up for the first time since October and man was it fun. We got down to the water around eight fifteen and were able to finish the last twenty minutes of the midge hatch, we both had a lot of missed hook ups. I'll blame it on the rust and wasn't able to get one to hand before it got dark. We moved up to a different run and I started nymphing to pick up my first fish and atleast got some trout stink on my hands before we made a trip up to the gas station for a few adult beverages. I stuck one and caught my first trout twenty incher on my new TFO rod. It was a good fish and fought for a good three or four minutes. My buddy picked one up right before I did on a black/red mohair leech. We both missed a lot of fish before we were able to get one to hand. Drove up to the gas station and picked up a couple airline bottles of stuff to mix when we got back, and we finished those real quick before we started fishing again. Ended up meeting with a couple guys my buddy knows and one of their dads and we all started fishing the same area that we couldn't catch a fish in earlier. The five of us ended up sticking somewhere around 50 fish between everyone. I finished with a count of 16 and my buddy caught 24. After my fourteenth fish I switched over from the mohair leeches and pine squirrel leeches we were fishing to a big ol white circus peanut. First Cast, BAM! a rock. i basicly walked across the entire run to get the fly back and finall got another cast in. BAM! Ok now this is a good fish that I just stuck, litterally where I walked to free my fly. He takes the little bit of slack line in my hand and a few feet of line off the reel and just comes loose. I start stripping in and all of the sudden he was still on! I start stripping him in and he gets himself back on the real. Finally I bring him to hand and this was a FAT 22" male bow that had the beginnings of a hook jaw going on. Very next cast i got hooked into another really fat 19" female that had to be put on the reel too. After that I retired the fly and had a few hits on a white SDungeon but I didn't catch any more. Overall it was an awesome night and I think I may be going agian tonight.

Caught a 22" male rainbow and a 19" female bow tonight on a white circus peanut. This shizz works Yo. I missed a couple fish on the Mufasa, and had two or three pop off fishing a white circus Peanut.

Do you fish the Chubby Muffin Much, I know it's an awesome fly, and I fish it for bass but haven't had a whole lot of luck with trout on it. Maybe I just haven't given it enough shots (only one or two) on the other hand I LOVE bucktail for clousers. I think when you tie them to thick is when they just don't get any movement out of the bucktail, but when tied sparser the flaring and compressing bucktail does is awesome on a clouser. For my clousers I hardly use any hair at all, just enough to have something on the hook and have had more luck, the sparser that i tie them. To this Post. I tied a DD last night. it's huge, do you usually fish them in that white/pink/blue? imitates a baby rainbow is what it looks to me, and it looks like it would kill on some big stripers.

At night. It's been way too long and i have a bunch of flies that need to be torn up. I just got a new rod and i think it will be perfect for some night time swinging. Ten foot six weight white river classic rod... And for twenty five dollars to boot!
